Loralei woke up in St. Mungo's. She wasn't in pain, but she had a feeling that it was because of potions they poured down her throat while she was unconscious. She opened her eyes, the room's lights were dimmed, otherwise she wouldn't be able to see very well.
There was a warm hand wrapped around hers. Loralei saw Sirius, asleep in a chair, leaning forward on the bed.
Everything came back to her, and she tried to get out of bed. That's how she woke up Sirius.
"Loralei!" He jumped to his feet. "Are you in pain, are you okay?"
"Katie! Is Katie okay?" Loralei asked. "Fabian and Gideon..." She started breathing harder. "They're dead."
"I know," he hugged her. "Katie is alive. She is okay. A little banged up, she's going to have a few scars, but she'll be okay."
"She's okay?" Loralei's eyes filled with tears. "I need to see her-I need to see she's okay."
"She's in the bed next to you, she just went out to walk around a bit, okay?" Sirius said. "She'll be back in a minute."
"Has anyone told Molly about her brothers?" She asked. "She needs to know."
"She knows, and we told her we'd send her a message when you wake up. She was worried about you." Sirius told her. "She wants to know what happened."
Loralei nodded. "Is there anything else?"
"Moody is going to come in after I send word that you're awake to get a statement from what happened in your words." Sirius told her. "I can't wait more than a couple hours."
"Wheres Lily and James?" Loralei asked, ignoring what she remembered completely. She didn't want to remember. Watching her mother die two years ago was hard, but somehow watching someone be murdered was so much worse. She couldn't deal with it. Not now. She hadn't even had time to process it in her mind. To understand.
"They went home to get some sleep." Sirius told her. "Remus is in the Dai Lewynn Ward, do you want me to get him?"
Loralei shook her head. "I need Katie."
Just then, the door opened and Katie stumbled in, holding Colin for support. His arms were wrapped around her. She didn't look to bad besides the walking, her hair had a steak of silver in it. She was tortured, more than Loralei was.
"Loralei!" Katie forced herself to walk towards Loralei, and Colin helped her get on the bed. "How are you?"
"How are you?" Loralei replied. "What did she do to you?"
Katie looked at Colin, who cleared his throat.
"Sirius, let's get the girls something to eat from anywhere but the cafeteria." Colin said. "They need something besides the crap they call food here."
Sirius nodded, getting that the girls needed to be alone. "Do you want anything?" He asked Loralei.
"Food. Any food." She told him.
He nodded, leaning down to kiss her forehead lightly, like he was scared he was going to hurt her. "I'll be back soon."
Loralei nodded. "Love you."
"I love you more." He smiled a bit sadly, before walking off with Colin. They shut the door behind them.
"I know what happened to you." Katie told her. "I know that you were hit with some pretty nasty curses, and you were tortured." Katie pulled a streak of hair from the side of her head. It had gone silver. "Yours is on the back of your head, mine is at the front."
Loralei looked at it a moment. "I felt like I was tortured for hours."
Katie nodded. "I felt like that too. They don't know how long we were under the curse, but they were surprised that we were so strong to not be worse off."
"What else did she do to you?" Loralei asked.
Katie was wearing a large sweatshirt, too large to be hers. She slowly pulled it over her head, and underneath she only wore a black sports bra. On her chest she had bandaging, but Loralei didn't know what it was for.
"Bellatrix Black had a knife. She overpowered me and caved two words on my chest. Mudblood lover."
Loralei's eyes got larger. "What?"
"I'm scarred for life. The knife was cursed, whatever is cut with it bares the marks. Colin has been doing tests, but we can't get them to go away or fade. They're healing like cuts that haven't been healed with magic." Katie lowered her sweatshirt back over her. "I've been cold since I lost all that blood. They've been giving me potions to get my blood count back up, but their doing it slowly to see if there's any reaction with my cursed engravings." She frowned.
Loralei hugged her friend. "I should have never left you alone."
"I can't blame you," Katie told her. "You were friends with them. I would have done the same given the chance."
Loralei rubbed her face roughly. "What do we do now? How do we just keep on doing this job?"
"We do this job to protect our family." Katie told Loralei, her voice strong. "We do this job to protect people. To get the bad guys put away for a very long time. We do this, and we convince everyone that purebloods aren't so bad."
"And Slytherins." Loralei added.
"Gideon and Fabian wouldn't have wanted us to give this up." Katie told her. "They would want us to make a difference."
Loralei nodded. "Our first time out, and this happens..."
"Moody never thought anything was in there. He actually told the boys to try to scare us. He's not going to push you too hard to get a statement, but I told him the truth. He said we get the best we could with the training we had. He's proud that we did so well. When he got there he didn't expect any of us to be alive." Katie told her. "It wasn't supposed to be a big deal. We just got the one thing that was actually true. Everyone else was brought to our location. Colin, Lily, and Remus were the medical responders, but they weren't aloud near us after since they are emotionally involved."
"How long have I been asleep?" Loralei asked.
"I was asleep for two days. You for three." Katie told her.
"What happens now?"
"We have recovery before we go back to work. They want us to spend the next month at Hogwarts since there isn't much going on there, and we can be looked after by the couple aurors that are there." Katie frowned. Obviously she did not like the idea.
"Do you think we failed the training?" She asked.
Katie shook her head. "No. He promised that this wouldn't effect our training negatively."
Loralei nodded. "Okay, so we just do what we're told and try to get over this?"
Katie took her friend's hand. "I think we both know that we're not going to get over this."
"Fabian asked me to marry him a few years ago. And he always wanted kids. He never got them, Kates!" Loralei told her, her eyes filling with tears.
"Don't feel guilty, Lore." Katie told her.
"I don't feel guilty! I feel sad!" Loralei stated passionately. "What if we never get to do what we want to? What if we never get to grow up? What if we never have kids, or be able to be there for the people we love because we are dead?"
"We won't be." Katie promised her. "You and me. We're partners. We're going to make it through the training. We are going to become the most badass aurors anyone has ever seen. We've survived this, we can survive anything."
"We'll get through this together." Loralei nodded, looking a bit in shock.
"We'll live long and happy lives, and settle down when we get old. There's no need to rush into anything right now. Let things settle." Katie told her. "Don't worry, we're not going to be under fire any time soon."
Loralei nodded. "We'll be okay."
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"I didn't tell Moody everything." Loralei told Sirius as they got home.
"What didn't you tell him?" Sirius asked.
Loralei breathed in a slow breath before sighing. "Bellatrix said that Voldemort wanted me for something. She stopped Dolohov from killing me because of it."
"You have to tell him, Lore." Sirius told her. "We need to get you protected."
"I'll be fine." Loralei told him. "I just felt like you needed to know."
"Loralei, I wouldn't be able to do this without you, you need to go in some protection program or something." He grabbed her arms lightly, leaning down so they were eye-to-eye. "I don't think I could live without you. I wouldn't want to."
"Sirius..." She sighed. "Don't say that."
"What would you do if I died?" He asked.
She shook her head. "I don't want to think about that." She looked away.
"Then don't make me think about it." He told her. "Don't make me, Lore. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have you."
"You won't have to as long as I have you too." She told him. "Nothing's going to happen with us. We're going to grow old, and never be apart more than a day, I promise."
"Then marry me." Sirius said. "Marry me, today, tomorrow, whenever you want, just say you'll marry me."
A/N: I hope everyone had a good Halloween? Did anyone else just sit home and hand out candy? I had an early class this morning, so I couldn't do much. Haha.
C.B. Weasley: Yes! I'm sorry! It had to be done! I'm trying to stay as close to canon as possible.
koryandrs: Yep... Let the deaths start...
