Chapter 14

It has been many months since I have seen Rose or that liar Elijah. I still can't believe he would say something like that about my best friend. And to also think that Dimitri, who I refuse to call Guardian Belikov, would go along with it.

No one has spoken about that night.

Right now we were following Alaric into a cellar to meet Damon, who said he had something to show us.

"You're here," Alaric said as we got to a doorway in which Damon was sitting.

"About time," Damon said standing up.

"You didn't have anyone else to call?"

"No, actually, I don't," Damon said. Alaric walked past Damon before turning around. "Because I need a non-vampire to get into the cave. And other than Elena, you're pretty much the only one I trust."

"Well you have a crappy way of showing it."

I looked towards the hole that was in the wall only to see a little boy looking through it into the darkness beyond. "Hey little boy," I said interrupting whatever Alaric and Damon were saying. Everyone else looked towards the hole to see the boy looking at us in what might have been fear.

"When did you get in here kid?" Damon asked rudely.

The boy looked around wildly before setting his eyes on Dimitri and running to hide behind his legs.

Dimitri frowned before bending down to the boy's height. The boy instantly flung his arms around Dimitri's neck. "Hey," he softly said to the boy with a smile on his face. "It's okay. We're not going to hurt you." The boy slowly moved back and looked at Dimitri, who slowly lost his smile and his eyes grew wide. "Henrik?" he asked shocked.

The boy, Henrik, smiled up at Dimitri. "Hi Dimi," he said cutely.

"You know this kid?" Damon asked.

"I did," Dimitri said still shocked.

"What do you mean did?" Mia asked.

"He died a long time ago."

"Are you sure? 'Cause he has a heartbeat unlike our dead buddy, Mason Lockwood," Damon said.

"How?" Dimitri asked.

Henrik shrugged his shoulders. "But I would like to keep it a secret for now."

Dimitri nodded his head and simply picked Henrik before looking at Damon. "What is it you wanted to show us?"

Damon remained silent and started through the hole in the wall.

At the end, Damon and Dimitri had to stop while the rest of us walked into an open space.

"Was Mason screwing with me or is there something there?" Damon asked. "Ric? Ric?"

"I found something," Alaric said in a whisper that echoed around us.

"What is it?"

"I have no idea."
