A/N: Yay! I thought I'd give you guys another chapter to maybe help in forgiving me for my long absence.

Chapter 17: A Howling Pain

He had failed. Failed her. That one thought was all it took for him to make his decision.

Sitting on his bed, Sesshomaru dialed the all to familiar number into his phone and hit call. As the phone rang he listened to the soft breathing in the next room to calm his sporadic nerves before a deep voice finally picked up on the other end.

"Have you finally tired of your little game?"

Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed at the question, but he reminded himself to suck up his pride; for her.

"Meet me at midnight at Kyoto Cemetery. No sooner, no later. I think you can figure out the location." With that, he ended the call before his father could say another word. Sesshomaru sat there a minute, taking in fully what he had finally decided to do as he began to slowly stand.

His feet carried him to the room only feet away from his, stopping to lean against the doorway and stare at the girl quietly sleeping in her bed for the last time.

He had used a wet washcloth to clean off most of the blood on her body and, for his amusement, changed her out of her clothes into a set of pajamas that consisted of red plaid pants and a red tank top.

Sesshomaru pushed himself off the wall and walked over to Kagome, picking her up into his arms off the light blue comforter. He heard a small grown of protest from her before she quieted down and cuddled into his chest. God how he would miss her.

Walking into the living room, Sesshomaru waited for Jaken to come from the city with the extra car. He had called him over two hours ago, so he should be there soon. The imp was a nuisance, but was quick with accomplishing orders.

Brushing a stray black curl out of Kagome's face he heard a horn sound from outside. Right on time.

He had never let go of Kagome since he picked her up, and Sesshomaru didn't plan on doing so either as he walked to the door and opened it.

Jaken's jaw dropped at the sight of his Lord carrying a human wench, but thought better at saying something when Sesshomaru shot him a deathly glare. The taiyoukai settled himself in the leather clad backseat with Kagome in his arms and held her close to him as Jaken shut his door.

Sesshomaru didn't pay any mind after that to the imp. Instead he focused on Kagome's breathing and scent as the car began to move onto the main road. He didn't know how he would do it. This would probably be the hardest- no. This would be the hardest thing he'll ever possibly do in his existence.

As the trees they drove by became a blur of greens and browns, Sesshomaru's mind blurred into memories of the last couple days. But as Sesshomaru remembered the dream Kagome told him about, he stopped all thought process of her. He didn't want to remember her anymore after that. Let alone that thought, and the small moment he had hoped would have eventually been their future. But what was the point in imagining something that would never happen away...

It was completely dark outside and ten minutes til midnight by the time the small town car pulled in the cemetery and stopped to let Sesshomaru out. He stood slowly. Surveying the area for signs of his idiot brother or sire before coming to the conclusion they weren't there yet.

Reaching back in the car, Sesshomaru lifted Kagome out before closing the door with his side and taking off walking. He walked calmly, almost dragging his feet as he subconsciously walked down the isles of tomb stones before stopping at one at the far back by a tree.

Kagome groaned making him look down at her scrunched up face. She would be waking up again soon. She had did so in the car about half way there, but he had injected her with a small amount of his poison to keep her asleep awhile longer. He didn't want to fight with her the little time they had left together, and the awkward silence that might of came instead of fighting didn't seem pleasing either. So, he did the logical choice of poisoning her would suffice, not worried about it causing damage since her miko powers would fight against it.

Slowly placing her up against the old stone Sesshomaru glance up at the name carved into it as he situated Kagome.

Izyaoi Tashio

1789-1832

Beloved Mate and Mother of Two

Sesshomaru sneered. He had went into a rage when he had first read those words over a century ago. The words Mother of Two making his insides burn with hatred. She was never his mother. Why his father thought putting it on her grave stone would mean something to him, he didn't know. Maybe he did it just to spit him.

Turning his mind back to his mission, Sesshomaru looked down at Kagomes peaceful face as her head tilted to the side slightly as she shivered. Maybe putting her in a tank top wasn't a good idea. Being a Taiyoukai, the cold didn't bother him, but he knew how easy it was for such to chill a human,

Removing the black cotton hooded jacket he wore, Sesshomaru placed her arms through the holes and zipped it half way after noticing how big it was on her. Satisfied, he ran his fingers through her bangs longingly before standing as he heard a car coming in the distance.

