Chapter SIX
Mikoto looked around her nervously. It was twelve, and she was standing in front Joseph's.
When Mikoto had told Kuroko that she was going out, Kuroko had thrown a fit, asking 'which ape she was planning to hang out with', and Mikoto had been forced to electrocute her, then run out before Kuroko could recover.
Mikoto jumped when someone placed their hand onto her shoulder.
"Yo." Accelerator said. Yoru was clinging to his arm, and was looking around nervously.
"Hey Accelerator. Hi Yoru." Mikoto sighed in relief, and she led the way into the restaurant.
Mikoto sat down. Accelerator gently shoved Yoru towards the window, then sat on the outside.
Mikoto looked through the menu. She settled on a double chocolate sundae and Accelerator ordered some coffee. Yoru was looking at the menu in awe.
"Never seen a menu before?" Accelerator asked.
To their surprise, Yoru nodded. "I've lived nearly my entire life in the organization's base. This is the first time I'm actually free to do as I like out here." She said. She held up a packet of sugar, and stared at it in wonder.
Mikoto shot Accelerator a glance. Accelerator met her gaze, then sighed. He turned to Yoru, who was now sniffing at the pepper container. She sneezed. She put down the shaker, and stuck out her tongue.
Accelerator took the menu from her. "OK, what do you want to eat?" He asked.
Yoru blinked. "I'm not sure what all those things are. Whats a parfait?" She asked.
"Just order it, and you'll see." Accelerator grumbled. "Chocolate, banana or mix berry?"
"Chocolate please."
Accelerator nodded curtly. He called over a waitress, and gave her their orders.
They sat in awkward silence as they waited for their orders. The silence continued ever after a waitress brought their food.
"Would you like anything else?" The waitress asked as she placed the orders onto the table. Accelerator passed the parfait to Yoru, who's eye widened.
Mikoto and Accelerator both glared at the waitress. "Sorry!" The waitress smiled nervously, and rushed away from their booth.
The two level 5's glanced at each other, then burst out laughing.
"That waitress left the tray." Accelerator said. He picked up Mikoto's sundae and passed it to her. He then picked up his coffee cup. He took a sip, then placed it down onto the table. "So..." He trailed off.
The two level 5's looked at Yoru. The girl was still staring at the parfait. Accelerator sighed. He picked up the spoon, and scooped up a mouthful of ice cream with chocolate syrup. He shoved it towards Yoru's mouth. "Eat." He ordered. Yoru uncertainly opened her mouth, and Accelerator shoved the spoon into her mouth.
Yoru's wide eye widened. Her lips formed a small smile. She took the spoon from Accelerator and took another mouthful.
Accelerator turned back to Mikoto. "What now?"
Mikoto looked down at her feet, unsure of what to say. "Well, why..."
Accelerator turned to look at her.
"Why did you, ummmm, you know." She took a deep breath. "Why did you kill all those clones?"
Yoru suddenly grew quiet.
Acelerator clenched his fist. "Up for a life story?" He asked. Mikoto opened her mouth, but Accelerator ignored her.
"After taking the Power Curriculum Program, I was sent to the Special Ability Institute, and stayed there until I was nine, before I was moved to another class." He paused.
"As a child, I never actually had friends, because my powers kept going berserk. I hurt those that tried to approach me. I was sent to a special class." He took a breath. "When I was around ten, something happened, and the Academy City was deployed against me." Mikoto gasped, which Accelerator ignored. "After sometime, I gave up, and was forced into another special class. I became a loner, and everyone treated me like I was some sort of freak. Can't blame me for not trusting anyone anymore."
"After a while, Kihara Amata found me. He trained me with my powers, but it turned out he had always wanted to kill me. The only thing that stopped him was the fact that I was 'Research material'." Accelerator growled.
"Because of my ability, scientists and researchers wanted to create the first ever Level 6 psychic through me. They told me that to do this feat could only be achieved by killing the Railgun 128 times." Mikoto stiffened. "But of course, its impossible to create 128 Railguns, so in compromise, 20,000 of your clones were made." He chuckled. "You already know this, why am I repeating everything?" He fisted his hands into his hair.
