Elaine studied him from over her book. He had been skipping meals and his cheeks looked slightly hollow. The dark smudges under his eyes had darkened on his already pale skin. Being re-inducted into the magical world was not agreeing with him. She knew that there were lives hanging in the balance but there was a selfish part of her that wanted him to forget it all and leave these pressing memories and obligations behind.
