The Monster

Chapter 9: Blood In the Alley

"Why's he lookin' so large?" Sid, the largest and dumbest Purple Dragon scratched his head.

"That doesn't matter, the scrawny one was always the weakest in battle! We can easily take him to the cleaners..." Fong explained.

"Yeah because the cleaners is only a block away...I could even get there easily..."

"Shut up, Sid." Tsoi cracked.

The Purple Dragons held their weapons in front of them and in the dim light of the darkened alley, began to crowd Monstertello up against Murakami's building. The beast was poised on all fours, his fangs bared and tail slowly swishing, like an angered cat preparing to maul it's attacker. The scary part was, Don was actually considering the mauling part of all his cat act. He didn't want April to walk out and ask questions, or get hurt for that matter, so he had to end this quickly, silently, and then find a way to dispose of the bodies and blood because there would be both soon enough.

"I'm not jokin' Fong, he's larger and more scary than I remember..." The meatiest member said as he held out his fists.

"Sid, shut up!" The leader hissed.

"Don't provoke it to attack, we've got it right where we want it anyway."

"I hate to agree with the blockhead, but the turtle's got claws. Do turtles usually have claws?" Tsoi asked.

"Does he look like a normal turtle to you?" Fong responded matter-of-factly.

The bickering trio was interrupted by a low rumbling, almost like the sound of a washing machine. Red eyes pierced the dominating darkness and Donatello continued to try any tactic of self defense that didn't involve turning the three into bandit-kabobs. April would most surely be done soon and he knew that the Dragons didn't stand a chance, but he wanted the girl to trust him and going berserk was the last way to gain it. A low growl was all that passed his lips.

"He's never growled like that before, boss..." Sid was almost shaking now and it made the beast internally chuckle.

"Just take him out, Tsoi. Sid's being a crybaby." Fong huffed.

With a sledgehammer raised over his head, the mustached member of the gang charged towards the beast who only darted out of the way to avoid the impending pain. Tsoi dug his heels into the ground but it wasn't enough for him to not hit the hard wall of the restaurant but it also wasn't enough to make him give up so he charged at Donatello again. Glancing at the back door, the monster decided that the quickest way to end the the fight was taking control. As the Purple Dragon ran towards him, Donnie lunged forwards right at him and tackled him to the ground. Tsoi screamed out when his shoulders were slammed into the hard ground below by giant claws. The beast snarled and spit in his face, his tail flicking another member that must've been Sid into the rungs of a fire escape behind him.

"FONG!" Both mangled members of the gang screamed for their leader.

Monstertello roared and grabbed Tsoi by the face, wrapping his spearlike claws around his face and lifting him up into the air, now fully enraged.

"HOW DOES IT FEEL?!" The creature screeched with a voice like pure venom. This sound mixed with Tsoi's petrifying screams struck fear into the heart of Fong and probably many others in the area so the leader of the gang decided to call a retreat. For himself.

"WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING?!" Monstertello roared again and smacked Fong clear in the head with Tsoi as his weapon. They were both knocked unconscious and Sid, seeing this from the fire escape, bent down and acted dead to save his own life.

Quickly, before April could run out of the shop, Donatello took the bodies of his presumingly dead victims and threw them up on top of the nearest roof, one by one.

As soon as three thumps had sounded from up above, Don crouched down in front of the back door with wide, puppy dog eyes and his tail wagging innocently. He even managed to force a fanged smile, and just in time as well. The door flung open and April ran out, nearly tripping over the mutant in front of her.

"What in shell were you doing back here?! I had to rush poor Murakami and he nearly cut himself!"

"What do you mean? I've been sitting here the entire time waiting for your return. Just like I said I would, dearest."

April crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes slightly. She didn't like the creepy tone that the monster was using and she could've sworn that she heard him roaring and men screaming. Was it her imagination? Was she finally going crazy? She had only lived with the monster for about a day and she was already going crazy. Whatever he was doing, he seemed so innocent and rather cute now. The girl clenched her takeout in one fist as she looked around the alley for any body parts or weapons. As she walked, a strong and familiar scent filled her nose, and it wasn't the Pizza Gyoza that she held tightly in her bag. Two bloody splatters on the ground, one smaller in the middle of the alley and a larger puddle towards the exit.

"What did you do?" April commanded as she turned around to face her capturer.

"Exterminated some pests..." Don chuckled in his sly little way.

"Ha. Your very funny." The girl said with a voice like stone. "Now who did you injure?"

"It doesn't matter, you got your food didn't you? I could've had you living off of grime I scraped from the floors of the sewer passages but no, I was nice enough to bring you up for a little take out." Monstertello began to slowly walk towards her.

"Back off, Donnie." She spat.

April watched as the monster's muscles clenched and a small roar escaped his lips but still he kept his anger with the Purple Dragons. She would never trust him if her hurt her again.

"Let's just go home..." He breathed heavily as it was the only way to halt himself from lashing out at his captive verbally.

April opened her mouth to protest but something dropping on to her head and rolling down her forehead, then nose, and then onto her lips stopped her. That intoxicating smell once again plagued both of them as the girl stood in horror, trying to look at the fresh blood on her mouth. Donnie shrunk back slightly as April looked up only to be blinded by another falling drop that hit her in the eye.

