Chapter 9: Stupid Feelings and a New Presence
Miyu POV
(A/N: Finally updating, really sorry. Had a writers block for a long time, but my best friend inspired me so I'm back and hopefully updated more frequently)
One year later...
I wake up to light shining through my window and smile. Yesterday Kid and I turned fourteen, and today is the day my father observes our training for the first time in a year. He seems so stressed lately, and I wonder why. Back to reality...
I throw the covers off my body, and sit up. I look around the comforting room, all the room is either black or pink. My bed is in the centre, with a night table on the right side. My bed is a four poster bed with black curtains. On the right wall is a wardrobe, with a mirror standing on the left side. On my left wall is my desk, which has my backpack draped across the chair and a computer on the desk surface. Various papers lie everywhere in my room, mostly filled with my thoughts.
Anyways, I finally get up. My pj's are discarded, I get dressed into my everyday clothes, and I go through my morning routine. My footsteps are loud as I walk to the kitchen and start breakfast, its my turn to make breakfast today. The frying pan was sizzling with bacon when the kitchen door slammed into the wall. Isamu walks in and gives me a hug, we have gotten really close since we became partners. Not dating, but best of friends. He slumps into a chair and rubs his eyes yawning.
"Long night?" I say, making eggs to suit the different people throughout the house.
"Read til about 3am, then I fell asleep. When will I learn to not do that?" Isamu sighed, and let his head fall into his arms on the table.
"I am going to take a shot in the dark and say...never?" I laughed at Isamu's glare at me, and turned back to the eggs. "What do you want your eggs like Isamu?"
"Sunny side up please."
I continued making breakfast, cutting strawberries for the pancakes, when I felt a weird presence in the corner of my mind. There is a little push from this, and then my legs collapse. Isamu catches me before I hit the floor, and I fight off the presence and focus on what he's saying.
"What was that, another attack?" He whispered.
"I think so..." I put my hand against my forehead, my head aching.
I should explain, I have been having these attacks for a while. Some unknown presence attempts to seize control of my mind, and I have to fight it off. Sometimes it succeeds, usually when I'm fighting someone, and Isamu has to help fight for the both of us. I will wake up to have drawn blood from someone, and Isamu looking at me in concern, my sparring partner is usually staring at me in fright.
"Miyu?" Isamu shakes me gently, and I jump up.
"Shit! The eggs!" I rush over and quickly flip them, just barely saving them from burning.
"You have an attack, and you worry about the food..." Isamu shake his head. "Should we tell your Dad about these?"
"No! I don't know what he would do! He has enough to worry about with my brother, I can't worry him more!"
"But, Miyu..."
"I know your worried, I understand, but I just can't upset my Dad more. You and I seem to be able to take on these attacks."
"Miyu, you can't just keep ignoring these, do you know what causes them?" Isamu asked concerned.
"Not exactly, it seems fighting someone triggers it, but that had nothing to do with fighting..." I said, finishing preparing breakfast.
The door slammed open for the second time just as Isamu opened his mouth. I gave him a pointed look, and he sighed. My brother rounded the corner, his weapon partners in tow.
Kid kissed me on the cheek, and then continued onto the dining room. As Isamu and I brought out the meal everyone else gathered. Kid sat at one head of the table, my father at the other. Patti sat to the right of Kid, and Liz to the left. On Liz's right side was Isamu, and I was on Patti's left side. Polite conversation erupted from different places at the table and I just stared at my food, picking at it and eating slowly.
What was I doing that caused that attack? I was cutting up...strawberries. Was it the knife? I don't know, whenever those attacks leave my mind, a lingering afterthought is left, and all it is...blood. I don't understand. Maybe I should talk to someone...but that someone will just turn around and tell my Dad.
"Miyu, hun? It's time to get ready for school!" My dad said, his enormous hand patting my shoulder. "You ok?"
"Oh yea! I'm fine!" I said quickly, running from the table.
I know he saw through my lie. My Dad was created for the sole purpose of dealing with life and death situations, and having a built in lie detector is a given. But I can't worry about that, I have school and fighting to worry about. Not to mention the attacks...
As I was thinking about this, laying on my bed, Isamu came in and began packing my stuff. He gazed at me concerned, and continued. I watched him help me, and then got up. I hugged him, and he went stiff, then relaxed into my arms. He was tall enough to lay his head on top of my head, while I rested my head on his chest. I spaced out again, and then Isamu shook me out of my trance gently. He threw my messenger bag over his shoulder, and his backpack on his back. He put his arm around my waist and led me down the stairs.
"Fake a smile if you don't want to answer any questions." Isamu whispered in my ear, and I immediately plastered one on my face.
