Loralei was awoken by crying. She opened her eyes, and found herself in her room...but she was just talking to Remus and Sirius...

Loralei rolled her eyes. She fell asleep, but they carried her to bed. How sweet. It didn't change that the twins were crying, and she needed to go comfort them.

She pulled herself out of bed, and walked across the hall to where she set up the twins.

By the time she got to the door, the crying had stopped.

Loralei opened the door to see Remus and Sirius holding each of the twins.

"Should we wake up Loralei?" Remus asked.

"No, she fell asleep at nine, she needs to sleep." Sirius told him. "We can handle this."

Loralei bit her lip before speaking. "I'm already awake."

The two boys turned to look at Loralei in the doorway.

Sirius smiled. "What? You get practice, but we don't?"

Loralei smiled. "Do whatever you like, but they're probably hungry."

"Go back to bed." Sirius told her. "We have this."

"Yeah, I mean, how bad can this be?" Remus asked.

Loralei raised her hand in surrender. "Okay, okay. I'll go back to bed."

Molly and Arthur came to pick up their kids Sunday afternoon, Loralei was met with thank you's and hugs. Loralei was holding George until she handed him to Molly

"How were they?" Molly asked.

"Angels." Loralei replied. "And don't you both look like you got a full night's sleep."

They laughed.

"It's about time too." Arthur smiled. "Neither of us have been able to sleep for more than two hours without being woken up since Bill was born."

"Well, I'm happy you could this weekend, you two." Loralei smiled. "They were great, the boys even fell in love with them."

"That's great." Molly smiled. "When do you start your training?"

"Tomorrow morning." Loralei told her.

"Well, we'll get out of your hair, then. I'm sure you have stuff to do." Arthur said.

"Yeah, hope you both had a good weekend." Loralei smiled. "See you both later."

"Bye, good luck tomorrow!" Molly told her, hugging her tightly.

"Thank you."

"First day in auror training! First day in auror training!" Loralei sang, wearing black robes, but with a bag with work out clothes in it. She sipped from her coffee mug, but couldn't stop herself from grinning.

"Speak for yourself, I have healer training with Lily, and I don't know how I'm going to keep my furry problem a secret." Remus replied, fidgeting with his tie, trying to tie it, and failing with shaky fingers.

"Let me do it." She told him, pulling Remus toward her, and smoothing his tie, before beginning to tie it. "Why are you wearing muggle clothing?"

"Because it's a statement, that I'm against the Death Eaters." He told her. "It can only help me."

"You are the smartest man I know. You will go through the course with flying colors." She told him. "I believe in you."

He laughed without humor. "At least one of us do."

"What time do you have to be there?" Loralei asked.

"Nine." He told her. "But Lily and I are meeting there at half eight."

"Well, have fun." Loralei told him. "Knock 'em dead. Tell her to do the same for me."

"I think, as healers, we would be hoping for the opposite." He laughed.

"Okay, knock 'em healthy." She paused, scrunching up her nose. "That doesn't have the same ring to it."

"So, what were we supposed to bring, Lore?" Sirius asked, walking into the kitchen as he checked his bag.

"Work out clothes, notebook, quill, and wand." Loralei listed.

"Good," he sighed, putting his rucksack on the marble island next to Loralei's bag. "Have I missed anything?"

"Loralei wants me to kill patients." Remus told him.

Loralei smacked his arm lightly. "I do not."

"I don't even want to know." Sirius shook his head.

"Over the next three years you will be trained, and after that you will be judged." Moody growled. He had dark eyes, and greying dark hair. Pale skin with pink scars on all of the skin his dark brown clothing exposed. He was frightening to look at, but none of the new recruits would look away.

"That doesn't mean you will all make it though. We have never had a class that the entirety of it made it through the training." Moody went on, turning to two identical tall, thin, ginger boys that were flanking him. "Prewett one and Prewett two, how many people made it in your class?"

"Just us." They stated together.

"And how many people were in your class?" Moody asked.

"Three, sir."

"Three. And there is six of you, so if it happens like last year, only four of you will be able to make it farther in this career. This is competitive." Moody growled, turning back to the recruits. "Today, you will learn how to defend yourself with and without a wand. You will be shown around, and given a schedule of where to be and when. This is your first day, and if you think it is hard I suggest you resign right now and not waste any more of my time." He turned to the twins. "Take them to see Oliver."

Fabian grinned. "Come on ickle graduates." He turned and waved them to follow him.

"Don't let Moody scare you too bad." Gideon told them.

"He's not too bad when you get to know him." Fabian went on.

"He just likes scaring you." Gideon continued as the twins led them down a hallway, reflective black tile making it oddly bright, though they were surrounded in darkness, the bright young faces of the new recruits were reflected back at them.

