So I'm gonna start a new story -.- I know….I got this idea while I was freezing my butt off outside at the playground today waiting for my sister to get out of play rehearsal. I'll probably rate it M later on, maybe, maybe not…who knows.

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters and if I owned KND it would still be on the air and every couple I support would be together…DEAL!

You should listen to Once Upon A Time In New York City while you read this chapter; I think the song fits a lot.

Name: First Day Of School

Song: Once Upon A Time In New York City

Patton's Age: 7

Fanny's Age: 6 ½

Grade: 2nd

"So you're in Mrs. Rosario's class...sounds Italian or something." Bodanah Drilovsky muttered to her 7 year old son as she pushed him through the halls of Gallagher Elementary "You know, you could have come by yourself if you stupid father hadn't taken you out of public school when you were 5! Or you know, if he hadn't gotten his ass killed!" A couple of nearby parents glared at her and Bo glared right back.

Nearby, Fanny and Rachel were standing next to Rachel's locker chatting "So what did you do this time?" Rachel asked her friend

"All I did was correct Mrs. Rosario and she took it the wrong way, teachers get mad because I'm smarter than them, it's a known fact." Fanny replied

"Abby is smarter than them too but she doesn't correct them every 5 minutes and then tell them they're stupid." Rachel told the redhead matter-of-factly

"Whatever Rachel, you're going to have to cover for me again tonight."

"Yeah yeah, I know. So, you gonna tell me about this boy on the playground?"

"Uggg Rachel-" but Fanny's rant was cut short by Bartie walking up behind Rachel

"Did I hear talk of a boy? Not better than me is he?"

"Every boy on earth is better than you Bartie." Fanny said grinning teasingly as Bartie chuckled

"So who is he?" Rachel asked

Fanny looked at her friends "Okay, well, his name is...Patton!" Fanny ran toward the boy who was wondering around outside the office "I've been looking for you!"

Rachel and Bartie ran after her and met in front of the black haired boy

"You were looking for me?" Patton asked smirking

"Oh shut up." Fanny giggled "This is Patton guys, Patton Drilovsky."

"Thank god and all that's pure! Another boy! You know exactly how difficult it is to stand only girls?! Do you!"

"Bartie!" Rachel said threateningly

"Oh, sorry. I'm Bartie Stork, only person in this school who finds the time to get to know these two…well…Fanny that is."

"Just ignore Bartie, he's annoying, dead smart, but annoying. Rachel McKenzie's the name." Rachel said shaking Patton's hand

"Nice to meet you."

Bo came up behind Patton and sensing her son tense at her presence decided to make it known by doing what he knew she was going to do, say horribly embarrassing stuff. After giving her son a very fake 'I love you so much little Pattykins!' and a sloppy kiss on the forehead, she left and Patton thought he saw her pull out a flask as she headed toward the door, shaking his head he turned back to the three 6 year olds.

"Where's your locker Patton?" Rachel asked

"I don't know, mom didn't take me to the office yet." he said

"Oh." Rachel said avoiding eye contact "Is she usually like that?"

"Avoiding mother duties to go do her own thing? Yeah. Even before my dad died they were like that. To be fair she was 17 when I was born son she never really grew out of the irresponsible teenager stage."

The bell rang and Fanny groaned "Patton, you come with me, I'll take you into the office and show you around."

They waved good bye at Rachel and Bartie and headed into the office. Patton walked up to the lady at the desk.

"Hello ma'am."

She grinned "Well aren't you respectful, how can I help you young man?"

"I'm Patton Drilovsky. I'm starting 2nd grade today."

The lady looked through her files "Oh yes, here we are. Patton Drilovsky, age 7, born in Warsaw, Poland but you seem to be versed fairly well in English. Hasn't had much schooling since preschool." the lady looked at him and Patton turned red

"My family doesn't think an education is important. My dad took me out of public school when i was 5 because he hated the nuns."

The lady sighed "Alright Mr. Drilovsky, your guardian hasn't signed any of these forms."

Patton leaned over the desk to look at what the woman was looking at "Damn." the lady glared at him "I mean, dang it ma. She's been really troubled since my father died. I guess I could take them with me and if she comes home tonight, I'll ask her to sign them."

Patton started toward the door with Fanny following, her mouth hanging open. The lady at the desk was shocked at the response and was almost crying by the time the children left the office.

In the hall, Patton was trying to find locker 37 with Fanny following, shocked, eventually he found it and after putting his bag in her turned to her "What?"

Fanny scoffed "What? Your mother didn't stay to help you get settled in, she didn't fill in any forms, they didn't educate you in Poland..."

Patton waved his hand "They educated me, my uncle is a mythology teacher at the local independent college and his wife is a science teacher there as well. When they weren't working they taught me."

Fanny leaned against the lockers "But your mom..."

"Has always been like this, sure when I was younger she was a fairly okay mother, she cared when dad pulled me out of school. But recently she's been so distant. I don't really blame her though, she just lost her husband, the love of her life."

Fanny sighed and looked Patton directly in the eyes "But you just lost a father."
