Lore,
Molly's having the babies. Fabian and Gideon are taking care of the kids right now, but if you could pop over there it would be great. (I don't know if I can trust them alone with the kids).
Thanks,
Arthur
Loralei read the rushed handwriting, and looked down. She was still in her pajamas. It was a Saturday morning after all.
The owl that brought the letter had tapped insistently on the window, refusing to stop until Lily let it in. Loralei could have handled a few minutes more of it, but they she would probably started yelling at the bird in a rather insane fashion. Now, Loralei was happy that the bird was impatient. She needed to get dressed. She couldn't go out with no pants on.
Loralei nearly fell out of bed, and pulled on jeans, and took off her sweatshirt and put on a bra and black sweater. She bushed her teeth and hair, before tying her hair back from her face, and grabbing a bag in case she needed to stay for a few days.
She told Lily to tell the boys where she was, and she went off to see the headmaster. She just hoped that he would be awake and in his office. And luck was on her side. With a smile and a, "give the Weasley's my regards," he sent her though his fireplace.
When Loralei arrived in the house, she learned quickly that the boys didn't know what they were doing. Charlie was running around in little toddler sweatpants, giggling his head off, Bill was sitting on the couch reading while the chaos around him was happening, and Fabian and Gideon were trying to console Percy, who wanted his mother in the kitchen.
Loralei decided to pick up Charlie. "Have you had breakfast yet, kid?" She asked.
Charlie shook his head. "Nope, Auntie Lore."
She turned to Bill. "How about you, Bill?"
Bill looked up from his book and shook his head.
Loralei sighed. "All righty, then. What do you both want? Eggs and toast sound good?"
"You're not going to try to help Uncle Fab and Uncle Gid?" Charlie asked.
"Do you want them to make you breakfast?" She asked.
"NO!" Bill and Charlie yelled.
Loralei laughed. "Then they can manage a few more minutes." She stated. "How about you both set the table?"
Eager to please Loralei, the two boys did as she asked.
"Hey, boys." Loralei said, a teasing note in her voice as she passed them to get to the fridge to get things she needed to make the boys food.
"A little help?" Fabian asked, rocking the crying toddler back and forth.
"I think you've got it pretty well. The boys want me to make them breakfast, I'll help when I'm done."
"I'll do that." Fabian held out the crying child.
"I'm afraid not. They asked for me specifically. I guess I just know how to cook, and you don't." She teased. "But if you ask real nicely, I might just help you when I'm done."
"Pretty please, little blonde one?" Gideon and Fabian asked in unison.
Loralei batted her eyelashes. "Well, since you said please..." She started the stove. "Give me twenty minutes, but he likes being walked around."
"It wasn't helping before."
"Well it's better than just letting him scream." Loralei replied, as the toddler gave another wail.
Fabian seemed to agree, because he started walking in circles around the house.
twenty minutes later, Loralei had breakfast made, eggs, bacon, and toast. The boys were eating, and Gideon was snacking on bacon as Loralei took Percy from his uncle. He instantly got better when he was handed to Loralei, curling against her chest.
"That's a good boy," she cooed, bouncing him as his cries became whimpers.
"How did you do that?" Fabian asked in awe.
"What can I say? Kids love me." She smirked. "Now go eat something, I take it that you haven't this morning."
Fabian did as she said as she sat in a rocking chair, comforting little Percy.
"Where's Mummy?" He asked when he had mostly calmed down.
"She's gone to have your two little brothers." Loralei told him.
"The ones in her tummy?" He asked, turning his head to look up at her.
Loralei laughed. "Yes, the ones in her tummy."
"When is she coming back?"
"Soon, I promise, and until then I'll be around, okay? You have nothing to worry about." She promised, kissing the top of his head.
The toddler snuggled closer to Loralei as she rocked him back an forth.
Hours later, Sirius and Remus arrived. Fabian and Gideon had gone to work only moments before, after Loralei assured them that she would be fine without them, and reminded them that nothing was in control when she wasn't there.
She was reading stories to Charlie and Percy as Bill read one of his own books, not wanting to listen to, "little kid stories." But after the boys arrived, all they wanted to do was play.
Sirius had the two oldest outside, throwing around the Quaffle Sirius had brought. Remus, who had remembered the gifts she had bought the kids, left them for her on the Kitchen counter, before playing with Percy as he talked to Loralei.
"So what are James and Lily doing with their weekend?" Loralei asked.
"I think they're planning to come visit this afternoon." Remus told her. "Not that you need any help. You seemed to have everything under control over here."
Loralei smiled. "Much better than the twins did. They were dying over here when I arrived."
"But you saved the day, a regular super hero." Remus teased.
"You bet I am." Loralei grinned.
"So I take it you are staying here tonight?" Remus asked.
"Yeah, unless the Weasley's get home and don't want me to stay to help out." Loralei shrugged. "I already cleared it with Dumbledore."
"At least our last NEWT was last night, huh?" Remus asked. "Otherwise this would be terrible."
"Yeah, I'd make at least one of the twins stay here so I can go take my tests. Or ask Dumbledore if I can take them and have someone watch them."
"You thought of this already?"
"The baby was due in April, if they came early, then I needed ideas." She shrugged. "These kids are the closest thing I think I'll ever get to having kids."
"Why? You don't want kids?" Remus asked.
"Of course I do, I just don't want one in this world...how it is with the war and everything." She muttered as Percy got up on his wobbly legs and waddled over to Loralei and lifted his arms up to signal that he wanted her to pick him up. Loralei leaned down and picked up Percy.
"Well, I have to say these kids love you." Remus told her. "What did you do? Bribe them with sweets?"
Loralei giggled. "No, gifts actually."
Remus laughed. "Of course! Sweets go away after they eat them, toys stay around until they break."
"Yep, and by then I can get them new ones. Really, I just spoil these kids. That's all you need to do, really." Loralei told him, before looking at Percy. "Right, Perce?"
The little toddler nodded his head, though he didn't really know what he was agreeing to.
"See? Even he agrees!" Loralei laughed.
"I bet he'll agree with me too." Remus got on his knees and shuffled until he was in front of Loralei and Percy. "Do you like homicide, Percy?" He said this like a good thing, something to be excited for.
Percy nodded enthusiastically.
Loralei and Remus laughed. "No fair! He doesn't even know that word yet!"
"But it proves that he will agree to anything, so I win." Remus bragged.
"Really, Remmy? Well we never bet anything, so you didn't win much, did you?"
Remus pouted. "Shut it."
Loralei laughed. "Don't make me put you in time out, Remus."
"What? Would you like me to call you 'Auntie Lore' too?" Remus teased.
"If you act like a child, you may." She told him. "But you seem to be fine right now."
"I'm older than you, girl." Remus said.
"Yet, I'm Auntie Lore, and you're just Remus to them."
"I don't like all that, 'Mister' stuff." Remus shrugged. "But if you get married to someone, does that make him their uncle?"
"No idea. Don't plan on getting married for a while, though." She told him. "Don't feel like it."
"Oh, I know." He chuckled. "But your brother definitely has it on his mind."
Loralei's jaw dropped. "He wants to get married?"
Remus nodded. "He's been talking about it a bit. Mentioned it more like."
Loralei stared at him. "Spill. You must tell me everything."
"I don't know much, only that he's been talking about it lately, and he wants you to figure out how Lily feels on the subject before he brings it up to her." Remus grinned, knowing that he was driving her mad with the little details he gave her.
"Fine, but you're going to have to give me a bit. I'll get his answer on if she's like me, or if she wants to get married young." Loralei sighed, as if it was a great chore. "The matchmaking services of Loralei Potter, everyone."
