"I don't want to go in."
The home that once brought her warmth and safety know looked like the grounds of an upcoming war. Everything about it just yelled battle, and Amber hadn't even included the three cars parked in the driveway. The Blue Honda belonged to her step-dad Oscar as well as her mother, the red ford truck belonged to her brother Juan, and the Black Toyota belonged to her sister. Everyone had gathered at their mother's home and were awaiting the arrival of Amber, the reason this urgent family meeting had been called upon. A rare occurrence in the Jimenez household, since everyone mostly had their own lives to live.
Amber had barely gotten the chance to change into something comfortable before her mother had threatened to go over there herself. She had taken of her dress and yanked on a pair of light blue skinny jeans with slits on her thighs, a pair of jeans that in a couple of weeks would no longer fit her. A pair of white flats that had a black bow on the front of the shoe and had yanked on a White form fitting tank and over it had put on Dean's Shield Hoody, the zip-up one.
Dean looked over at her, her boyfriend having changed as well he was wearing just a simple Grey shirt, Casual jeans, and Black converse. He reached for her hand and squeezed it in reassurance, giving her a smile, before he leaned back into his chair.
"If it makes you feel better, there's a better percent chance that they'll kill me first." Amber rolled her eyes making him chuckle as he turned off the engine of her jeep, tossing the keys aimlessly into one of the car cup holders. The same one which held his cigarette pack, which was completely full.
"That doesn't make me feel any better." She grumbled climbing out of the car and reluctantly closing the door behind her. She breathed in the fresh air and looked up at the sky, the blues mixing with the yellows and oranges of the just barely setting sun. Dean walked around the car and leaned against it, spinning the pair of keys on his index finger.
"Do you want me to go in with you or wait a few minutes?" Amber looked at him and thought for a second, knowing that if she were to walk in with him, they would instantly know why she was leaving in the first place or be suspicious.
"I'll go in first, then five minutes after you do." Dean smirked and pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips, then pulling out the grey lighter that Amber had gotten him for his birthday. He affectionately touched her hair, feeling the strands slip through his fingers, before smiling at her.
"Yes, Sir."
"It's Ma'am." She smiled taking a few more moments to enjoy the feel of his hand on her hair and the smile he was giving her before walking around the car and towards the home she had once stayed for all her life. The faint scent of smoke reaching her from behind the car where Dean was standing. She walked slowly and cautiously towards the front door, not exactly sure if her mother would throw open the door in any minute. She climbed the steps and knocked a few times before stepping back. A couple seconds later the door opened her brother standing in the entrance, wearing a baseball cap and jersey of the dodgers. Her brother's eyes scanned her once trying to check for any signs of why she had decided to leave but when he found known he just fixed his cap and smiled mischievously at her.
"You are in trouble."
"I know." She said groaning which brought a smile to his face as he moved aside allowing her entrance into the home. Her eyes looking around in paranoia before entering the small hallway that connected the outside and kitchen.
"Where's mom?" she asked sticking her hands into the pocket of her jeans, her brother smirking at her nervous antics.
"In the living room with everyone." He said looking at his thumbnail.
"By everyone you mean…"
"I mean Mari, Dad, and Mayra." She sighed and nodded, fixing her hoody, and pulling it down a bit more.
"Dean here?" Juan asked looking at Amber, his eyes falling on the Hoody she was wearing. Clear evidence that Dean must be close behind.
"Yeah, he's outside taking a smoke."
"I'll be back then just don't die before I come back, alright?" He chuckles lightly and she rolls her eyes smiling a bit out of her nervousness.
He ruffles her hair and walks out, casting one final glance at her before walking out of sight. Amber walks through the kitchen and stands in the archway leading to the living room. Her Mom, Dad, Sister, and Sister in Law were sitting in the couches. Her mom talking hurriedly to her Dad while Mayra and Mari both were on their phones showing each other some images or maybe some messages who knew. She bites her lip for what seems like the Thousandths time and winces as she feels the rawness of her lip. She takes a deep breath before deciding to let her presence be known.
"Hey." She says as she steps into the room, the talking stopping and her mothers' eyes instantly landing on her. Her mother stands rapidly and her anger is evident. Her eyes once a warm brown are now like blazing fires directed straight at her.
"Are you kidding me right now? You leave the WWE without telling anyone anything and all you have to say for yourself is Hey?" She says outraged, crossing her arms on her chest. Oscar stands up as well placing a hand on her mother's shoulder.
"Maria-" Her mother rips herself away from it, glaring at the older male.
