Drama central now, but not drama you'd expect…
RICKY'S POV:
Brax and I were driving back from a long weekend away, just the two of us when I felt a painful twinge in my stomach. Wincing in pain, I pressed my hand to my stomach as it happened again…
"Ricky, what's the matter?" Brax asked worriedly
"I don't know" I admitted "oh God, no, not now"
"What?" he questioned
"My waters have broken" I informed him
"We're in the middle of nowhere, they can't have" he proclaimed
"Well they have" I replied "Brax, what's happening?"
I watched as Brax pressed his foot to the accelerator but it just kept jolting and then nothing. We'd broken down…
"Brax" I whimpered
"It's fine" he assured me, cupping my cheek in his hand "Ricky, look at me, it's fine"
I licked my lips and nodded my head in agreement, watching as he made his way out of the car and round to my side, unbuckling my seatbelt…
"What're we doing?" I inquired
"We're gonna sit you down" he informed me, sitting me down on the ground, leaning back against the car "and I'm gonna call the midwife and then I'm gonna call Heath"
I nodded my head in understanding, clutching my stomach as a contraction shot through me…
"Brax, I'm having contractions" I informed him as he pulled out his phone
"It's fine. Remember, it's fine, yeah?" he asked
He knelt down next to me, entwining my hand with his as he dialled the midwife. Watching him, he set the phone on the ground and put it on speakerphone…
"Hi, Ricky" her voice spoke a couple of moments later
"Hi" I whimpered
"Stay calm, okay?" she questioned "now Brax has filled me in on the situation and it doesn't look like you're going to get to the hospital in time so he's going to deliver the baby"
"What?" I inquired
"It's fine, remember? We can do this, yeah?" he asked, smiling at me warmly
"Elaine, I'm scared" I admitted
"I know you are but it's gonna be fine. Brax is going to look after you and I'm going to be on the phone the whole time" she informed me "Brax, I need you to get some towels"
Watching him, he moved from my side to the boot of the car, pulling out a couple of towels from our bags…
"Got them" he replied "now what?"
"I need you to check Ricky" she informed him "what can you see?"
Brax kissed me softly, entwining his hand with mine again as he looked between my legs…
"I can see something" he admitted "I think it might be the feet"
"Okay" Elaine replied "Ricky, when your next contraction comes, I need you to push"
"Okay" I whimpered, squeezing tightly on Brax's hand as a contraction shot through me
"Good girl" Brax proclaimed as I inhaled and exhaled through the pain
"What can you see now, Brax?" Elaine inquired
"The feet" he informed her
"Okay" she replied "every contraction that comes, you need to push, Ricky"
BRAX'S POV:
Ricky was doing amazingly well, both of us following Elaine, the midwife's instructions and forty minutes later, I took our baby in my arms, wrapping it in a towel...
"Is it a boy or a girl?" Elaine inquired
"A girl" I informed her "thank you so much"
"You two did all the work" she replied "congratulations. I'll see you when you get here"
I handed our little girl to Ricky, watching her with awe as she placed her against her chest. Picking up my phone, I dialled Heath's number, informing him of the situation…
RICKY'S POV:
I sat in the car, cradling our little girl who was sleeping when Heath pulled up behind us, hurrying over to us…
"Congratulations, Ric" he greeted me, cooing over our little girl
"Thanks" I replied "can you get us to hospital now please?"
"Course" he informed me, helping me to my feet, leading me to his truck
"Brax, what're you doing?" I inquired
"I have to wait for roadside assistance" he admitted
"You guys take my truck, I'll wait" Heath informed us
"Are you sure?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow at his brother
"Go and be with your wife and little girl" he proclaimed, handing Brax his keys
Slapping him on the back, he hurried over to the truck and climbed into the driver's seat, starting the engine, driving away and back to the Bay…
So I bet you never expected that, did you? Any ideas for names?
