Heartlessly Heartfelt
Chapter Twenty
It was to be another session in the Vocals cabin and Mrs. Shea was about to unlock the cabin door so her summer music pupils could enter at their own accord, when she was approached by Rochelle Goyle. "Mademoiselle!" With barely giving her any time to turn around, soon they were anticipating what the other was going to say, as Rochelle continued onward with little warning – she was too excited. "I have found le perfect song for me to sing! And record, but I need to find a male voice to sing good with me, can we make this our project for today? Please, oh please oh sil vu plait?!"
Mrs. Shea nodded, "Sure, I don't mind going a little off track here when we have an important project in our midst, let's just wait for everyone to arrive alright?" She soon got nearly squeezed to death in a hug by Rochelle.
"Merci, merci! Am so excited!" She rushed into the cabin and seated herself patiently, wondering where everyone else was.
Meanwhile outside one of the student cabins, Operetta and Jackson were just hitting the crisp dusk breeze. "You weren't in the cabin last night... or day, whatever it is." He weakly chuckled, but shifted his gaze to her. "If you don't wanna share a cabin with me, it's fine. You don't gotta sneak about to avoid me."
Operetta barely focused long enough to put on her make up, that's how exhausted she was. "Oh Jackson, don't ya be so silly! C'mon now, I ain't runnin' from ya. I... had somethin' to do last night with one o' the ghouls. I promise ya, I'm tellin' the truth." She sleepily kissed his cheek, making his insides flutter about nervously and Holt holler unnecessarily in his head.
Soon they were all ushered into the vocals cabin, all monsters who had that class first thing anyways. "Okay! I have a challenge for you all! First of all, it's a boys versus ghouls challenge."
There were plenty of ooh's and ahh's to go around the room and wake them all up from the undead sleep they'd been in.
"Second of all, I'm calling on all the boys who sang yesterday to participate in this challenge. And yes, you should. You don't have to, but this is what it's all about! Guys today, ghouls tomorrow!" The only guys who sang the other day were Heath, Clawd, Holt and Xavier. No one else wanted to go. In all probability they had this class as a fill in. But either way, the three present stood up near Mrs. Shea.
Robecca's eyes lit up when she saw a shy Xavier shuffle in and stand with the guys. "What's our challenge?"
"I am giving you lovely gentlemen the morning to prepare for a full blown performance in the middle of the camp grounds. Don't worry about costumes or anything, just set up and play your hearts out. Or... haha, lack there of. Anyways, whomever you decide to sing or play what is completely up to you. So, with that being said... please, go prepare! After we warm up with some scales first. Starting off with the lower scale. Doe, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, doe. Annnd, let's go!"
There was nothing better than a gathering with live music! And it was a project for the guys in Vocals to see if they could use their recently re-trained voices to pump up a party. Up now were: Clawd, Xavier, Heath and Holt.
The eager campers were excited to gather around and see how they would perform live. Abbey Bominable was one of those excited monsters, she didn't show it of course – having one of the most unimpressed looks on her face. But deep inside, she felt like a giddy school girl.
Clawd Wolf on the drums gave Xavier, Heath and Holt a 4 count using his sticks before the tune began – the most noticeable instrument being the bass guitar that Xavier was strumming intensely and Holt – he was there for the fast lyrical parts of the song, as well as the general "crowd pleaser" he was.
Heath leaned up to the microphone as he continued strumming his electric guitar at a fast, steady pace. "Here she comes again, like good medicine. Every step she takes, my blood is flowin' – her legs go on and on for days." He trailed off the note, going right into the next part of the verse. "She's got a hold on me, I need the remedy. Just to hold her would, be a cure for me. I can't keep goin' on this way."
"Gotta get away, I gotta get away." Holt echoed behind Heath while he sang the last line, then took lead with the quick words for the next little bit of the song. "She's at the top of her game, she don't know my name – the future's lookin' brief, she's outta my league!"
Heath chimed in once again, "Look out,"
"Hey!" Holt echoed directly after his cousin's last sang lyrics.
"she'll tear your heart out. Look out,"
"Hey!"
"She'll rock your world there's no doubt! She comes and goes when she wants to, I'd do anything she wanted me to – but who would blame me with legs like that?" About 2 measures had passed by before Heath approached the microphone once again. With his best instrument in his hands, he seemed so unstoppable!
Plus irresistible, according to one cool ghoul – Heath Burns gave her goosebumps and she wasn't even sure that could happen but now she knew.
"Here she comes again, she makes me wanna sin. My heart stops when I think about her comin' and her legs go on and on for days."
"On and on and on and on!"
Heath continued right on track, he didn't show the slightest bit of nervousness to the crowd. Not like when he sang in front of everyone in the vocals cabin without a guitar in his hands. "She's got a hold on me, it's a tragedy 'cause I will never get the chance to have her close to me. When she moves she takes my breath away!"