"Don't Maria me, Oscar; you are just as upset as I am that she didn't tell you anything. That she didn't trust enough to let us know what she was planning to do." Her mom looks at her again and walks over to her,
"Why didn't you tell me anything?"
"Mom it happened fast, I wasn't-"
"Don't Lie Amber. I know you, you couldn't have just made this decision in the blink of an eye. You had to have thought it over more than once, hell that's what you do to every decision. You think it over to many times to be honest." Amber curses inside her head, knowing that she should remember who she is talking to. After all she is talking to the woman who used to call her, her open book.
"And what's this about a medical issue?" Her blood freezes and her eyes look at her mother, who stares at her in confusion.
"You haven't wrestled in more than three months what type of medical condition can you have? And how could you have kept it a secret from us for so long. You usually always tell us when you have an injury even the most minor. Like that one time you sprained your ankle and said you were going to die? There should be no other reason you can't wrestle-" Her voice abruptly cuts off and she stares at her. Her eyes showing the realization as it dawn on her, the click as everything comes together almost audible.
"Oh No… Amber, No." Amber looks down at the ground. Her heart quickening the pace as she realizes her mother has finally figured it out.
"Yeah Mom... I am, that's why I haven't wrestled." Her mother grabs her own curly hair and turns giving Amber her back while her Dad, Mayra, and Mari stare in confusion. None of them understanding the conversation between mother and daughter.
"What? What are you guys talking about?" Says Mayra standing.
"Yeah, what are you guys talking about? We just don't get it." Mari says looking between her mother in law and sister in law. One of them looking devastated while the other looks just plain fearful.
"She's pregnant." Juan says coming into the living room with Dean behind him. The room quiets instantly and Juan walks over to Mari. While Dean walks over to her a sudden random thought popping into her mind as she stares at her Brother and Mari. She realizes just how close her and Dean have gotten almost to the point where like Juan and his wife they maneuver around each other almost like magnets, almost like they were one person. Maybe it was the kids that they had, had together. Maybe they would be like that when they would have their baby. She is snapped out of her thoughts when her sister squeals and hurriedly crosses the room to stand in front of her. "Oh My God! How far along are you!" She asks joy on her face as she clasps her hands together making Amber smile.
"I'm about 3 months, 3 months and a half." Her Dad is the next to snap out of his trance and walks over to her, he smiles at the two and looks at Amber,
"Congratulations Honey, I am so happy for you." He looks over at Dean and looks down at the hand that is firmly wrapped around Amber's waist. "I am taking it you are the father, Ambrose?" Dean nods his head. "Yeah." He answers while scratching the back of his neck with his free hand. Juan and Mari walk over to them,
"Like I said outside, welcome to the family white boy." Juan says smiling,
"Amber welcome to the mother club." Mari adds and pats her younger sister in law on the shoulder. Oscar, Juan, and Mayra smiling while Amber is watching cautiously her mother's small frame which is beginning to shake. Suddenly her mother snaps back to reality her head turning towards them, a look of anger on her face.
"Do you not understand what this mean?! Amber cannot wrestle anymore, she can't do what she wanted to do! She can't accomplish her dreams. She can't accomplish the dreams she has worked so hard to accomplish and succeed at!" Amber stares at her and shakes her head,
"Mom, I did. I got to the WWE, I won the Divas Championship, and I left the best way I could."
"No! You were supposed to be in the WWE longer, you were supposed to marry a nice young man, and then settle down to raise your children together!" She cried, Dean staring at her while Amber was getting confused minute by minute. She looks over at Dean who has a blank look, clearly hiding any emotion and any feeling he is currently dealing with. Amber turns to her mother her eyebrows furrowing.
"What?"
"Maria, leave them alone they are happy-" Oscar begins Amber realizing that he knows what she wants to say, but her mother cuts him off.
"Shut Up Oscar! I am sick and tired of hearing you! Amber I don't want you to have this child! No! You will not have this child!" Amber felt like the wind had been knocked out of her, but instead of crying she could feel the anger coursing through her veins.
"That isn't your choice Mom. I am having this child. I don't know what your issue is but you don't have a say in our baby's life. It took two people to create this child and it takes two people to decide for him or her. I don't know why you have an issue with this!?"
"My issue is that all that is going to happen is that you are going to become a single mom. Dean is going to be gone all the time and all your child is going to see is you! You are going to be the one who is going to have to work and the one that will have to raise this child on your own! He is going to be on the road and he is going to be around all those girls and he is going to forget all about you!" She roared and Amber lost it.
