Chapter 14 (Third Person)

Ever since Maggie showed up Riley had gotten worse. She couldn't sleep anymore. Whenever she tried she would have nightmares ten times worse than her normal ones. It seemed to her that everything had gotten darker. That everything had suddenly become stupid and meaningless. Every day it got worse. And she knew that when they tried to kill Bellview at jail it wasn't going to work. He was going to do something. Something terrible. She just didn't know what.

People tried to cheer her up. Everyone tried to put her in a good mood, but nothing seemed to work. Sienna tried taking her to a club, but she left after ten minutes. Becca tried to watch movies with her like they always used to do, but she went back up to her room halfway through the movie. Seth planned a romantic date at the park with her, but she wouldn't crack a smile the whole time. They didn't know that her mind had gone dark. That every time they tried to do something it just made it worse. Riley didn't understand why everything made her depressed. No one did.

Finally the day of William Bellview's execution came. Everyone was happy and they tried to get Riley to be happy to.

"Riley its happening. It's finally happening. What do you think?" Becca asked her.

Riley looked up and shook her head.

"C'mon Riles, talk to me!"

Riley bit her lip and fell back onto her pillow, "You wouldn't get it."

"You're right. I don't get it. Why have you been acting like this? William Bellview is in prison! You should be happy!" she yelled.

Riley sat up, "I know that! Don't you think I know that? I don't know what's the matter with me! I don't know why I'm acting like this. I'm sorry Becca. I'm so sorry."

She shook her head, "Its fine Riley. Maybe once he's gone you'll get better again."

Riley looked like she was about to say something and then shook her head, "Yeah. Yeah I probably will," she told her. Becca smiled and got up, leaving the room. The second she was gone Riley shook her head at the door. He wasn't going to die. But if he wasn't going to die, then what was he going to do? Riley looked down at her watch.

His execution was scheduled at seven. It was six fifty eight. What was he going to do? Six fifty nine. She turned on the TV. Seven. Nothing would happen for a while. Not until they got the news. She watched the TV for a couple of minutes, wondering and waiting. Her phone buzzed and she checked it.

Seth

He's gone.

She smiled at her phone and suddenly a thought occurred to her. Maybe he was dead. Maybe something happened and he was dead! He might actually be gone. Suddenly the channel on the TV changed.

BREAKING NEWS

She glanced up at the TV and saw the reporter standing in front of California Correctional Facility. Wind was whipping her blonde hair around her face. She didn't want to hear her talk.

"We just got the news that William Bellview, kidnapper and murderer, has escaped from California Correctional Facility. Reports say he someone broke out of the bonds tying him to the electric chair and killed everyone watching from behind the one way glass. Bellview's whereabouts are not know, but police are looking for him."

Riley shook her head at the TV. NO! she thought, NO! NO! NO! Why did he do this? To have fun? Did he really think killing a room full of people was fun? It was her fault, she suddenly thought. If she hadn't been a child and had just told Seth or Collin or Jared then they could have gotten rid of him. Why didn't she tell them? She was so stupid! She practically killed all of those people. It was her fault. It was all her fault. If she had just told them… but she didn't. And now he was going to get her. He was going to come and kill her. He was going to win. She wouldn't let him win. As if in a trance she walked over to her desk and picked up a sharpie. She turned and walked up to the wall, writing two words in big, thick writing. And then she walked over to her bed and pulled off the sheet. She wouldn't let him win. She wouldn't let him win. She wouldn't let him win. She wouldn't let him win. She wouldn't let him win. She wouldn't him win. She couldn't let him win. And then she did it.

Rebecca POV

I don't know what's gotten into Riley. The way she's been acting is so… unlike her. She's been ignoring everyone, especially Seth and I know that that's hurting him. I glanced down at my watch. 7:00. That's it. He was dead and gone. Maybe this could be the one thing that makes Riley happy. And maybe after that she'll be like herself again. I shook my head and put The Perks of Being a Wallflower into the DVD player. Logan Lerman… I pulled myself up and walked over to the pantry. I popped in bag of popcorn and started texting Collin.

R- Satan's gone! Riley doesn't have to worry anymore.

C- : ) It's great! How r u?

R- I'm fine. I'm just worried about Riley, you know how she's been acting….

C- I know. Seth is worried to. But maybe now that Bellviews gone she'll be happy

R- Yeah, maybe. I'm watching Perks of Being a Wallflower. I just LOVE Logan Lerman!

C- :I

R- ;). I'm gonna go and see if Riley wants to watch it with me. TTYL

C- See ya later

I clicked off my phone and walked upstairs. "Hey Riles, wanna watch a movie with me?" I asked. Nothing. "It's The Perks of Being a Wallflower. You always say that you like that movie," I said. Nothing, "I made popcorn," I tried. Suddenly I heard a sound like a chair falling and someone choking. "Riley!" I screamed. "Let me in or I swear to god I'll kick the door down!" Nothing. Something was wrong. I'd taken the lessons with Riley. I lifted my leg and swiftly kicked down the door. I WIN was written on the wall.

When my eyes darted to the center of the room I screamed. I ran and lifted her up, praying it wasn't too late. Why would she do this? Why would Riley try to hang herself?

What happened? Did Riley make it? You have to review to find out.
