Chapter 4: Haku's Summoning and a Reunion
-Flashback End-
It was late at night. Haku had just finished explaining his journey up to the end of his first mission with the resistance.
"So, this Pakura. How is she now?" Naruto asked, as the last of their camp fire's embers began to extinguish.
"She's still in the hospital from the final battle. She'll live, but she was still badly injured." Haku answered.
"Sounds tough." Naruto commented.
"She is. But, she doesn't want to go back to the Hidden Sand Village. Not after what happened." Said Haku.
"What do you mean?" Naruto asked.
"You'd have to ask her about that. It's very personal to her." Haku replied.
"Oh." Said Naruto, as he entered a deep thought. "Hmmm. She was in the resistance, right?" Naruto asked.
"Yea. Why?" Haku asked, curious why Naruto seemed so interested in Pakura.
"Does she have a Kekkei Genkai then?"
"Yea. She has the 'Scorch Style' Kekkei Genkai. Why are you asking all this?" Haku finally asked.
"Well, you said she didn't want to go back to the Hidden Sand. And, if by chance, she doesn't want to stay with the Hidden Mist..."
"Which she doesn't. I assume you would like to ask her about becoming a part of this crazy plan, to rebuild a once destroyed village?" Haku interrupted, finally seeing where this was going.
"Not just help us rebuild, but be a shinobi of the Hidden Whirlpool Village." Naruto corrected, earning a shocked and disbelieving look from Haku. "Hee hee. Anyway, it's getting late. We should turn in. Gotta long day tomorrow." Said Naruto, as he grabbed the bucket of water next to him.
*Sigh* "Alright. But I still think this whole idea is crazy." Said Haku, as he got up and got ready for bed.
-Few days Later-
Naruto and Haku were digging through the rubble. They hd been here looking for documents of any kind. Specifically, a list of clans that may have lived here. "This is crazy, Naruto. What makes you think that we'll find any documents? This village was destroyed decades ago. Nothing could've survived such an attack." Complained Haku. He was getting tired of digging through rubble all day. To him, it seemed like a pointless search that just seemed endless.
"I know it's a pain, Haku. But they weren't stupid. They had to have left something behind, just in case someone wanted to find out about their ancestry." Said Naruto, as he picked up another large rock and chucked it away.
"Then they'd leave behind that had their village's history. That's it." Haku replied.
"And in that history they might mention clan names, and the names of their most accomplished and loyal ninja." Said Naruto, chucking yet another large rock.
*Sigh* "Naruto. I admire your optimism, I really do. But, don't you think that you're putting too much faith in this?" Haku asked.
"I have no idea what the hell optimism means, but I'm going to keep looking untill I find what I'm looking for." Naruto replied, as he continued to chuck large rocks.
Haku couldn't believe it. Not only was Naruto not willing to give up, but he didn't even know what optimism meant, yet he wanted to rebuild a destroyed village from the ground up. Not willing to let Naruto's dream die though, Haku resumed helping Naruto with the rubble.
-An hour later-
"Naruto! Come here, I think I might have found something!" Haku yelled.
Naruto immediately stopped what he was doing, and ran over. "What is it, Haku?! What did you find?!" Naruto asked, in a loud voice.
Haku pointed at what he had dug up, and said. "It's the symbol the Leaf ninja where on their backs. But, why is this symbol here in the Hidden Whirlpool's ruins?"
Naruto knelt and began examining it. As he was examining it, Naruto replied. "Because, this is originally the symbol of the Uzumaki Clan."
"The symbol of the Uzumaki Clan?" Haku asked, confused about what he meant.
"Yeah. The Uzumaki Clan helped the Senju and Uchiha Clans build the Hidden Leaf. They where the symbol to show respect to their allies." Naruto answered.
"Being the Uzumaki Clan?"
"Yup. And if they have any documents, then they'd hide them here. C'mon." Said Naruto, as he started going to work moving rocks.
