11. The Feast

It was almost dawn and I was still on watch when I heard something on the rock where I was sitting. "Gale; wake up" I called. Just then; something bit my arm and I cried out as Gale sprang up. "Hold still Phoenix" and he killed something. "What got me" I asked. "Cobra" Gale answered, tossing out the dead snake.

He carefully removed my jacket and rolled my sleeve up. "That's a bad bite and we can't be sure how much of the venom got into your system and we don't have any snake bite medicine" Gale said, now checking the first aid kit. I started sweating and I felt dizzy. Just as Gale was helping me lay down; we heard the following announcement "Tributes; at the Cornucopia; there is a pack with something you desperately need."

"Gale; you need to get me that medicine" I pleaded. "I can't leave you alone Phoenix" Gale replied stubbornly. "Go now Gale! You have to get that medicine if you want to have me as your bride" I replied. With that; Gale nodded, gathered some weapons, whispered to me "hang on my love" and he took off.

Gale's P.O.V

I didn't want to leave Phoenix when she was practically knocking on death's door. 'Hold on my angel of fire' I prayed, making my way to the cornucopia to get that medicine. I ran as quickly as I could, careful to avoid any traps that all the other dead tributes may have preset or any of the Capital's traps, or any I may have set for food.

I finally got to the cornucopia and saw my pack and noted the other was already gone. Quickly; I got my pack and rushed back to mine and Phoenix's hiding place. I could only hope that I wasn't too late to save my beloved. I got back in the cave and opened the pack.

"Phoenix" I whispered to her sleeping figure. "Gale" she whispered softly. I could feel her heartbeat fading fast. There was a case in the pack with a vial and a syringe. I filled the syringe and gave the medicine to Phoenix and managed to remove some of the venom. Now all I could do was wait and I knew it was really going to be touch and go but I vowed that if anything happened; I was going with her.