We got to the top of the stairs and walked around the corner to the front door, where everyone, except Kid, was standing. It was late fall outside, rather cold, so everyone was wearing a coat except my Dad. Kid rounded the corner, muttering about how his partners aren't symmetrical with him. Patti and Liz had grown quite a bit since last year, Liz is now taller then Patti. Kid was obviously upset with that fact.
The doorbell rang and Liz opened it. Azusa stood outside, bouncing on her heels. I spied the coffee cup in her right hand and sighed. It's going to be that kind of day...
"Everyone ready for school?!" Azusa said excitedly, and grabbed Patti and Kid's hands.
"I guess so-" Kid started, but was cut off by being dragged out the door, Patti giggling and dragged after.
A large van was sitting outside, large enough for all of us. Lord Death jumped into the passenger seat, leaving us to the back. I sat in the middle seat, Isamu immediately taking my other side. Kid, Liz, and Patti piled into the very back.
"So is everyone excited?! We have two more people to pick up then we will be on our way!" Azusa said, taking a corner very sharply.
"Azusa, maybe you should lay off the coffee." Lord Death said as he was prying my hands off his shoulders, where I had clutched them in fear of the turn.
"What do you mean? Why?"
"You go a little crazy when your caffeinated."
"How am I different? This is my normal self, just more energetic!"
"Azusa, you go mental on coffee, end of story." Kid piped up from the back, and then hid his face in his arms.
"HEY LOOK! SPIRIT'S HOUSE!" Azusa shouted, and took the corner even more sharply, causing me to be thrown across Isamu's lap when my seat belt gave out.
Luckily, him and his ninja skill reflexes caught me, and set me properly back into my seat. Azusa jumped out the door and ran to the front door and knocked loudly. Little Maka opened the front door, with her Dad trailing happily behind. Azusa surprised him by tackle hugging him back into his house as Maka toddled out to the van. I opened the door and helped her into her car seat, Isamu had set it up in between us after the whole me-flying-into-his arms thing. I buckled her in, and she smiled up at me.
"Hi little Maka!"
"Hwi Mimi!" Maka replied and giggled.
"Why does she call you Mimi?" Isamu questioned, not used to seeing Maka interact with me. He's usually at his other classes when I'm with my Dad, after all, he is a year older then me.
"I think she can't pronounce the 'Yu' part of my name, and I just never corrected her." I said, glancing at the squealing toddler, who was getting tickled by my Dad.
I looked at Spirit's house to see him locking the front door, Azusa bouncing beside him. He whispered something quickly, and something flashed across Azusa's face, only to be gone again. She shook her head quickly, and grabbed Spirit's hand and ran to the van, smile stretched across her face. She ran to the car and opened the door, jumping in the drivers seat.
"Azusa, maybe I should drive..." Spirit suggested, standing outside the car.
"I am not that bad of a driver!" Azusa insisted, twitching.
"YES YOU ARE!" The whole van chorused, Maka giggling.
"Fine!" Azusa said, and slid over into the seat between the passenger and the driver.
Spirit slid into the drivers seat and took off at a more calm pace. The whole van gave a collective sigh of relief and Azusa pouted like a child. The rest of the drive was filled with laughter, and I joined in, trying to keep my mind off the spar I will be forced into today. Isamu reached across Maka and squeezed my shoulder in a comforting manner. Maka then grabbed his hand and began to play with it.
We arrived, and everyone piled out and went to their respective classrooms. Isamu kissed my forehead quickly and ran to class. Kid walked with me to our first class.
"Miyu, what's up?" Kid asked, out of the blue.
"Nothing! Why?" I answered, a tad defensively.
"Don't give me that! I know something is, the way Isamu and you always disappear when a fight begins. And your eyes betray you, they look troubled."
"Damn you for being so good at reading me."
"You're like an open book sis, anyone can. Now back on topic, whats the matter?" Kid said as he pulled me into a unused classroom, kicking the door shut.
"Nothing...much! At all I swear!" I answered.
"Don't give me that crap! Tell me! I am your twin, and always will be, no matter what!"
BRIIINNNGGG!
Thank my lucky stars..the school bell. I run away from Kid, ashamed that I could not tell him. I sit down in the front row beside another meister named, what was his name again...oh ya! Hiro! I hear the door bang open, and heavy footsteps. I look and see Kid, glaring at me. I hide back in my book and try to block him out. I hear him walk towards me, and stop suddenly.
"Move." He growls the word, and I hear Hiro hastily slide his chair back and move to one behind us.
Kid sits down, and turns to me.
"You have to tell me eventually." Those six words sent chills down my spine and I quickly turn back to my book.