"Right." Haku replied, helping Naruto move the rocks.
-The next day-
It was around noon, when Naruto and Haku managed to finally clear an area big enough that could fit the ground floor of the Hokage's Mansion. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be anything that would normally contain documents. "Damn it! Why isn't anything here?!" Naruto yelled, as Haku began looking around.
Something seemed off about their surroundings. "Strange. I havn't seen any bookselves or anything, not even broken and burned pieces. Not even so much as ashes, or at least signs of ashes might have been here. Even though decades have passed, there should be some sign of papers and/or wood being burned." Haku thought, as he continued surveying the surrounding area. Getting an idea, Haku turned towards Naruto. "Naruto, what're you doing?!"
"Rasengan!" Naruto yelled, slamming his jutsu against the ground. The jutsu caused a large dust cloud appear. Once the dust settled, Naruto noticed two things. First, the ground was completely undamaged. Second, there were markings on the ground. "What the? Haku!" Naruto yelled.
Haku ran up to Naruto, and asked. "What is it, Naruto? And why did you use a jutsu?"
"That was my 'Rasengan', and I used it because I was frustrated about not finding anything. Haha. I guess it's a good thing I did that though, because I found these markings. They protected the ground from being damaged. So, that means that they built an underground room containing documents that they didn't want anyone getting to." Naruto explained, excited that they might have found what they've been looking for.
"Looks like a sealing jutsu, of some kind?" Said Haku, as he examined the markings.
"It is. Pretty complex too." Naruto replied, but he didn't lose his smile.
"Then why are you still smiling, if it's so complex?" Haku asked, seeing the smile on Naruto's face.
"Because, it's a special 'Chakra Seal'. 'Blood Seals' are easy to bypass if you have the person's blood. But it's a lot harder to bypass a chakra seal. It's also harder than any other seal that requires just chakra. It needs a specific person's, or relative's, chakra to open it." Naruto answered.
"And since the Uzumaki Clan's symbol was here, we could safely assume that your chakra can open this. But, how could you tell what kind of seal this is?"
"'Pervy-Sage' gave me this book on sealing techniques. He was probably going to train me in sealing, before all this past bullshit. Anyway, I recognized this in the book. It was created by the Uzumaki Clan. My mom is the last person to have the book, before 'pervy-sage' anyway. And the seal looks like a 'Blood Seal', But that's just to fool others. There're a few key differences that are hard to spot if you don't know where to look." Naruto explained, with his sheepish grin and his hand behind his head.
Again, Haku couldn't believe it. He had no idea that Naruto had some knowledge over the complex art of sealing.
"Alright, here goes." Said Naruto. Placing his hand down on the seal, Naruto began to channel his chakra into the seal. At first, nothing happened. But, Naruto just kept channeling his chakra into the seal. Soon, the ground began to shake. Right where the tip of Naruto's middle finger was, a line began to appear. The line grew horizontally and soon turned 90 degrees heading away from Naruto. By the time the ground stopped shaking, there was a spiral staircase made of solid rock.
"It's open. You did it." Said Haku, wide-eyed and slack-jawed.
Once again placing his hand behind his head, Naruto laughed. "Hee hee. Ready to head down?"
"Y..yeah." Haku replied.
They headed down the stairs, and came across a large dark room. Naruto thought that maybe the light operated by seals as well, so he channeled his chakra into the wall. A second later the lights came on, and the stairs disappeared. "Huh. Must do that automatically." Said Naruto, as he began looking around the room.
"You did that though. Right?" Haku asked, having jumped at the sound of the stairs closing.
"Yeah. C'mon, let's get started." Said Naruto. They then began to search the room. It was very organized, which made their search easier. Sections were labeled 'History', 'Sealing', 'Ninjutsu', 'Genjutsu', 'Taijutsu', 'Public Records', and 'Summoning'. The last two caught their attention.