His broad shoulders stood out and seemed more defined in the black long sleeved shirt he wore; the few strands of his silver hair that fell from his braid a huge contrast to the colors.

Staring a moment, Sesshomaru slowly bent back down to Kagome's level and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then her nose, and both her cheeks before stopping at her lips and brushing his against her own. He heard her deep intake of breath and her heart rate change as car lights appeared in the distance making Sesshomaru remove himself from her.

"Fluffy?" He was gone. No trace of him lingered as Kagomes eyes fluttered open, and she heard a slam from a car door a distance away.

"Kagome!" A gruff voiced yelled as she blinked in confusion. A silver blur dropped down in front of her a second later, bringing her startled form into his arms.

"Kagome are you okay? Did that bastard hurt you? I swear if he laid a hand on you, I'll-"

"Inuyasha?" She whispered. Not believing her eyes as the hanyou stared down at her concerned. Seeing an ear twitch in conformation, Kagome lunged herself at him. Making him fall onto his elbows as her arms wrapped around his neck. "I missed you!" She cried out as Inuyasha slowly wrapped his arms around her in turn. "Keh, you should after I spent the last five days trying to find your ass."

Hearing a throat clear after the comment, both teenagers looked over at the tall figure looming over them. The male looked even more God like in the moons glow as it shinned down on his towering form. His silver hair glowing and his long black trench coat making him look like the Angel of Death.

Kagome felt her heart leap a moment as the thought of Sesshomaru crossed her mind, but it quickly came crashing back down at the realization that it wasn't her fluffy taiyoukai.

"Inu-Papa." She whimpered quietly as a devastating ache crashed into her chest. Tears began to brim her eyes as the older Inu's golden ones softened. Inuyasha looked panic at the smell of salt coming from the girl before looking to his father for help.

Touga sighed at his youngest son and his lack of knowledge when dealing with women before crouching down and lifting Kagome into his arms as tears began rolling down her cheeks.

"Hush little one. Everything will be okay. You are safe now." The statement only seemed to upset her more though as he carried her to his car. The red SUV standing out considerably in the dark and gloomy place.

Touga placed her in the back set, narrowing his eyes with a growl as Inuyasha pushed him out of the way to get in next to her.

"Watch it Pup, or I will strap you to roof the rest of the drive home." He hissed slamming the the door closed before opening the driver's side door and getting in. HE quickly starting car and began drving back the way he came.

As he came up near the entrance to the cemetery, he finally looked into his mirror and sighed as he saw Inuyasha trying to get the dazed girls attention. He knew his son was smitten over the little miko, but now wasn't the time to hit on her and make his move.

Inuyasha didn't seem to mind asking her a million and one questions though. Even when Kagome ignored everyone of them in favor of staring out the window. Until one caught her attention.

"What are you wearing?" She frowned before flicking her gaze down to see herself wearing a large black jacket. She brushed her nose against the fabric of the shoulder absently, shrugging as she took in the familiar scent of pine and rain.

She barely registered the hanyou's nose wrinkle in disgust. "And why the hell does that thing smell so much like the asshole? Here. Give it to me and I'll through it out the window, so you don't smell like that bastard anymore."

At the sight of Inuyasha's approaching hand something inside Kagome suddenly snapped as his words finally processed in her brain. "NO! DON'T!" She screeched before kicking her leg out, her foot connecting into Inuyasha's side making him yelp.

Startled from the high pitched noise and the thud of his son his the side door, Touga swerved slightly on the road before correcting the car and glaring through the mirror. "Inuyasha," he growled, making sure to show his fangs, "leave her be."

The hanyou looked as if he were going to protest but gave a dismissive 'Keh' before leaning back into his seat. Deciding just to pout as he remembered his fathers earlier threat.

Touga was startled by Kagome's scream, but not nearly as startled as he was when, after his eyes turned back to the road, the sound of a long and painful howl rang out behind them in the distance. An Inu's howl, he noted in shock. A howl that was released at the loss of a mate.

A/N: So. Have you guys been thinking about how this might end? I've had a couple people tell me how they love the mystery of this story, but don't let this chapter fool you into thinking this plot has changed. I might just trick you at the end. ;D

Also, I know Kagome's a little panicky and weird here, but hey. The girl just died, was in a car accident, woke up in a cemetery... Can you blame her? But there is a reason (I think) why shes like that. I promise its not just because I want to turn her into a lunatic either. Even though that would be fun.