"She moves, sh-she moves and she moves." Holt smoothly repeated the hook he had done before. "She's at the top of her game, she don't know my name – the future's lookin' brief, she's outta my league!" His part was pretty easy, so he had time to get the crowd clapping in time to the fast beat as well as get a lot of cheers from everyone. Even Robecca was tapping her foot dismissively, sneaking in a gaze at Xavier every now and then. Was there anyplace that guy didn't fit in?
Heath entered in right on time, "Look out,"
"Hey!"
"she'll tear your heart out. Look out,"
"Hey!"
"She'll rock your world there's no doubt! She comes and goes when she wants to, I'd do anything she wanted me to – but who would blame me with legs like that?"
Now it was Holt's turn to shine with the rhymes he had up his sleeve for this song with Clawd continuing the background, consistent vocals. "She's breakin' me down; she's everywhere that I wanna go. Breakin' me down; she gets me high when I'm feelin' low. She's breakin' me down; she's on the move like a Rolling Stone, breakin' me down – just one look cuts me to the bone. She's like that, like that. She's like that, like that…"
"Look out,"
"Hey!"
"she'll tear your heart out. Look out,"
"Hey!"
"She'll rock your world there's no doubt! She comes and goes when she wants to, I'd do anything she wanted me to."
"Wanted me to!"
"–but who would blame me with legs like that?" Heath extended the note wonderfully, very surprisingly too but it was all in all a nice surprise.
Holt added in a few on the spur of the moment lyrics, his on – spot creativity was what really amped up a performance. "She moves and she grooves and she moves!" He kept repeating in time to the music.
"With legs like, thaat!"
"She moves and she grooves and she moves. She moves and she grooves and she moves! She moves and she grooves…"
"With legs like that. With legs like that. With legs like that. With legs like thaat!" He finished off the song, still strumming the last chord, which loud cheers and screams were shouted out afterwards. Nothing felt better than looking out at a crowd and knowing they were not only cheering for you, but that you gave them exactly what they wanted.
Talk about satisfying!
After the performance adrenaline passed, the boys began taking down their set up when all of the sudden Rochelle Goyle moved quickly up to them, hugging Heath. "You are my choice!"
"...pardon?" Heath backed up a bit, it wasn't everyday that he had (whom he called) a pretty little French croissant - hugging him.
"Mon ami, I am looking for a partner to do how you say, a duet with. I wanted to find the perfect male voice and I have found it in you, Heath. Believe me, I am just as surprised as you are... but please, do not say no."
Heath was ultimately flattered of course, "You're sure you want me to sing with you? I mean... is it just like, a performance like we just did? Or..."
"Non, non – it is to be recorded. Please Heath, you must. Sil vous plait?"
He thought about it for what seemed like forever. "Oh alright. I'll try." He told her as she squeezed him again.
"Yes!"
"Try is the key word!"
"You will be, epic. Thank you Heath, I appreciate this." She told him in her thick French accent, kissing his cheek lightly as he flamed up. "We will talk! Later for sure!" She ran off to go about whatever ghoul-y things ghouls did, as she left Heath speechless right where he stood.
"Oh my ghoul, it's moving!"
"Just hit it like this," Abbey Bominable smacked the wriggling dessert as it flopped over seemingly unconscious, "now is edible." Many monsters and ghouls crowded the main cabin later on after classes because dinner was being served. The main cabins were always open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacking in between also. It never closed, more than probably a safety thing. Amongst the other students, she saw the guy she wanted to congratulate after a wondrous performance that he and the boys threw on but with all the screaming ghouls and jamming monsters all around, it was hard to even get to him!
Even Slow Moe gave a big thumbs up to Heath and didn't smash his guitar, now that was saying something special right there.
"Hi Mr. Famous." She greeted Heath, nudging him lightly.
He chuckled and gave an aloof smile, "Heey Abbey, my ghoul, what's crackin'?"
She rolled her eyes slightly, "Well, not much is cracking exactly. But you did good song today at lunch. Everyone loved. Good job."
"Oh! Thanks Abbey, it wasn't just me though."
She had a direct question that she wanted a direct answer to. "Who is song about?"
He seemed quite shocked at her said question, "... wha-at?"
"Her legs like this, who's legs?"
He blushed feverishly, "I... uh, well... I mean that's a good... uh, question. I'm not exactly sure if I can help you out with an answer to that, as..."
"Is about Abbey's legs? They go on for days?" She winked playfully at him, which made him drop his screamcheese toast on the floor.
"Well I mean... um, I... I have to go!"
Abbey laughed, "Relax hothead, am just teasing. Abbey will be going now, goodnight Heath."
He sighed with a dreamy feel, "Night Abbey." Glancing down at his screamcheese toast with a frown. But at least today wasn't a total loss. Abbey noticed him singing today and he didn't really feel nervous with his guitar in his hands at all. Even he himself learned that he could perform. He never knew that he could.
He felt a cool touch on his cheek as she kissed it, then walked away as his eyes trailed down her feminine figure. "Yes, yes it was about your legs."
Phew! Here is an update for you all, I truly hope you enjoyed it! I wish everyone a wonderful holiday this year, if I don't get to updating before then. Much love to you all! xo
Please don't forget to R & R, it's always appreciated! ;D