"Looks like we finally found what we're looking for, huh." Said Haku.
"Yea. Let's go." Naruto replied.
And so they began their search through the 'History' and 'Public Records' sections. During the search, Haku asked about the 'Summoning' section. To which Naruto just replied. "Most likely scrolls about how to make summoning scrolls to summon people, or there might even be some 'Animal Summoning Contracts." With that, Haku continued his search.
-An Hour Later-
"Ok. Looks like we got clan names, and names of some other respectable shinobi of Hidden Whirlpool. 'Pervy-Sage' should be able to track down the descendants of the clans and other shinobi." Said Naruto, holding up a list of Clan and Shinobi names.
"You really thought this through didn't you?" Haku asked.
"Yup. Now, let's check out those Summoning scrolls." Said Naruto, as he went over to the 'Summoning' section.
"Why?" Asked Haku, as he followed Naruto.
"You'll see." Naruto replied, as he searched the shelves. After a few minutes of searching, Naruto found two large scrolls. "Here we go. And there's two of 'em. One for each of us."
"What do you mean, 'one for each of us'?" Haku asked.
"Animal Summoning. There are two contract on these shelves. We could sign them and we'd be able to summon animals that could help us in battle, send out messages and all sorts of things." Naruto explained, as he checked which contract belonged to which animal.
"Oh, that makes sense." Haku replied.
"Hm. I guess you could try this one, I think it suits you. Don't you think?" Naruto asked, showing Haku the scroll.
Taking a look at the scroll, Haku had to agree. "I think you're right. So how does the contract work?"
"You sign your name in blood, and then cover your finger tips with blood on the hand you want to summon with. Then you press your finger tips beneath your name. Then when you want to summon, just sacrifice a little blood and place your hand where you want to summon your animal companion." Naruto explained, as Haku went through the steps. Once Haku was finishes and had some blood on his right hand, Naruto finished his instruction. "The hand-signs are 'Boar', 'Dog', 'Bird', 'Monkey', and 'Ram'."
Having done what Naruto instructed him to do, Haku squeezed out a little more blood and performed the necessary hand-signs. "Summoning Jutsu!" Said Haku, placing his hand on the ground.
With a *poof* of smoke, a small white four-legged animal appeared just lying there. The animal was an Arctic wolf cub. It looked like it was just a couple months old. *Yaaawn* "What do you what?" Asked the animal.
"Sorry. It's my first time summoning anything before. My name is Haku, what is your name?" Haku replied, politely introducing himself.
"Name's Ranger. And obviously you've never summoned anything before, since we haven't been summoned since decades before I was even born."
"Wow. Not very polite, is he?" Naruto asked, with his face scrunched up.
"You would be too, if you were woken up from your nap." Said Ranger, staring up at Naruto.
"Hmm. Good point." Naruto replied.
"I'm sorry for waking you." Said Haku, giving a bow to the Arctic wolf cub.
"It's ok. So, do you need anything?" Ranger asked.
"Actually, yes. I was wondering if you could go to the Hidden Mist's Mizukage, and relay message for us." Haku answered.
"The Mizukage, huh? Sure, why not. What's the message?" Ranger asked, standing up and getting ready for his fist assignment.
"We would like you to ask her to tell Pakura to meet us at he edge of the western side of the Land of Water. The location is indicated on this map." Said Naruto, handing a rolled-up map to the wolf cub.
"Alright. I'll get there as fast as I can." Said Ranger, taking the scroll in his mouth before running off.
"Ranger, wait. The door isn't..." Naruto began.
"Ouch! Hey, where is the door?" Ranger asked, dropping the scroll and holding a paw on top of his head.
"Sorry, heheh. The door to the stairs close automatically, when the light in here are on. Haku and I need to head out real quick anyway, so let's get going." Naruto answered, as he and Haku headed for the door.
Having turned off the lights, the stairs once again revealed themselves. Once out of the underground library, Ranger set of towards the Hidden Mist Village while Naruto closed off the entrance to the library.
