"I can't be alone through this. I can pay rent. I can add onto your house. You guys get more money, I get a place to live that isn't so big and empty." Loralei said. "Please."

They looked at each other again.

"We're going to have to talk about it." Arthur told her.

"I understand." Loralei said. "Take as long as you need."

Loralei wasn't doing much one day, going through paperwork of incidents Aurors had to be called in on when she first felt her baby kick. At first she didn't know that the bay was kicking. It was very light, and very weird.

Loralei's hand found her stomach. "Merlin." She whispered. She could feel the baby's foot on her hand as the baby kicked again. Loralei sat back in her chair and closed her eyes, wanting to get used to the feeling. She should it would be around at least for another five months.

Chirstmas was approaching, and she would be spending it moving in with the Weasley's. For more reasons than helping Loralei out. First, Loralei was an auror, she was a trained fighter, and she could teach both Molly and Arthur how to fight better. There would always be a babysitter for if Loralei wanted to go out, or if Molly and/or Arthur wanted to go out. The rent money would help with their finances. It was a win for all parties involved.

Loralei was bringing her stuff over that evening to begin moving in. The weekend before, she had added onto their house, building up the Weasley's house. They decided that the nursery would be for both Ron, and Loralei's baby. They would just add another crib.

Loralei had somewhere to be for Christmas since nearly everyone else was gone from her life. Remus hadn't sent word since he left, which worried her, but there was nothing she could do. She was helpless. She was always helpless now.

But she could protect her baby.

The seers in the Veela village told her she would have to put the thing she loved most above all. She loved her child. More than anything.

Loralei left her job and brought some more of her things over the the Weasley's.

"Have a good day?" Molly asked as Loralei walked in. She already had a key.

"Normal. Nothing big happened today." Loralei told her. "I'm just going to run these things up to my room." She gestured to the trunk she had levitating in front of her.

"Okay. Staying for dinner?" Molly asked.

"I'd love to." Loralei said as she walked towards the stairs. Loralei's had the topmost floor. There were two bedrooms and one bath. So when Loralei's child grew up, they could have their own room. She put away her things in the furniture she already had there before going back down stairs and helping Molly make dinner.

"I felt the baby kick today." Loralei told her friend.

"How did that feel?" Molly asked. "Pretty freaky right?"

Loralei laughed as she nodded. "Yes. I don't even know how to describe it. It was so weird."

Molly laughed. "Been there. You get used to it."

"Really?"

"Really."

Christmas was a small affair. Nothing special happened besides Loralei shutting down the Potter Mansion and her completely moving in with the Weasley's. And they moved into the new year easily with only a few Death Eater attacks. None of which Loralei was told of until after the fact since she was off active duty. It drove her crazy sometimes.

Time moved quickly and slowly at the same time as the days passed. Loralei rarely saw Sirius, but when she did he would greet her with a nod that she returned. That was their relationship now. A nod every few days. It was hard to think that they were going to start a family not a year ago. Now it was just a nod. Just a nod.

She didn't have time to let her heart break, so she just pushed her sadness aside. She turned it off. Feeling nothing was better than feeling something bad. She had learned that before.

When she was nearing the birth, Sirius walked into her office.

"Can I help you?" She asked, not looking up from a resumé. They were about to bring in new recruits from wizarding schools, and she was just the first person to look at them. There was a stack from all around Europe and even the Americas. Seems people wanted to help with their Death Eater and Voldemort problem.

"Are you going to let me be in our child's life?" He asked.

"My child." Loralei corrected, softly.

"What?" He asked, he didn't hear her.

Loralei looked up at him. "It's my child. You have had nothing to do with the baby since you left, so it's my child. You lost the privilege of being the father."

His face dropped. "You can't do that."

"I can. You have another family to take care of, Sirius. You chose that family. I'm choosing mine. You will put my child in danger if someone found out who you protect." Loralei said this like they were talking about a new law. No emotions. Just a statement of facts. "We both know that the court will choose my side. Sexism works in my favor in this case."

"So I can't see the kid at all?" He asked. "You're just taking this away from me?" He leaned over her desk to get close to her face.

"You took it away from yourself." Loralei replied simply. "I'm not doing this to piss you off, no matter what you believe. I'm doing this so my kid doesn't get caught in the crossfire when they eventually find out that you're the secret keeper and you get killed."

"I'm not going to die."

"It has nothing to do with pure will, Sirius." Loralei sighed. "You can't choose if you live or die. No one can. You also can't choose who leaves you. Or who stays around."

"Are you saying I left you?" He asked.

"Not only you." Loralei stated. "My brother did. His wife did. I'm not even allowed to see them because you won't tell me where they are. Remus left after that bitch Tessa made him feel worthless. I have the Weasley's. I have Katie. I'm going to be fine and my baby will have six big brothers to grow up with." Loralei slowly stood from her office chair. She looked like she was about to pop. One hand was on her desk and the other on her back, helping her stand.

"But the kid won't have a father."

"When you are out of danger, you can see my child. Until then, I won't let her go through that heartbreak." Loralei told him.

"Don't you think a kid needs a father figure?"

"Oh, my child will have one. Arthur will be one. Remus when he returns. There is nothing wrong with not growing up with a father. I just won't let my child love someone who will probably taken away from them." She lifted a stack of resumés that did not make her cut, and put them on a shelf behind her desk. She paused with her back to him.

"Are you protecting the child or yourself?" Sirius replied.

"Sirius." Her voice sounded on the verge of panic.

"Answer me."

"Sirius." She said again, turning, panic evident in her eyes. "The baby is coming."

"Don't leave." Loralei begged him as another contraction made her squeeze his hand. She let herself need him in this moment. She knew she needed him. He was the only one she trusted enough to let him hold her hand through this. "Please."

"Never." He swore.

On April 6th at seven in the morning, Loralei and Sirius' baby was born. A small baby born two weeks early, but perfectly healthy. A girl. A beautiful baby girl. Named Snow Rose Vale.

"We keep her hidden from prying eyes." Loralei told him. "Hide her with a name no one will know."

"Until everyone is safe." He agreed, touching his daughter's chubby cheek. He was sitting on the bed beside Loralei. It was amazing how a child could bring people back together. "You'll let me have her?"

"I will let you come over, but don't let anyone know." Loralei sighed. "Not that much of a compromise, but I can't risk her so they can get to you."

"I don't want you to." He told her, kissing the side of her head. "Look what we did."

Loralei smiled. "She's going to be a heartbreaker."

"Just like her mother." Sirius stated.

"Just like her father." Loralei countered.

"Any boy comes near her and I'll kill him."

"She needs to have some fun, Sirius." Loralei told him.

"Oh, she can have fun, but not with any boys." Sirius said. "All they do is fuck things up."

"Don't curse." Loralei told him. "I know they do. But they can be nice to have around too."

"When?" He asked.

"I'm happy you're here." Loralei said softly, looking up from Snow's face.

"I'm happy I could be here."
