CHAPTER 27: THE OPERATION
Sonic and the rest of his team ended up on the hill near the Egg Citadel. They watch as loads of Motobugs were sent out of a hatch at the bottom of the building.
"Wow, that's a lot of Badniks." said Sonic.
"I counted Twenty." said Blaze.
Just then, a Badnik flew over their heads, and must have recognized them, because it turned around and went towards them. It stopped just a few meters away.
It was a Dragonfly Badnik. Sonic vaguely remembers it from Mushroom Hill on his own world.
"That's one big dragonfly." said Applejack.
"I don't really like insects that much..." said Fluttershy wearily.
"Humph. What is this abomination?" said Shadow, who then leaped up and shot towards it. He spindashed into it's head, blowing it up.
"Now let's get moving." said Blaze.
"Right" joined in Sonic.
Sonic ran straight towards the Egg-Citadel and, as before, ran up the wall. He had to dodge a few Buzz Bombers on the way up.
Back on the ground, Shadow and the rest went towards one of the hangers to see if anything was inside. Some Motobugs saw Shadow, and went for him. But Shadow spindashed right through them.
"Let's clean up Sonic's mess." said Shadow.
Meanwhile, back up on top, Sonic burst through the other eye of the Egg-Citadel. He had to go up. That's where the control room would be. He saw a few Egg-pawns and decided to follow them. They went round a corner and Sonic ran after them and stopped. He saw an elevator and some stairs. He was the fastest thing alive. He could beat the robots.
When the robots went in the elevator, Sonic rushed up the stairs, flight after flight, and when he reached the final one, he saw a door labeled 'CONTROL ROOM'. He spindashed through the door and stopped to see Rainbow Dash strapped to a table with robotic parts on her legs. Eggman turned swiftly around.
"WHAT?! YOU! HOW DID YOU GET...!" he shouted.
"I dunno what's slower. You or that."joked Sonic, as the robotic arms of the machine were sluggishly placing parts on Rainbow Dash. Sonic then jumped up and smashed the machine.
But Dr Eggman was ready. He pressed a button and SWATbots came through the door.
"Hey, it's been a long time since I saw those things!" said Sonic.
"It's also been a long time since one of them actually HIT you, Sonic. THESE ones are re-vamped, so their not stupid any more like the prototype ones a few years ago." explained Eggman.
"Alright, let's dance." said Sonic, revving his spindash.
"TARGET SIGHTED. PREPARE TO ATTACK." one of the SWATbots said.
It shot lasers from it's arm, but Sonic dodged them and hit one with Spindash, only to find himself bouncing off it.
"You can't break Aluminum, Sonic. OHOHOHOHOHOOO!" Eggman chuckled.
Sonic skidded to a halt near Rainbow Dash.
"Shadow, I need backup, now!" he shouted into his watch.
"On it." Shadow replied.
Sonic looked at Eggman, who was grinning.
"What's so funny?" said Sonic.
"Backup won't help you if I have THESE!" said Eggman, holding up two Chaos Emeralds.
"WHAT?!" exclaimed Sonic.