"I don't know who the fuck you think Dean is but I know he loves me! The only problem you have with me is that the man I truly love, loves me back. While my dad Steve abandoned you, He abandoned you because he didn't love you and loved another woman!"
Her mother raised her hand and Amber shut her eyes but all she heard was the smack, she didn't feel it, just heard it her eyes opened when she heard the gasps. Her eyes opened and the only thing she saw in her line of vision was grey. Dean was standing in front of her, his body tense and slightly hunched forward glaring down at her mother. Amber tried to turn him around but he wouldn't allow it.
"Mom!" Yelled Mayra as she grabbed the older woman whose mouth was open in shock of what she had done. Her eyes wide as she stared at Dean. Amber tugged at him again this time he didn't stop her just turned. Amber gasped as she spotted the red handprint that took up most of his cheek. She stood up on her tip toes and gently pressed on his cheek, instantly noticing the way he winced.
"Dean are you okay? Does it hurt really badly?" Amber gently caressed his cheek looking into his eyes, Dean smiled. "I've taken a few slaps, and another one doesn't make a difference." Amber smiled a hint of guilt and blame in her eyes as she kissed him gently. She tried to turn but was stopped. "Hey," He grabbed her hand as she was about to turn.
"Don't blame yourself, okay?" He whispered placing a gentle kiss on her forehead, the smell of cigarettes and mint filling her senses instantly calming her. Amber smiled, nodding, and turned just as her mother began a new tirade of angry yells and screams all directed at one person. Oscar.
"I'm done with you Oscar! This is all you ever do, all you do is get involved in things that don't matter or fucking concern you! Let me deal with my own business for once!" She screamed, Amber caught a glimpse of her step dad's face and knew his patience that was quiet long snapped and had worn out for his mother, something that had never occurred.
"No, I'm done with you Maria. I'm done with you hurting our children. You have unresolved issues that I have tried to help you with but you have to see the destruction you are causing. You are no longer hurting yourself but your beginning to hurt your children's future, especially our daughters."
"She isn't your Daughter!" She screamed at Oscar, Amber seeing a hint of movement and moving her gaze away from her parents seeing that Juan was handing Dean an Ice pack which Dean took, instantly pressing it to his cheek.
"He raised me just like you. He is my dad." Amber protested, standing next to Oscar, who looked down at her.
"Steve is your Dad! And just you wait till he finds out-"
"He already knows." Dean answered standing next to Amber, holding the ice pack in his other hand, while with his left he intertwined their fingers Amber looking down at them.
The smirk on her mother's face disappeared as she stared in disbelief at her.
"Yes Mom, he was the first person we told and he was happy for us. It seems you and he switched places. He started off hurting us but he is slowly fixing all the wrong he did, while you. You are slowly destroying our relationship and all the ones around you. I don't understand why you're doing it but-but I'm just tired of this."
Amber felt her resolve break and turned just as the first tear ran down her cheek. She walked quickly outside and sat down on the step of the home hiding her face in the palms of her hands. It seemed that her life would always be this way, she would always have one parent in her life, and it was either Steve or her mom. What she hadn't been expecting at all was her mother's reaction. Her mother had always been the type of mom whose wish was to have grandchildren surrounding her. She had let Amber know on more than one occasion that she wanted her to have a child with the person she loved. Well she was and know her mother didn't like it because he was a wrestler? She was being such a god damn hypocrite. She felt someone sit beside her and looked up to see Oscar, whose face was stoic. He didn't say anything just looked up at the sky, and after some time a small smile graced upon his face.
"Ya know, I always knew someday you and her would fight." He said quietly shaking his head as he felt the short buzz cut he had recently gotten.
"Yeah, I kind of did to." She said honestly, but it didn't stop her from getting choked up.
"We had been planning on getting a divorce as well. I guess I always knew she had fallen in love with Steve, I was just in denial. Guess when you love someone you accept them no matter their flaws, even though those flaws will be the end of your relationship." He looked over at her and the sadness and pain in his eyes made Amber's heart break. He loved her mother, so much that he was willing to let her go.
"Oh Dad." She sighed leaning her head on his shoulder. Oscar resting his arm on her shoulder as he rubbed her arm gently in comfort as they stared at the sky. The sun setting slowly, ending yet another day.
"I'm happy about your pregnancy ya know. You always were motherly with the girls and junior."
"Yeah, it's strange though it still hasn't exactly set in that I'm expecting. All I feel is that I am extremely bloated." They both laughed and turned to the sky yet again as the sun finally hid behind the buildings of LA.
