Last chapter….

"I guess this is goodbye." John smiled sadly.

"I guess." Valkyrie nodded.

"If you ever come back to London don't hesitate to step by." John told them both.

"If we ever come back to London we'll stay at your place." Skulduggery smiled. "It was good working with you two but next time I'll prefer it if you tell us everything you know instead of keeping things to yourself."

"Next time we won't need to." Sherlock smiled tightly.

The two detectives shook hands, keeping their eyes on the other.

"Let's go." Skulduggery turned and walked off, followed by Bliss.

"Well, I guess I better go." Valkyrie smiled and gave John a quick hug. "Thanks for getting me into Game of Thrones."

He laughed. "You'll hate me as the seasons go on."

"Goodbye Sherlock." She turned to leave.

"Wait, you owe me one hundred pounds." Sherlock smiled in satisfaction.

"Fine, what is it you can tell about me?" She smiled and crossed her arms, confident that he'd be handing over the money.

"You and Solomon were not going out, but his passing affected you more than you'd care to admit. You can easily take care of yourself in a fight and you're a very good elemental." Sherlock paused.

"That's just an observation and isn't surprising." She told him.

"You haven't let me finish. You almost didn't become an elemental. You almost chose necromancy when Solomon died. You wear your ring in memory of him and what you could have been."

Valkyrie's eyes went wide.

"Skulduggery does not like necromancers and Solomon even less. You act like you aren't hurting inside but really you're crumbling. Something happened during the vampire fight last night that is causing you to avoid Skulduggery because you are both scared and ashamed." Sherlock smiled. "I'll keep my other observations until next time."

She opened and closed her mouth a few times before taking her wallet from her pocket. "You were right."

"Thank you." He took her money. "Until next time."

She glared at Sherlock and smiled at John. "Until next time."

"Thanks for an adventurous weekend Skully." Valkyrie told him, slightly sarcastically. She got out of the Bentley and collected her bag from the boot.

"Valkyrie we need to talk." His voice paused her halfway to Gordon's front door.

She took a deep breath and nodded. She dropped her bag and leaned against the car. Skulduggery walked around and leaned against the Bentley too.

They stood there in silence for a few minutes.

"I heard her last night." Valkyrie admitted.

"I know. Even while being tortured you never scream like you did last night." He muttered. "He killed Ryu last night, and I didn't care."

They were silent again.

"It's all my fault." She voiced her thoughts. "If I die Darquess takes over. If I get hurt Lord Vile takes over. What is wrong with me?"

"Nothing." Skulduggery answered quickly. "Absolutely nothing. You are perfect in every way. It is the world that is wrong."

Valkyrie looked up at him but he kept looking out at the hillside.

"What are we going to do then?" She asked.

"We'll continue on like before and if it gets out of hand we'll leave."

Valkyrie didn't answer. She just stared over her land. Why was her life so complicated? Whenever it seemed to be easy it blew up in her face. She should have been used to it now but she wasn't.

"You have Monday off but Tuesday you and Tanith are going dress shopping for her wedding. Don't forget." He told her and walked back around the car.

"You are definitely excited." Valkyrie smiled, all awkwardness between them gone.

"I am not excited. I just like to keep to schedule."

"Since when?" She laughed.

"I thought you died for real this time." A voice hissed from behind him.

Bliss turned. "I did."

"You were never one to stay down when you were beaten." The man smiled from the doorway. "I was disappointed I didn't get to kill you myself."

"But now you're happy to see me?" Bliss turned back to the mirror and adjusted his new Grand Mage robes.

"Happy is an understatement. I'm just looking forward to killing you. And lady Cain." The smile was obvious in his tone. "She kindly woke me from my slumber."

"If I was you I'd stay away from her. She's under Skulduggery Pleasant's protection." Bliss told him.

"Is she under your protection too?"

"I hope you enjoyed your rest because death is the only thing that awaits you." Bliss turned around but the doorway was empty. "I hate it when he does that."

Without another look in the mirror he left the room and walked towards his duties. A man smiled from the shadows as he passed.

He would enjoy this.

It's all over, or is it?
