As Tyler Dawn Misty and Tracey walked back to the pokemon centre the sun was just going down and Misty had a burning question running through her mind.
"Hey Tyler, What is your brother's problem?" She asked to him.
Tyler stopped and looked back at Misty with a little bit of a surprised look on his face.
"What do you mean Misty?" He asked.
"Seriously? I mean why is he such a douche bag. He is always so moody and mean."
"Ok first of all he is not that mean, he takes good care of his pokemon. He just is uncomfortable around new people so he just puts up a front."
"Well I don't like the back of him either. He is just all around a bad person." Said Misty.
"Well Ok, do you all feel this way?" He asked as he turned to Dawn and Tracey.
"No, I don't." Replied Dawn.
"But he insulted you as a coordinator." Said Misty.
"Hey, I said to drop that." Said Dawn calmly but with a menacing undertone.
"What about you Tracey?" Misty asked him.
"I don't have a problem with him. His pokemon are all powerful and impressively trained. And did you see how much fun Breloom had on the battlefield. A pokemon that has been abused, tortured or treated badly doesn't enjoy battling as much as that Breloom did." Said the watcher.
"You see Misty? It's just you. If you don't like him, just stay away from him." Tyler said.
"Fine." Was all Misty could say in response.
When the group got back to the pokemon centre all their friends were already back. Tyler, Dawn and Misty took their pokemon to nurse joy to be healed.
"Hey guys, where've you been?" Asked Max.
"Well I teamed up with Tyler for a tag battle against Misty and Jamie." Informed Dawn.
"Oh yeah, and how'd that go?" Asked Gary Who was typing away on his laptop not even bothering to look up from the screen. He already felt he knew the answer.
"We lost and Jamie was a total dick about it." Said Misty as she sat down with the others.
"Are you sure it was all his fault, you are really competitive." Said Brock.
"Shut up. That was nothing to do with it. He is just a total ass hat." She said.
"Misty, I think you need to calm down." Said May.
"You know what, fine! I will. I'm just going to go to bed and leave you all alone since everyone here LOVES Jamie." She said as she walked upstairs to the second floor.
"I wouldn't go that far." Said Gary confused.
"What was that all about?" Asked Iris.
"All we told her is that none of us have a problem with Jamie." Said Dawn.
"Heh, over react much." Slyly said Max.
"Well none of this is making sense. That's probably a sign that I should go to bed, so see ya." Said Gary as he proceeded upstairs.
"That's not a bad idea. We should all get some rest to." Suggested Brock.
"Alright." Said the rest of the gang.
The next morning they all regrouped at the Driftveil stadium waiting for the next 8 matchups on the big screen.
Ash Ketchum vs. Spenser
Grimsley vs. Ben
Cilan vs. Brock
Draden vs. Nando
Tobias vs. Mysterial
Brandon N vs. Travis
Ardos Virch vs. Koga
Ghetsis vs. Ingo
"Hey Ash you're going to battle spencer again." Said Max.
"Who's Spencer?" Asked Dawn.
"Spencer is the frontier brain of the battle Palace." Informed Brock.
"Hey look, Cilan is battling Brock." Said Iris.
"Ok who is Cilan?" Asked Brock.
"Cilan is a pokemon connoisseur that Iris and I traveled with through Unova." Answered Ash.
"Yeah, Cilan was a Striaton city gym leader, and a really good cook to." Said Iris.
"A gym leader huh? Of what type?" Asked Brock.
"Cilan uses grass types." Answered Ash.
"Oh crap."
"What?" Asked Iris.
"I'm a gym leader who uses rock types, I'd be at a type disadvantage." Explained Brock.
"Who cares Brock, you're a great trainer and a fantastic doctor. I don't see how you can't win this." Encouraged Tracey.
Would Ask Ketchum and palace maven Spencer please report to the battlefield.
"Well wish me luck guys." Said Ash as he walked off to the field.
"Good luck Ash. You've got this." Yelled Max.
"Go get'em Ash." Said Tyler.
"Come on. We're going to need good seats if we're going to cheer him on." Said Gary to the group.
Ash left his friends in the stands and made his way down to the battlefield. He knew he was battling Spencer. Sure he's beaten him before but a battle frontier brain was still nothing to sneeze about.
When he reached his side of the battlefield he saw the palace maven standing across from him. He looked like he hadn't changed since they last battled. Spencer still had the same staff, the same beard and same odd clothing. He looked across at Ash as a smile grew across his face.
"Ash, it is good to see you here again my boy."
"Hey there Spencer. I'm looking forward to another great battle."
"It's true you may have beaten me back then, but times have changed and I have only gotten stronger. Only time will tell witch of us is the superior this time around."
"Just to warn you, it's going to be me." Said Ash confidently.
"This will be a 2 on 2 double battle between Ash of Pallet town and Palace maven Spencer. The battle will be over when both pokemon on either side are unable to continue. Now let the battle begin!"
"Torkoal and Glalie, I choose you!" Called Ash as he threw his 2 pokeballs out on the field.