"Womens shower room." Fabian pointed to a dark brown wooden door to the left side. "And the mens." He pointed to an identical door parallel to the first. "There will be a locker inside with your initials on it. This is where you will put your things, there will also be schedules inside where you will be assigned with another recruit since we have a big group this year."

"So after you get changed into your workout clothes, partner up out here." Gideon continued.

"What if we don't like our partners?" James asked.

"Well, this isn't school anymore." Fabian said.

"You're going to get along with them if you are told to." Gideon added.

"Welcome to the real world." Fabian finished. "On your way."

Loralei was the first through the door. She walked down the row of wooden lockers. Hers was at the end of the row. She got her clothes out of her bag, and put it in the locker, on the inside of the locker door was her schedule and the name of the recruit she was partnered with. Katie Greene.

Loralei recognized the name, but didn't know the girl well. She was on another quidditch team. She remembered that this was one of the only seekers that always gave her a challenge, even won against her. She knew that it was the other blonde girl, since the only other girl besides her was Alice.

"Loralei?" Katie looked at Loralei.

"Yeah, looks like we're together for the next year." Loralei nodded. "You were a seeker right?"

"For Slytherin." She nodded with a smile. She was shorter than Loralei by a couple inches. Probably barely making five feet. She had long blonde hair that hung to her elbows with little waves. It wasn't a golden blonde, like Loralei's. It was more silver, while her eyebrows were very dark. Her eyes were turquoise, and her upper lashes were enhanced with black eyeliner. She had a small nose, and high cheekbones. She was fit, she had to be to be a seeker, She started tying back her long hair in a messy bun on the back of her head.

"You knew Severus Snape then?"

"I didn't hang out with wanna-be Death Eaters. In the end I just had Colin to hang out with." Katie shrugged. "What about you? You could've gone pro with quidditch, but you decided to come here?"

"What can I say? I'm a true Gryffindor at heart." Loralei rolled her eyes. "You could've gone pro too."

"Naw, I wanted to piss off my pureblood parents. You can guess which side of the war they're on." Katie rolled her eyes.

"What? They didn't disown you?" Loralei asked.

"Oh, that was when I wouldn't give up my mudblood love." Katie stated, her smile sickly sweet. "So last year."

"I think you and I are going to get along great." Loralei told her. "How come we weren't friends sooner?"

"I decided to stay below the radar." Katie told her. "Plus we both wanted the other to go down whenever we were on the field. That can't be healthy for friends to do."

Loralei laughed. "Well, there is a thing there that may be unhealthy." She agreed, holding out her hand. "Loralei Potter."

Katie took it. "Katie Greene."

"Well, I think we should get along just fine." Loralei smiled. "I take it your a pureblood?"

"Just like you."

"Not by birth. I don't know what I am."

"But you are veela?" Katie asked. "I'm only a quarter, my mother was half, but we all have the same sort of look, don't we? Small stature, light colored eyes, most of us are blonde."

"Is that your hair color? I thought it was more like silver." Loralei laughed. "It's beautiful though, I swear, it's lighter than your skin."

Katie laughed. "Yeah, family trait. My mother had it, my brother has it, my sister has it." She rolled her eyes. "Sadly, it's very easy to tell that I am related to my family."

"I understand that, Sirius feels the same way." Loralei told her.

"The pureblood cure.' Katie sighed. "I'm going to go get changed, meet you outside assigned partner?" She smirked.

"Of course."

Loralei and Katie got along well. They were even matched well in strength. Though Katie was shorter, Loralei was sure even without a wand she could take down a man twice her size. Katie thought the same about Loralei.

After they had their hand-to-hand combat, they had to go to disguises, and after that they had stealth and tracking. During lunch the recruits all went to lunch together before returning where Loralei and Katie had to learn more about poisons and antidotes. By the time the day was over, Loralei was ready to pass out on the sofa.

The days kept going like this for weeks. Get up early, go to training, come home, pass out. Without much celebration Loralei turned eighteen. On weekends she would spend time with the Weasley's and her and Sirius designated Saturday nights as, "date night."

They all fell into the routine, not having enough energy to do anything else. Slowly the training got harder, and fall became winter. James and Lily set a date to get married in spring, and that added another thing for Lily and James to plan with the help of Loralei, (Maid of Honor) and Sirius, (Best Man) as well as Remus and Peter (Groomsmen), though Peter seemed like he was not to be found most of the time.

Loralei was tired all the time. This wasn't how she thought it would be. She romanticized it far too much. The fridge was full of take-out containers, and she found herself doing laundry when she was even too tired to think. When Remus came back, he'd heal Loralei and Sirius' bruises and cuts they suffered from training.

Time moved too quickly. Training moved too slowly.

The ring in Sirius' pocket became heavy.