"Are you going to stay here, in LA or are you moving to Santa Barbara?" She asked knowing that was where most of her Step-Dad's family resided.
"Probably, I'll just stay here a couple months till the divorce papers are finalized and after your baby is born. About a month or two later I'll move. Just know that no matter what my doors will always be open." Amber nodded and looked up as Dean walked out the mark on his cheek even redder. The ice pack gone from his possession, Dean probably having thrown it away.
"We better go." He said extending his hand to Amber who stood up.
"I'll see ya later Dad." She said hugging Oscar. Amber hugging him tightly, knowing that if she let go, she'd realize that this was all really happening.
"Take care of yourself." He whispered in her ear before releasing her. "And take care of that baby as well." Amber nodded and could feel a new batch of tears already forming in her eyes.
"I-I'll wait at the car." She croaked turning and walking off. Dean taking a step to begin to walk after her when Oscar, gripped his arm. Dean looking at the man.
"Take care of her. She may look like she's trying to hold it together but this hurts her deeper than she will admit. It will be some time before anything or any one of them tries to fix their relationship. Just stay by her side. For my sake do it, Jonathan." Ambrose looked into the eyes of a broken man and even though he could see the brokenness, he could still see the fire to protect and love his children. Dean nodded and shook the man's hand, "Of Course, I swear to you." Oscar nodded and Dean began to walk towards the car, Oscar watching him as he walked off before going back inside. As Dean was a couple of feet away from the car he unlocked it and Amber got in the minute the doors unlocked. Dean climbed in and started the engine, casting his eyes towards Amber who was sniffling, wiping her eyes with the sleeves of his sweater. They pulled out of the parking spot and began to drive, Amber quietly watching the houses, the homes she still remembered from her child hood. They had been driving a couple of minute when Amber finally turned around. Looking at Dean whose eyes were looking at the road but Amber knew better, she knew that in the corner of his eye he had been watching her the whole time.
"Dean?" She said her voice hoarse from crying.
"Yeah?" He said gently as he ran a hand through his hair.
"We should go visit your sister someday. Meet your niece." She gently said looking at the ring on her finger, the one Jon had gotten her. Dean glances over at her and smiles. "Yeah we should, she'd be glad to know that a babies on the way."
"Your sister or your niece?" She asks looking at him.
"Both." He says smiling. The car is once again filled with silence this time a comfortable one. Amber smiles and looks at Dean once again.
"Dean?"
"Hmm?"
"I love Jon Moxley, I love Dean Ambrose, I love Jonathan Good, and I love you."
Dean looks at Amber, a smile gracing his features, a crooked smile that Amber absolutely loves and one she knows is completely sincere. He stops at a red light, grabs her hand and kisses it gently specifically close to where the ring is. Amber's eye connect with his gray blue eyes which are looking deep into hers.
"I love you Amber, I love you Stone Cold Diva, I love you and I'll continue loving you forever." He says his voice husky at never using those words or showing this side of himself often.
Amber smiles, leans in, and looks at his lips, Dean taking the hint and leaning in as well. They kiss gently the kiss sending shivers down her spine and her hand comes up to gently lay on his red and hot cheek. She leans back after the kiss and moves her hand down his cheek, to his neck and then to lie on his shoulder. Dean not breaking eye contact with her as she moves her hand down. Amber smiles and lays her head on his shoulder where her hand is. Watching the road as he begins to drive down it. The both of them in complete happiness, their closeness making them feel complete. Even after everything that just occurred, it cannot stop the love that they feel. Amber watches as they begin the drive back to her home. She smiles and rubs his shoulder with her thumb, Dean moving his head a bit to the side to rest his cheek on her head. No, they were on their way back to their home.
A home which Amber had never thought she would share with someone, the same thing she thought about herself. Amber had slithered into Dean's heart breaking down his walls and allowing himself to be nice and gentle with someone without being considered weak. While Dean, even though he had forcible wrecked her walls down, had helped her see that the worst in people could be the most beautiful. That no matter what went on in their hectic lives they would still be there for each other. That no matter what pain they caused upon each other none of them would let the other down or let the other go. They were stuck with each other and to be quite honest with each other, they were grateful for that. Amber reached for Dean's phone and put the camera before she extended her arm the farthest it would go and took the photo. Smiling at the calmness and peacefulness on their faces. Dean looked at her raising his eyebrow,
"Thought you'd need a new picture of me, for when you're on the road." He smiles and kisses her head.
"We still have a couple of days to be together." She nods and snuggles contently into his side.
"Take a nap, Babe, we're almost home." And with that Amber smiled, liking the sound of home.
