Chapter 85

The rain pounded on the window pane and roof as Loralei was alone one evening when there was a knock on the door, a very odd thing for her to hear. Her friends would just come in. Loralei calmly pulled out her wand before seeing who was at the door. It was Tessa. Remus' girlfriend.

Loralei let her in. "Has something happened to Remus?"

"No...I just..." Tessa said. "Remus is a werewolf."

Loralei sighed as she closed the door. "He told you."

Tessa nodded. "You know? And you still let him near you? Near your child?"

Loralei tilted her head to the side. She was preparing for a fight. "Of course. He's a wolf once a month, not every moment of every day."

"But he's..."

Loralei put her hands on her hips. "I understand that you're surprised, but think wisely before you say something. He is more forgiving than me."

"He's a monster." Tessa said. "Why do you let him live here? You could get it. Your baby could get it."

"Say one more word. Please." Loralei told her. "Make my day. I have all this aggression that wants to come out and if you give me an outlet, that would be great."

"So you're going to associate with him? You're a Potter!"

Loralei pulled back her hand and slapped her across the face, the sound echoed through the house. "Right now I am wondering why I am associating with you. I take it you dumped him."

"Of course I did!"

"Then get the FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE!" Loralei yelled the last five words, throwing the door open and pushed her out of it, into the rain and slammed the door behind her.

Loralei looked at the clock. Remus would be back from work in about ten minutes. She thought she better get the ice cream out to warm up.

Loralei couldn't believe some people. She couldn't believe that some people were so shallow. She was pregnant and unmarried, would Tessa damn her as well?

Ten minutes went by quickly and Remus still wasn't home. Ten more and Loralei put the ice cream away. An hour later she started to get worried. Three hours later she was looking for her coat to go out and look for him.

That was when the door opened and two men stumbled inside. One her best friend-that she could still talk to-and the other, the man who broke up with her and left her alone for four months. Remus crumbled on the floor in a drunk state. She froze in shock before pushing all her feelings away. Turning it off.

"What have you done to him?" Loralei asked, rushing to her friend's side.

"Tessa broke-"

"Up with him, I know." Loralei said, not wanting to spend a moment longer with him than she had to. "She showed up here."

"I hope you cursed that bitch." Sirius told her, though his eyes were on her slightly showing baby bump.

Loralei kneeled down to help Remus to his feet. "Come on, love, let's get you to the couch."

"I can do that." Sirius picked him up by his other arm. "You shouldn't exert yourself."

"I'm pregnant, not a cripple." Loralei snapped at him, letting a little of her anger at him go. "I can handle him. Go back to wherever you came."

"Look, Loralei, I'm just trying to help." He told her as they worked together to get Remus onto the couch.

Loralei brought a bowl next to the couch so if he puked he would hopefully aim for it. She would have to. She had been ignoring Sirius since they got Remus to the couch.

"Why are you still here?" Loralei asked.

"Don't you think we need to talk?" Loralei could tell by his voice that he was a little tipsy as well.

"Not right now, Sirius." Loralei stated. "The time for talking has past. It's been months."

"I wanted you to cool off." Sirius said. "See things from my side."

"I see things perfectly." Loralei replied, her voice in a monotone. "It is you who do not see my side. It is you who does not want to be a parent."

"I want to be a parent. I want this child." He told her.

"Then where the fuck have you been?" Loralei's voice became angrier with every word he said. "I know Remus has been telling you about the baby from afar, but I'm the kid's mother. I'm with the baby every day. You are not the father. You have not been anywhere near here. You have not bought one thing for the baby. I had to do that on my own."

"Because you didn't want me to stay."

"No. I asked you to be a father. To put your child first, and you didn't. There is nothing else to say. I'm never going to make you be a father. I don't need you to be one." But that didn't mean she didn't want him to be one. "My ultimatum is still there." Loralei stood. "You should go back to wherever you're staying. You made your choice. I made mine. It is done." She walked towards the stairs before going up them.

"It will never be done." Sirius said. "I still love you."

Loralei stopped and closed her eyes before she resumed walking for the stairs. "That's not enough."

"What are the names you're thinking of?" Katie asked Loralei as they got lunch the next day. Loralei hadn't told her about Sirius' visit to the house. She didn't know how she felt about it yet.

"I don't know yet. I was thinking Rayna...or Snow." Loralei told her.

Katie smiled. "Snow if she's blonde, Rayna if she's brunette?" She asked. "Or do you want your daughter to look like that muggle fairy tale? Snow Winter? What was it called?"

"Snow White." Loralei told her. "No. I want her to be her own person. She doesn't need bad influences of eating a poisoned apple."

Katie tilted her head to the side in confusion. "Huh?"

Loralei laughed and shook her head. "Never mind. Let's just leave it at that."

Katie nodded. "Okay then."

"You get a muggleborn friend. Then you'll get the references." Loralei stated.

"I believe my muggleborn friend is a bit more than just a friend. I used to have another one, but she disappeared without a trace." Katie stated.

"Trust me, I know." Loralei frowned.

"So you found out the baby is a girl?" Katie asked.

Loralei paused. "No. I just have a feeling."

"Have you thought about who you want at the birth?" Katie asked.

"Well, I would love to have Sirius be there, but that's not going to happen until he chooses us. I think I want Molly there. She's been through it before." She paused. "I'd like you to be there after the baby is here."

Katie smiled. "I would be honored." She nodded. "If Sirius wasn't so loyal, he'd choose you, but then again. He's loyal to your brother too. I guess more than he is to you. I'm sorry, Lore."

Loralei smiled sadly. "It doesn't matter. He didn't choose us so he doesn't get us. He chose. He can't have it both ways."

"I think it's killing him." Katie told her. "He's been trying to get me to tell him what's going on with you."

"What did you say?"

"That if he wanted to know he would ask you himself." Katie told her. "Sirius has his loyalties. I have mine. I choose you, Loralei."

That made Loralei want to cry. She hadn't been chosen over someone else in a long time.

"I have to go." Remus told Loralei a couple days later.

Loralei looked up, surprised. "Why?"

"If you ever came to the Order meetings you would know." He told her. "I'm going to the Nordic Mountains to get into a werewolf pack. Get information about Voldemort through them."

All she heard was that he was leaving her. This big house all to herself. She would be alone. She also knew she couldn't make him feel bad about it.

"Okay. Be safe."

From the look in his eyes, he knew how much he had hurt her with what he was doing. But he already agreed. He would leave her on her own. He had to. To make this place safer for Loralei and her baby. He also didn't want to tell her that he was fired from St. Mungo's for being a werewolf. That was not her cross to bear.

"When do you leave?" She called when he started walking away.

"Saturday."

Loralei was nervous for the answer to the question she had to ask. She couldn't be alone. She would go mad.

"Can I move in with you guys?" She asked.
