Chapter 83

"We have some news." Sirius said, looking straight at Loralei who was standing beside him. He was holding Harry now, who looked very small in his large arms.

"What is this news?" Lily asked, sitting on James' lap on a chair in their living room. "Don't tell me you guys got married without us."

Loralei laughed. "We didn't."

"It's better." Sirius stated.

"I'm pregnant." Loralei told them.

They all looked at each other a moment, before rushing the expecting couple.

"When?" Lily asked. "My son is getting a cousin!"

"I'm going to be an uncle?" James asked.

"I'm going to be an uncle again!" Remus cheered.

Loralei laughed. "Not until next year. My due date is April twenty-sixth."

"Well they said Harry was going to be August second, so that's not always true." Lily squealed. "You're having a spring baby."

"Yes, and she will have the best features of her mother and father!" Loralei laughed.

"It's a girl?" Lily asked.

Loralei paused. "I don't know, it just sort of came out. We don't want to know until the little one comes out."

"Start the betting pool, lads!" Sirius told them. "Will baby Black be a girl or boy?"

"Are you guys getting married?" James asked abruptly. "I mean, you did knock up my sister."

Sirius opened his mouth to speak, and then chose to close it, stepping back and waving Loralei forward to answer for him.

Loralei took a deep breath. "Loralei needs no man to run her life. She will remain unmarried until the war is over. Then we'll run down to the Ministry and get the papers signed and then go on vacation somewhere."

"That's no fun." Lily pouted. "The best part of weddings is going to them!"

Loralei laughed. "Sorry. I'd rather spend my money on a trip than a party, but that's just me."

"I don't know, parties are fun." Sirius elbowed her.

"Fine, we'll have a reception or something." Loralei said, giving in. "But it's not going to be a huge affair."

Lily sighed. "It's better than nothing."

"Good." Loralei smiled. "Now, let's focus on this little bundle of joy." She ran her finger over Harry's chubby cheek lightly. "You are a bundle of joy! Yes you are!"

"No baby-talk to the kid." James said. "Come on, he deserves more respect than that."

"It's called baby-talk for a reason. He is a baby. I will talk to him like a baby." Loralei announced. "Not even his father can stop me. You, my dear, are still a recruit. I, however, am a full fledged auror."

James rolled his eyes, and Lily decided to switch the subject back onto Loralei.

"Have you told Katie about the little child on its way?" Lily asked.

Loralei shook her head. "No, she's at Hogwarts for the beginning of term, and they asked me to come up to help her. It shouldn't be too bad. Checking kids off a list as they come in, then we're going to spend the night at The Three Broomsticks, and then come home."

"The partners back together again." Sirius joked.

Loralei smiled. "It's about time too. She's going to be furious that she wasn't told with the rest of you."

"I doubt it." Lily stated. "More like she's going to call dibs on being the first non-blood related person to the baby to hold the kid."

Loralei laughed. "That and she'll want to be godmother."

"Then what do I get to be?" Lily asked.

Loralei looked at her sister-in-law, Confused. Her mouth slightly open and her eyebrows furrowed. "The kids aunt maybe?"

A look of surprise crossed Lily's face before settling back into a smile. "Yeah, that sounds about right."

Check. "Thank you. Next."

"Jordan Grewitt"

Check. "Thank you. Next."

"Catherine Zane."

Check. "Thank you."

Loralei looked to Katie. "My list is done."

"Mine too." Katie said. "So now we lock up on our way out."

"Sounds good to me." Loralei agreed. "Passing out sounds really good right about now."

Katie laughed. "Sirius keep you up late last night?"

Loralei rolled her eyes. "Not in the way you think."

"Ooh? Is it story time for me?" Katie asked.

"I'll tell you when we grab some dinner." Loralei told her. "It's a great story."

"Can it be take out from somewhere though? I mostly just want to lounge around. I can't tell you how much I hate going through all the secret passageways and having to check them out. I didn't close any of them to get off, because they'd be great to have if they were attacked, but I had to make sure there was no evidence of anything and mostly it's just walking around." She rolled her eyes. "I'll tell McGonagall we're through and you can get your stuff and we can go to Hogsmeade."

Loralei smiled. "Perfect."

An hour later they were in their hotel room with food spread out on a little table by a window.

"I didn't know there was a Chinese place in Hogsmeade." Katie mentioned, before stuffing a piece of chicken in her mouth.

"Mm-hm." Loralei nodded before swallowing. "Sirius and I found it one day. It's pretty good, right?"

Katie nodded. "Yeah." She paused, playing with some rice with her fork before looking up at Loralei. "So...what's the news?"

"Well, you know how whenever an auror gets pregnant they sort of get put on desk duty?"

"You've been pregnant all year?" Katie asked, rolling her eyes. "I had no idea."

Loralei laughed. "No. I've just been pregnant for the last month."

She should have probably been more careful about when she said this, because during this. Katie was taking a sip of her drink, and she started coughing.

"What? You didn't tell me?!" Katie said between coughs before she jumped out of her chair and hugged Loralei. "Boy or girl? Got a name yet? Will I be godmother?"

Loralei laughed. "The others said you were going to say that."

"Everyone else already knows?" She asked, shaking her head as she pulled away. "No fair."

"And we don't know the sex yet." Loralei told her. "But so far the baby is healthy as far as they can tell."

Katie smiled. "So I take it you're not going to be drinking for a while then."

Loralei shook her head. "Nope."

"I have something to tell you." Sirius said seriously the moment Loralei walked through the door of the mansion.

Loralei looked at him a moment before dropping her bag off her shoulder. "And what is that? What can happen in one day?"

"James and Lily are in hiding."
