Thank you for the reviews. I hope you're enjoying this. It's very short - annoyingly so - but it acts as a link.
She woke in the afternoon and reached across to grasp for his warmth. For a moment, in a very childish way, she panicked that she had dreamed their reunion when she felt nothing there but sheets. Tears threatened to spill over her eyes as she suddenly realised she may have imagined it. Then she heard his voice. Delighted, loud, Castilian.
She sat up in the bed, trying to shrug of the foolishness she felt at such a reaction, and was impressed to see her suitcases piled in a corner. He was on the phone, and with a 'I have to go now, old friend,' he hung up. He had showered and donned a shirt and slacks, and he looked quite pleased with himself.
"I had the porter bring your cases down," he pointed to the pile by the door, "I hope you don't mind. And in a very presumptive move, I cancelled your room."
She smiled and stretched out, "I don't mind your presumption."
"And also I phoned home. Fester, Dementia and mamma are going to take responsibility for our delightful offspring. Though Wednesday will help too. I am always forgetting that the only one that really needs looking after is Pubert," he shook his head, "I can't believe our little Pugsley and Wednesday are basically adults. God, Pugsley has his own business."
"A term I would use lightly," she swung her legs over the edge of the bed, "He loves everything he makes so much that he doesn't sell it. Exactly how long have you been paying the rent on his shop?"
"It's a taxidermy shop in Manhattan," he answered, excusing his son's woeful attempt at a business, "It's going to take a while to get off the ground."
"You spoil them," she made her way into the bathroom, "I'm going to shower."
She turned the water on, a nice scalding temperature, and stepped in. She let the water rush over her head, stood for a while and enjoyed the peace that had overcome her. She was so glad to have him back and delighted to know that, just through the door, her cigar smoking, mercurial, crazed husband was a step away and still madly in love with her.