"I don't expect you to believe reasoning." He muttered. "I wanted the Level 6 reputation, only to keep away the people who wanted to challenge me. I wanted power, so that no one would be foolish enough to challenge me ever again! I didn't want anyone to get hurt by challenging a 'monster' like me." Accelerator whispered the last part so quietly, Mikoto had to lean forwards to hear him. "I didn't even know I had to kill them. The scientists just told me to beat them. The first clone died when a bullet she shot got deflected by my barrier." He laughed halfheartedly. "And it just escalated from there."
Mikoto didn't know what to say. She had somewhat known that Accelerator had a rough past, but now she didn't know who she was supposed to be angry at. Accelerator for agreeing to the experiments? The scientists? Kihara Amata for teaching Accelerator to use his powers? Academy City for driving Accelerator to this?
Yoru, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "I've killed a lot of people too." She whispered. "Killing is not like the way they are described in books." She frowned. "And my ability makes it worse."
Mikoto leaned forwards. "Your ability?" She asked. Yoru nodded.
"My ability is not like the you espers." Yoru explained. "My ability is called Shadow Element. I can control the shadows, and summon the black elements."
"Black elements?" Mikoto asked.
Yoru nodded. "Its literally black fire, or black lightning, and things like that." She explained.
"But why does your ability make killing worse?" Mikoto pressed.
"I'm a human weapon, created by the organization with the sole purpose of helping you protect the Academy City. I'm designed to kill, designed so that I have no problem killing." She paused. "I have photographic memory. My memory and my ability joined together, and all of a sudden, I could remember everyone I killed. What they looked like, what they were wearing, their ability, the exact words they spoke to plead for their life..." Yoru trailed off. She shook her head. "What am I saying?"
She plopped another mouthful of ice cream into her mouth. "Anyways, what I was trying to say is that you shouldn't worry too much. I've killed way more people than you." She glanced at Accelerator's coffee. "Whats that?" She asked.
"Coffee." Accelerator said.
"Can I have some?" She asked.
Accelerator grunted, which Yoru took as a yes. She grasped the cup and took a sip. Her eye's widened, and Mikoto expected her to spit it out, but to her surprise, Yoru took another sip.
Yoru glanced quickly at Accelerator, who was leaning on his arms, his eyes closed. She shot Mikoto a cheeky grin, then gulped down all the contents in the cup.
Accelerator must have heard something, because his eyes flew open. His eyes shot from Yoru's smiling face to his now empty cup. He put two and two together.
"Brat..." He growled through gritted teeth. He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. "Annoying." He muttered, then leaned back into his seat.
Yoru giggled, then suddenly stiffened. Her eyes narrowed and she leaned over Accelerator to glance at the door. Her eye narrowed, and she shot back into her seat. "Is there any back doors or another exits here?" She asked. Mikoto shook her head.
"I don't know. Why?" She asked.
"Black Jack." Yoru growled. "We're going to have to try and breakthrough. They'll come after us, but if we can lead them to some sort of clearing, we can fight them."
"I know somewhere." Mikoto said.
Yoru nodded. "You lead us. Accelerator and I'll make sure they follow us and try to take some of them out." She grinned. "Ready?"
Accelerator nodded. His hands went to his collar. "Duh."
Mikoto nodded. She traced the route to the artificial river bank she and Touma had fought in her mind.
The three of them stood up and hid behind a huge menu board.
"I'm going first. Misaka-san, please follow me. Accel-chan, please watch the rear." Yoru said.
Accelerator's eyebrow twitched. "Accel...chan?"
Yoru smiled at him. "Last Order." She said. She turned back towards the door before Accelerator could say anything. "Try not to break anything."
Mikoto felt into her pocket, feeling seven coins. She release some electricity and grinned. "I'll try."
Accelerator switched on his collar. His crazed grin appeared on his face, and he just smirked.
"Lets do this." He growled.
Ok, this is probably the longest chapter I have ever done. :P
