The thought that I had lost you—perhaps forever—was an awful blow." He turned back to meet her periwinkle gaze. "I wish for you to know me as well and yet…I am terrified that you will not at all enjoy what you will find. I am—tainted." He stumbled over the last word, a wealth of meaning pressing against it, the demons in his eyes bright.