"I assume we're meeting with Jiraiya of the Legendary Sannin." Said Haku, once the entrance was sealed and hidden once again.
Turning to Haku, Naruto replied. "Yup. And we're using a special jutsu to get to him." Naruto then took out a kunai and dropped it on the ground, confusing Haku in the process. Taking notice of Haku's expression, Naruto said. "It'll help us get back with out the long travel."
Haku just nodded in response.
Naruto place his hand on Haku's shoulder, and then vanished in a flash of yellow.
-A hotspring in the Land of Grass-
Jiraiya of the Sannin, is a very powerful ninja. But you wouldn't expect it by his overly perverted personality. For at this moment, he was once again peeking at beautiful young women in the hotsprings. 'Research' is what he called it. Well, today he was so busy with his 'research', that he hadn't even noticed he had company.
"Hey Pervy-sage! Do you thin you could quit peeking on women in the hotsprings!" Naruto yelled, almost causing Jiraiya to fall out of the tree he was hiding in, and earning screams of 'Pervert!' from the bathing women.
"AAH! Damn it, Naruto! Do you have to show up now?! You were interrupting my research!" Jiraya yelled in return.
"Oh, can it. Where's Hinata?" Naruto asked, noticing she wasn't around.
*Sigh* "She's training just outside of town. I'll take you to her, she might need a break anyway." Jiraiya answered, as he hopped out the tree and started headed in the direction Hinata was in.
"Alright, sounds good to me." Said Naruto, hopping out of the tree, followed by Haku.
-Outside of town-
"So Naruto?" Jiraiya asked.
"Hm?"
"Who's the girl you brought with you?"
"That's Haku. And he is a guy." Naruto replied, earning a shocked and disbelieving look from Jiraiya.
"HUH?! You're kidding?"
"No, he's not." Said Haku, earning Jiraiya's attention. "My name is Haku Yuki." Said Haku, introducing himself with a small bow.
"I see. Well, it's nice to meet you Haku. I've heard quite a bit about you. Mostly about the final coup de' tat, against the 4th Mizukage. You have quite the skill." Commented Jiraiya, undoubtedly impressed with the boy's skill.
"Thank you, Lord Jiraiya. It's an honor to hear such a compliment from such a legendary ninja, such as yourself." Haku replied.
"Yea, it would be a lot better if he wasn't such a pervert." Said Naruto, not bothering to look back at them.
"Stop being so disrespectful, you little brat!" Jiraiya yelled.
"Or what, Pervy-sage." Naruto replied.
Truth be told, Jiraiya still felt he owed Naruto for not being there for him when he was younger. Which was why he was training his girlfriend, and was going to help him with this next favor. Even though he didn't know what it was yet, he knew that was part of the reason why Naruto was here.
Finally the group made it to a small clearing. In the clearing, stood a girl with short blue hair and wearing a khaki jacket. And just like Jiraiya said, it looked like she could use a break.
Breaking out in a large grin, Naruto called out to the girl. "Hey, Hinata! Why don't you take a break for a while?"
Startled by the sudden outburst, Hinata looked directly at Naruto. It seemed like Naruto was bearly able to blink, before she had him wrapped up tight in her arms. "Naruto. I'm so happy to see you. I've missed you." Said Hinata.
"I've...missed...you..too. Can't...breathe." Naruto replied, as he started to turn purple.
With a blush, Hinata let him go so he can breathe. "S..sorry Naruto. I'm just so happy to see you."
"It's ok, Hinata. I missed you too." Said Naruto, taking her chin into his finger and lightly kissing her on the lips.
OK, that's it for this chapter. Thank you for the votes you've all put in. I'm still going to keep it open, just in case others want to vote. The voting will be closed, once I've decided to début Naruto's new summoning. I hope you all enjoyed it so far. Thank you and please review.