I hear Kid sigh, turn around and say a few quick words to Hiro, apology most likely. He turns back, then opens his backpack and pulls out his notes and pen.
The lesson went by fast. I began to get really nervous as I went to the lunchroom, the sparring match was just after this. I opened the door, saw all my friends at a table, and backed out again quickly. I can't fake being happy for much longer. I ran down the hall, panic slowly overtaking me. I made it to an empty classroom in a haze. I shut the door, slid down it, my bag landing with a bang, and cried. What will happen? What if I hurt someone?
I tucked my knees up to my chest and sobbed as these questions ran through my head.
Dayna's POV
I looked up, checking the students around me. I was on lunchroom duty, and sighed as I saw some misbehaving. I stood up, and was going to walk over, but stopped. There's the table where Kid and Miyu's friends sit...but where's Miyu? And Kid?
My partner in the duty, Marie, noticed me standing.
"What's going on Dayna?" Marie asked.
"I don't see Kid or Miyu at their table. And Isamu and Kid's partners look worried. My gut tells me somethings wrong."
"Go check it out! I can handle looking after the ruffians."
"You sure?"
"I wouldn't ignore your gut feelings, they're usually right."
I nodded my thanks and she smiled sweetly, and motioned me to walk over there. When I came up to their table they all glanced at me.
"Afternoon kids! Where's Miyu and Kid?" I said in a happy tone, hoping they will answer they know where.
"Sorry, Ms. F, I have no idea where my partner and her twin are. I was actually just about to go looking." Isamu answered, and stood up.
"Come on. We will find them!" I said, and Kid's partners stood up too.
"We want to come, we're just as worried." Liz answered.
"Sorry girls, I hate to say, but it might be better if you stay here. You know, just in case they come." I told them, and they sat down again.
"You're probably right. Good luck anyways, Kid is a master at hiding when he doesn't want to be seen."
Isamu and I walked out, and started down the hall. I decided to ask some questions that had been bothering me for a while.
"Isamu, whats wrong? You and Miyu are always together, and I know your not dating, it just seems that something is wrong and you don't want to tell anyone."
"It's not my tale to tell Ms. Ferro. I would if I could, but that would be wrong."
"I understand...hey. Hear that?" I said, hearing crying from somewhere.
"Sounds like someone crying...and there's a notebook lying outside of that classroom. I know that notebook..." He said, thinking.
"Let's see wh-" I was cut off as Isamu ran down the hall.
"MIYU!" He said, running towards the notebook. "It's Miyu's!"
He knocked on the door and I ran to stand beside him as well.
"Go away!" A voice said, muffled behind the door.
"Ms. F. Nothing personal, but can Miyu and I talk privately?"
"No problem. I have hooligans to look after anyways." My job called anyways.
Lunch was almost over, so I went back to my classroom to gather my lesson for my next class. I hope Miyu tells me whats wrong soon...
Miyu's POV
"Go away!" I said from behind my knees, tears running down my cheeks and soaking my shirt.
I hear muffled voices and then someone knocked quieter.
"Miyu, love? We are alone now. What's wrong?" He asked, trying to open the door.
I shut the door again and he sighed.
"It's the fight isn't it." I heard him sit down, leaning against the door on the other side.
"Isamu. Just...don't ask. Please. I don't want to talk!"
"Then listen. Look, Miyu, darling, you have me to talk to, to rant to, to annoy. I am and always will be here for you no matter what. You can beat this, and whatever life throws at you. If you trip I will catch you. But never, ever, forget that I am and always be here for you. I am your best friend, and other than your brother, I probably know the most about you. You are a strong girl and shouldn't be worried if you can control this because I know you can."
He then went quiet, and I sat in silence, shocked and felt so cared for. I reached up and undid the handle and moved away from it. Isamu slipped in the door, shut it quietly, sat down. I folded myself into his arms and laid there quietly. He had his arm around my shoulders, cradling me almost, and his other arm wiped away my tears then grabbed my hand.
"Friends forever?" He said, something flashed across his face, and then he smile again.
"And ever." I reply, and he smiles his wonderful, dimpled smile.
"Good because otherwise, I would be forced to become your stalker to make sure your ok. Now I can just be by your side and make sure."
I laughed and gasped as he picked me up.. He leaned down quickley, gather my things into my messenger bag, and threw it over his shoulder. I snuggled into his arms as he walked to the sparring room, carrying me bridal style. I felt much less nervous, and looked up at him.
"Thanks."
"Always Miyu." He said, serious, and then quickly opened the door.
He put me down so I stood on my own two feet and gazed at the ring in front of me. Here goes nothing...
