A/N: Fall Break is finally here!
Chapter 16: I Wish You Were the One that Got Away
It was blurry at first. The room was covered in a soft orange glow and he could only make out blocks of dark colored objects around the room.
Sesshomaru rubbed at his eyes as he tried to shake the groggy feeling of cotton balls being stuffed in his ears. Why did he feel like complete shit?
Finally getting the room into focus, he sat up on the couch and looked around the room to see the sun's golden rays coloring the walls and furniture. Had he taken a nap? Taking a deep breath it felt like something was just- off. It was like something was wrong.
It was hard to place as the taiyoukai stood up, but after a moment he figured out what it was. He didn't hear an extra heart beat in the house. Kagome's heart beat.
Sesshomaru's eyes widened. "Kagome." Everything from that afternoon came rushing back in flashes of screaming voices and tear stained cheeks.
Where was Kagome? How long had he been out? Judging by the sun it had to have been three or four hours. Maybe even a day.
Scanning the room as he tried to find her scent, the dai-youkai caught sight of the slightly ajar front door. He took a step forward and stumbled slightly before walking forward once more.
Grabbing the handle, he pulled the door fully open and it wasn't hard for him to notice his missing vehicle.
His chest clench at the sound of his car horn blaring a mile or so away, and Sesshomaru held his breath as he fumbled down the steps on the pourch, still disoriented from the medication and walked to the end of the driveway.
Looking to his left where the blaring sound was coming from, the taiyoukai's sharp eyes spotted the black tire markings on the road before looking toward the dip off the side of road where he saw the end of his car sticking out at an odd angle.
A part of him hoped that is wasn't his car. And if it was, a part of him wished someone actually came out to the middle of no-where, stole, and crashed it by mistake. But no matter how stupid an excuse he came up with, Sesshomaru knew the truth.
As his racing thoughts began to die down, Sesshomaru realized he had ran over to the vehicle and paused by the trunk. He leaned against it as he processed what he might see while he took in the strong smell of blood around him.
Would she be dead? Would she even be in the front seat? If she wasn't wearing her seat belt, she might have went through the windshield. That thought made him grimace.
Slowly he walked to the driver side door as shards of glass crunched under his bare feet. He felt no pain from it though as his heartbeat pounded and he peered into the shattered window. Kagome's motionless body sat in the seat; her head drooped to the side facing him, revealing pale cheeks stained with blood.
A large gash was on her right temple and little cuts littered her body from where glass hit it.
Sesshomaru gave a tug on the door before ripping it open and reaching for the young woman in front of him. He ran his knuckles gently over her cheek before stopping at her pale lips. She wasn't breathing.
Closing his eyes, he listened closely for any indication of life from the girl then snapped his eyes open again at the sound of a faint heartbeat.
Sesshomaru huffed as he began to feel at her neck for any injuries while his inner beast howled with happiness that she wasn't dead. Yet. "Stubborn girl." He muttered half heartedly.
Slowly picking her up, he stood with Kagome in his arms before quickly dashing to the house with his demonic speed.
He rushed into his living room in a silver blur and began to place her body on the couch, but faulted at the deafening sound of nothing.
Why was it so quiet now? Slowly he looked down at the pale faced girl that fell limply onto the blue colored sofa.
"Kagome." It was barely a whisper as the name passed from his lips.
He couldn't hear it. The sound that reassured his beast, and himself, that their miko was still living. Sesshomaru forced himself from losing control as his beast merged to the surface. Wanting to kill everything yet nothing at the same time.
Standing quickly, He dashed into his bedroom and opened his closet doors in search of the one thing that could help him maybe keep his sanity. "Where the hell is it?" He snarled out loud. His tinted red eyes glowing dangerously as they landed on the object he sought.
Picking up his once worthless heirloom, Sesshomaru left back into the living and stood over his ebony haired obsession as he unsheathed his sword Tenseiga. The sword of Heaven.
'Please let this work.' He thought before bringing down the swords blade across her chest. Once. Twice and a third time before he stood, and waited a minute for something to happen, but as her body remained unmoving his lips pulled back in an enraged snarl. "Fuck!" His deafening roar boomed though the house as he flung his sword across the room the embed in the creamed colored wall.
Pebbles of sheet rock fell to the wood floors as Sesshomaru collapsed on his knees. His eyes and chest burned with an unknown feeling that he did not understand as he gazed at Kagome lifeless form.
He was a failure. He promised to keep her safe and a live until the two weeks were up, and now. She was gone. He didn't notice he was clenching his teeth too hard until a pearl white fang pierced his lower lip, but honestly he couldn't care as he lifted his mikos hand to his cheek.
Why did he feel like this? In all his centuries he had never felt as cold as he did now. The pain in his chest was greater than any flesh wound he had ever attained and as he held her delicate hand to his cheek a realization struck him.
"Puppy?" His breath hitched at the raspy sound as eyes shot down to the groggy eyed woman. "Why are you crying stupid." She mumbled as her closed once more slid closed and her finger twitched slightly against his cheek. Sesshomaru couldn't stop the bittersweet smile that graced his pale lips. She was alive. The sword had worked.
Her words registered a moment later. Crying? He frowned before tracing his finger tips slowly down his cheek with hers until the brushed against his lips.
His thoughts went back to his realization only moments ago as he continued to stare down at the face of his little blue eyed angel. He had finally fallen. Some how he had fallen for the tiny little miko who he had obsessed over for the last couple months. But honestly, as he stared down at her pale face and realized what this meant for her. He wished she was the one that got away.
A/N: So, I don't really have an excuse for why I haven't updated my stories. I guess I've just lost my motivation to write, but don't fret! I plan to complete this story and Puppies are NOT like Pups (for those who read it) by the end of the year. *Hears the horrified gasps* Yeahh. Not so good. BUT I finally figured out how to go about the next couple chapters so hopefully I'll be able to update quicker.