"Shiftry, Claydol, at my side!" Called Spencer.
The fire turtle and the face pokemon stood side by side on the battlefield. Standing across from them was the walking tree and the clay doll pokemon.
Glalie use ice beam
The face pokemon fired a light blue beam from its mouth at its to opponents. Both Claydol and Shiftry were weak to ice type attacks so Ash didn't really care witch of the two were hit by the attack.
Both of you dodge it
Spencer's pokemon listened to his call and avoided Glalie's attack.
Now Claydol sandstorm
Claydol began to rotate quickly as waves of dirt and sand were licked up around Claydol and limited the view of Ash's pokemon.
Shiftry use quick attack
Shiftry ran forward and struck Glalie with a quick tackle.
Torkoal try your flamethrower
Double team
Torkoal tried to see through the sandstorm and hit Shiftry with a super effective fire attack. Meanwhile Shiftry began to duplicate itself into multiple copies. By the time Torkoal fired the flamethrower it passed right through Shiftry indicating that it was a fake copy.
Claydol use psybeam
Claydol raised both of its arms and fired 2 separate pink colored beams that hit Torkoal and Glalie, by this time the sandstorm peered out.
"Just like I thought, spencer has gotten more powerful." Thought ash as his 2 pokemon returned to their feet.
Without missing a beat spencer called his next attack.
Shiftry use rock smash on Glalie
Shiftry's fan hands glew in a light red colour and jumped up quickly to strike Glalie
Torkoal block it with iron defence
Torkoal pulled into its shell and took the hit from the rock smash with little damage.
Glalie use headbutt
Glalie immediately flew past Torkoal and charged head first into Shiftry.
Claydol rapid spin
The clay pokemon rotated rapidly and smashed into Glalie.
Shiftry use shadow ball
Shiftry formed a black and purple orb in its hands and threw it at Glalie. the face pokemon was hit as cried out in pain.
Torkoal use flamethrower
Torkoal let hot flames shot out from its mouth and scorch Shiftry. The flames wrapped around the grass type pokemon causing a lot of damage.
Claydol use psybeam
Claydol once again fired the pink beam from its arms at the 2 of ash's pokemon.
Torkoal block it
Torkoal jumped up into the middle of the psybeam taking the full force of the attack. It was knocked back several feet and struggled to get up.
"Now why would Ash have Torkoal jump right into that attack?" Asked Dawn.
Now Glalie use icy wind
Glalie let loose a chilling wind in the direction of Shiftry and Claydol. Both pokemon took quite a bit of damage as they were susceptible to ice type attacks.
"That's why." Said Brock. "By having Torkoal take the full force of the attack Glalie was perfectly ready to launch a counter attack."
"And Ash had Torkoal block the attack not only because of its good defence but also because Glalie's ice type attacks are super effective on both of Spencer's pokemon." Noted Gary.
"Not to mention that an icy wind will slow down both Claydol and Shiftry." Added Tracey.
Now Claydol use hyper beam
Claydol fired a powerful beam of pure energy towards Ash's side of the battlefield. An explosion occurred and smoke billowed everywhere. Once some of the dust settled Ash's pokemon could no longer battle.
"Glalie is unable to battle." announced the official.
"Oh, so Ash lost?" Dawn said worriedly.
"Wait. What about Torkoal?" Asked Tyler.
Heat wave
Out from the smoke that still covered some of the field came a huge blast of fire that swept across the battlefield and caused a lot of damage to the Maven's 2 pokemon. Shiftry had had enough of the fire type attacks while Claydol could barely keep standing still recharging from its last attack.
"Shiftry is unable to battle." called the ref. Both sides had only 1 pokemon left. The last one standing would carry their trainer into round 3.
Rapid spin
Torkoal finish with overheat
Claydol's rapid rotation was powerful yes, but when it was blasted by the really strong fire type attack it instantly stopped and was overwhelmed by the intense heat and suddenly lost all strength to continue on.
Claydol is unable to battle, Torkoal is the winner and victory goes to Ash!"
Ash pumped his fist in the air and did a thrilling shout in victory, Pikachu on his shoulder sharing the same enthusiasm. Ash's friends in the stands along with the rest of the crowed cheered for Ash for his victory. Ash simply returned Torkoal to its pokeball and walked out to the middle of the field and came face to face with Spencer.
"That was a great battle Ash." Said the palace maven. "I do wish that I had made it further into the competition, but I am glad to lose to such a worthy opponent. Of course I would expect nothing less from a former winner of the Spirit Symbol. I wish you luck in the rounds to come." He said with an encouraging smile.
"Thanks a lot Spencer. I'm going to give it my all in round 3, and hopefully win the whole thing." Ash said as he clenched his first.
"Well then good luck Ash, and I will await to hear news of your victory very soon." Said Spencer as he turned and walked off and out of the stadium. Ash turned around and proceeded to do the same thing. As he approached the exit of the field he had only one thought come to mind.
*Round 3, here I come.*