"Ow! That burns!" She hissed, stepping aside out of the line of fire. "Where is it even coming from?!"

Donatello looked down at the ground in halfhearted shame. The blue eyed beauty who could only clearly see out of her left eye looked up to see the bloody head of Tsoi dangling from the top of the building, slowly letting it's droplets rain down on her.

"DONATELLO!" She screamed.

Instead of shrinking back like before, his monster instincts got the best of him and he lunged for the girl. She screamed as she was thrown over his shoulder like a sack and he started to run for the nearest manhole. April held her food close to her chest and used her watering eyes to clean out the blood as they ran into the sewers and threw it's winding labyrinth.

"DONATELLO!"

Four pairs of eyes flew right open at the sound of the scream. It was clearly April and the boys knew that, but what was happening to her was a different story.

Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Casey had all decided to have a quick rest on a rooftop and the piercing cry had snapped their not-so peaceful dreams in half.

"That was definitely April." Casey assured, unsheathing his bat.

"Move out, men!" Leo ordered and the boys began running to where they had heard the scream.

"It sounded at least five blocks away! April's got quite a shriek!" Raph half-joked.

"Guys! We're coming up to Murakami San's!" Mikey pointed out.

The four members of the group silently prayed that Donnie hadn't hurt poor, defenseless Murakami or April. Pushing along their adrenaline was the fact that they may have located April and Donnie and it had only been a it is that had happened with the beast, it wasn't good and they had to try and prepare themselves or the worst.

"Okay I think we made- AUUUGH!"

"LEO!" Raph cried as he looked over the side of the building into a dark alley behind Murakami's shop.

The leader of the team, while looking at the rest of his group, had tripped over something large and heavy causing him to spin right off the edge of the building and go tumbling. Leo hit the ground and a large crack was heard, causing his brothers and Casey to flinch. The other three jumped down and saw the turtle boy laying there on the ground and a body besides him.

"Is that...Fong?!" Casey exclaimed.

"His head! It's all split open!" Mikey squealed as he hid behind Raph.

"Guys..." Leonardo mumbled as he sat up. "What happened?"

"You tripped over a body." Raphael explained.

"What?! A body?!" The blue masked turtle jumped up in disgust.

"The back of his head is cracked and mangled...April and Donnie are nowhere to be seen but there are bloodstains scattered around." Casey surveyed the area.

"I guess Sid and Tsoi are up there." Leo rubbed his temple.

"They are, the one with the mustache is even worse looking than Fong." Raph sighed.

"Should we check on Mr. M?" Mikey waved a thumb over at the shop. He was met by silence, nobody wanted to be the one to discover the body of the gentle old man.

"C'mon dudes." Michelangelo frowned as he pushed the back door open, the boys trailing behind.

They walked through the dark storage room and saw a light peeking through the door to the kitchen. Leo slid through first and then waved for his team to follow. The lights were on, pots were bubbling with water, and a dinky little radio crackled with piano music in the corner, but Murakami San was nowhere to be found. The lights were noticeably dimmed in the dining room, candles were placed on each individual eating place and burned gracefully, and sitting in the corner with his head dangling in his hands was none other than the owner of the store.

"Murakami San!" Mikey cried as he ran over and pulled the man into a tight embrace, surprising him, but making him smile as well.

"Hello Michelangelo, and the rest of you boys." He replied weakly.

"What's wrong?" Casey asked, taking a seat next to the elder.

"April O'Neil came in a few minuets ago..."

"What happened to her?!" They all said simultaneously.

"She ordered Pizza Gyoza and I presumed that it was for you boys, as usual, but I knew there was a layer of panic in her voice. She was tense and rather impatient, asking me every five seconds when the meal would be finished, but it all got serious when I heard the noises from the back."

The four boys listened intently, Mikey occasionally took some salt from a nearby shaker to suck on as he took in all the information.

"The sounds, they were horrible. Roars, screams, cracks and splatters of all kinda and as they continued, Ms. O'Neil only got more jumpy until she even hollered a bit. I nearly cut my finger clean off with all the pressure, and she wouldn't tell me anything about her situation whatsoever. As soon as the food was finished, she snagged it and ran off, yelling goodbye from the storage room. Then I heard a shriek of "Donatello!" and got so horribly confused..."

"It's okay..." Leo comforted the man with a pat on the back. "It's a very long story with many questions that we still don't know the answer to."

"Where is Donatello?" Murakami asked.

"Well he was just in your alley...we've been chasing him all day." Raphael muttered.

"What do you mean?"

"Donnie was turned into a mutant beast, a monster, and he kidnapped April. She's injured physically and he's injured mentally, and we have to get her back and him under control before anyone else dies." Leonardo felt a lump pop up in his throat throughout his explanation.

"He was that dude who rampaged the city today." Michelangelo added.

"This is terrible...if April was free enough to come into the shop why didn't she just flee from him?" The older man asked.

"She promised him that she would stay with him...until he was better...if he got better." Casey looked at the ground as he spoke.

"What are boys going to do? Do you have an antidote?" Murakami inquired.

"We...don't know. I just assumed that when we found him...I don't know..." Leo stuttered, sitting down, collapsing in sadness and frustration.

Mikey and Raph sat down at the table as well, the darkness swallowed every male in the room up, until blinding pink lights shattered the quiet atmosphere.

"Kraang has found the ones known as the turtles."
