Chapter 5 – Ending, Here Comes the Bride

Blinking back tears, Sarah carefully set down the note near some other letters that people had sent. She spent the next few moments gathering herself together, took a deep breath, and released it in a deep sigh. As she exhaled, it felt like a weight escaped from her along with the air.

The door opened. "Sarah!" her father exclaimed as he hurried in. "I'm so sorry I'm late, sweetie. Karen needed help making sure Toby didn't make early inroads into the desserts." He kissed her on the cheek as she laughed, then drew back and looked her up and down. "You look beautiful, baby girl, and much more relaxed than that poor boy of yours."

Sarah snickered. "Mom mentioned something to that effect."

"Your mother can be a wise woman." At a knock on the door, he offered her his arm. "Are you ready for the rest of your life?"

Hesitating for a moment, Sarah ignored her original bouquet of red roses and instead snagged the delicate masterpiece that Jareth had sent. "Yes, I think I am."

Later, she only remembered a few things clearly from the ceremony itself. The giant smile that graced Brenden's face as she appeared at the beginning of the aisle. Saying "I do." Sharing their kiss. And of course, the screeching barn owl that flew through and out the chapel in a flare of light right after they broke apart in a daze.

All in all, as the photographs later showed, it was a perfect day.

Author's Notes E: I hope you enjoyed. Personally, I'm very pleased with the results of my first Labyrinth fic, but I admit that I had not planned to finish it anytime soon. A friend accidently made me finish, polish, and post this within two days when she mentioned that she was planning something for Valentine's Day. While I'm not a big fan of the holiday, that sounded like fun! Anyway, she's the only reason this was finished within the next year or two, so it's now officially a gift for her. Happy Valentine's Day, Storm!

When I read the rough draft aloud, a classmate commented on how sweet it was that Sarah's parents both remarked on the same things and how they must have a solid marriage, and I was forced to admit they were divorced. My bad, but I kept it as-is because it shows a piece of why they were once married.
