RICKY'S POV:
I looked up at the ceiling and then to Brax and then to the clock on my bedside table – 2:30am. Climbing out of bed, I wrapped my dressing gown around me and walked out into the kitchen, pouring myself a glass of water, staring out of the window as I drank it…
BRAX'S POV:
Turning over, I reached for Ricky on her side of the bed. Opening my eyes, I saw she wasn't there. Glancing at the time, I became even more confused. Climbing out of bed, I walked into the kitchen, finding her sat at the kitchen table…
"Hey" I greeted her, kissing the back of her hair
"Hey, I didn't mean to wake you" she admitted
"You didn't" I assured her "what's going on? Why are you awake?"
"I'm terrified" she informed me
I sighed and wrapped my arm around her shoulder… "Nothing like what happened last time is going to happen today"
"We don't know that, Brax" she sighed
"What happened last time was something totally out of our control" I replied "we couldn't have stopped it even if we'd tried"
"I know that, but what if something happens with me?" she inquired "what if my body rejects our baby and I lose it?"
"Now you're just being silly" I informed her "everything up to now has been fine, but now we've reached today, you're just scared and nervous, which I am too, but Ricky, you've gotta believe me, everything is going to be okay"
"Promise?" she questioned after a couple of minutes silence
"Promise" I mirrored, cupping her cheek in my hand, kissing her softly "now let's go back to bed, okay?"
She nodded her head, signalling yes. Taking her hand in mine, we stood up and I led her back into our bedroom…
RICKY'S POV:
"Have fun last night, did you?" Heath asked as I stifled a yawn
"What?" I questioned
"You're tired, so is Brax. Have some fun, did you?" he inquired
"You remember what today is, don't you?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him
"No, should I?" he questioned
"It's our 3 month scan, you idiot" I replied "and after what happened last time, we're both scared, and that's why we were awake"
He smiled at me apologetically and walked over to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder… "You and this one are going to be fine"
I smiled at him warmly... "Are you okay to watch Jacob while I have a quick shower?"
He nodded his head, signalling yes, moving into the living room to sit next to Jake who was watching cartoons. Smiling warmly at them both, I placed my coffee cup in the sink and walked into mine and Brax's bedroom…
BRAX'S POV:
Ricky and I sat in the waiting room, waiting for her name to be called. Standing up as she was called in, we made our way into the room, Ricky climbing up onto the bed, lifting up her shirt for the midwife to squirt some gel onto her stomach. Entwining her hand with mine, she smiled at me and then turned her head to the screen…
"And there's your baby" she informed us a couple of minutes later
"Is he or she okay?" Ricky questioned
"Happy and healthy by the looks of it" she replied
"What's that?" I asked as a noise filled the room
"That's your child's heartbeat" she informed us "strong and fighting fit"
Ricky turned to me and smiled widely, tears filling her eyes…
"I love you" I informed her
"I love you too" she mirrored
"Jake, can you come in here please?" Ricky asked later that afternoon
"I haven't done anything wrong" he informed us
"We know" she chuckled "just sit down, mate. Daddy Brax and I have something to tell you"
The three of us moved to the kitchen table and Ricky took the scan picture from her purse and placed it on the table in front of Jacob…
"What's this?" he inquired
"That's your little brother or sister" I informed him
"What?" he questioned
"I'm pregnant, mate" Ricky explained "and this one, is growing inside my tummy"
"And in 6 or so months time, there's going to be a new little person around the house" I replied
"Okay" he stated
"Jake, you do know what this means, don't you?" Ricky inquired
"Yeah, I'm going to be a big brother" he replied
She smiled at him warmly… "Yeah you are, mate. Are you excited?"
"I suppose" he admitted, shrugging his shoulders "won't know till they're here. Can I go and play now?"
Ricky and I nodded our heads in unison, chuckling as he left the room…
"1 down, 5 to go" Ricky informed me
I nodded my head in agreement, wrapping my arm around her shoulder as she moved closer to me…
