Chapter 21

Rose POV

After we had been fed, we all stood around a room in Klaus's house. Kol and Finn each had a glass of wine in their hand.

"I like what you've done with the new place Nik," Rebekah said.

I picked up a vase that was next to me and threw it at a painting on the wall. The vase smashed and the painting fell to the floor.

"That was rude," Lissa said from behind me and I rolled my eyes at Rebekah making her smile slightly. "They looked really expensive."

I looked at her with my eyebrows raised. "That was the reason I did it," I said. I looked back at Nik who had started to talk.

"I wanted it to be for all of us," he said. "A place we could all call home. A place we could be a family. None of us would have to be alone again."

Kol tipped his head towards the door slightly.

"Well, you're right," Elijah said. "None of us will be."

Elijah, Kol and Finn walked towards Rbekah and me on the stairs.

"You're staying behind," Finn said while passing Klaus.

"We're leaving you, Nik right after I kill that doppelganger wench," Rebekah said.

"Then you will be alone. Always and forever," I said reminding him of the promise we made a thousand years ago.

"If you run I will hunt all of you down," Klaus threatened.

"Then you will become everything you hate," Elijah said. "Our father."

"I'm the hybrid!" Klaus yelled. "I can't be killed!" he changed his voice into a 'menacing' tone. "I have nothing to fear from any of you."

That wasn't very frightening, I thought. I think he's lost his touch.

"You will once we have that coffin," Elijah said.

There was silence before the door opened. Those of us on the step turned around, only to be shocked by the figure standing before us. Our mother. Klaus gasped behind us. Mother stared at all of us, including the St. Vladimir's group.

"Mother," Rebekah said what was on everyone's minds.

Mother walked past us towards Klaus. I looked at Kol as he looked at me with the same shocked look as me. When Mother stopped in front of Klaus, he refused to look her in the face.

"Look at me," she commanded him. He slowly lifted his head to look at her. "Do you know why I'm here?"

Klaus waited a second before answering. "You're here to kill me," he said weakly.

"Niklaus, you are my son. I am here to forgive you." She stepped to the side and faced the rest of us. "I want us to be a family again."

"What is going on?" Lissa screamed. "I am so confused. Rose doesn't have any family besides us. And she is meant to be dead. She did have a dagger in her chest."

I rubbed by fingers on my temples. I could feel a headache starting. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see Elijah holing a glass of bourbon towards me.

"You look like you really need it," he said smiling.

I grabbed it from his hands hand knocked it back in one gulp.

"What was it that Rose said earlier?" Kol asked rhetorically. "That's right. You're idiots if you haven't figured it out yet."
