Chapter TEN
Yoru stiffened, and silence cocooned the table.
Then, out of nowhere, Accelerator began to chant the lines of the prophecy. "One from the darkness, the shadow host, who is blind but sees far more than most..." He trailed off.
He turned and pointed at Yoru. "You're can control the shadows, so you're the shadow host. I think the 'darkness' can mean secret. You're from a secret organization." He paused. "Who is blind but sees far more than most. You told us that you can read shadows, so in other words, you can probably see all around you. So, you're blind, but can see more than any of us."
"It would...make sense." Mikoto said. "It matches the lines of the prophecy. It would also explain why it seemed like you weren't quite looking at us."
"Right?" Accelerator asked, sounding smug.
Yoru was silent. Her gaze was fluttering nervously between the three Level Fives and her snake.
"Ah, well..." Yoru trailed off. "I'm not exactly sure 'blind' is the word, but yeah, I can't see."
Gunha looked confused. "So, you're not blind, but you can't see." He said.
"My left eye was taken when I was seven." Yoru said. "My right...is cursed. Simply put, you can say it's frozen."
"Frozen?" Mikoto managed to choke out.
Yoru nodded. "The leader of the Black Jack is a man called Theodore, Theodore Seigrein. His ability is called Heat Trap, and it allows him to control the temperature of everything he's touching. He froze my eye after he ripped out my other. Just cause he didn't have time to take it." She said. "I've only actually fought him one, because on our first encounter, I couldn't do anything. He's very strong. I just about managed to escape with my life."
"The day I found you." Accelerator said. Yoru nodded.
"Hang on!" Mikoto interrupted. "If you had never left your base thingy before, how did this...this Theodore take your eye?"
"The ability of most people in the organization awakens when we turn eight." Yoru said. "On the first Fourth of April after you turn eight, we are allowed to leave the base to visit this huge clearing surrounded by trees. Its a tradition, and many of our enemies target us on that day. I was just unlucky." Yoru shrug.
She spread her eye lids and tapped her eye. Mikoto gasped, until a she realized that she could hear a faint sound. "Can't touch it, can't move it, it's literally frozen." Yoru said.
"If he's really that strong, I'll need lots of guts to beat him." Gunha declared.
Yoru smiled "Tomorrow, we're heading out, so make sure you rest." She said. "We're going to place two MBD's along each border." She snapped her fingers and Oracion slithered over, the map in his mouth.
Yoru spread it on the table. "As you know, there are twenty three districts that make up Academy City. Along the outskirts are districts 3, 14, 19, 12, 23, 11, 10, 2, 13, 21, 17 and 20." She said, pointing to each district on the map in turn.
Mikoto looked at her nervously. "Um, you can't see, right?"
Yoru nodded.
"Then how do you know what the map says?" She asked.
Yoru grinned. "The ink used to make this make is a special type of ink fused with magic. This way, I can feel the magic and read along it." She explained. "Cool, right?"
She turned back to the map. "The plan is to put one MBD on the border between the districts, and one in the middle. Since the Tokiwadai dorm is closest to district 2 and 10, we'll head there first and I can show you how to set it. Then we'll split and try and finish the job by the end of the day."
Accelerator grunted. "Is this one of the sound simple but is actually really hard type of things?"
Mikoto giggled, then yawned. "Well, I'm going to sleep.
Gunha nodded in agreement.
Before anyone could react, the two girls jumped to their feet. Yoru dashed to the bed, and dove under the covers. "Dibs the bed!" She yelled.
Mikoto jumped onto the couch. "The couch is mine." She declared.
Accelerator and Gunha stared at them for a second, before realizing what had happened, and groaned.
Mikoto checked her clothes in the mirror one last time before unlocking the bathroom door and going out. She had borrowed a jacket from Accelerator to cover the burns and holes. She had asked everyone earlier if she could make a stop at the Tokiwadai dorm. She didn't want to walk around with a ripped T-shirt.
Everyone piled out of the room and Accelerator locked the door.
They walked through the busy Sunday streets. Yoru ran around, glancing into every shop window she could see. Gunha stared at her until Mikoto explained how Yoru had grown up at a organization base.
They broke of from the main street and took some turns to head towards the dorm. Mikoto led the way in, peeking out behind the walls. Kuroko should have left for her Judgement patrol half an hour ago.
She led the way to room 208, and told the other to sit on the bed, or something before grabbing some clothes and entering the bathroom.
She got and fixed herself a cup of water. Accelerator snickered at her gekota t-shirt, but Mikoto ignored him. After all, what could you say to a guy that wore the same clothes all the time?
Then she changed her mind. Was she the only one that changed her clothes every day?
Yoru was fiddling with the intercom on the wall. She quizzically pressed a button switch and the camera by the lobby switched on. Yoru gasped and leaped back, one arm already transformed into a sword. She took a threatening step towards the intercom and Gunha leaped to his feet in panic.
"WAIT!" He yelled, gaining the attention of Mikoto and Accelerator who had began another heated argument. Mikoto gasped and she darted forwards to stand in front of the intercom.
"Hang on." She said. Yoru paused, her sword lowering slightly.
"This thing is called a intercom, and it allows you to communicate with people down in the lobby." Mikoto said. "You just pressed the camera button."
Yoru frowned. "Whats a camera?" She asked.
"A camera is a device for recording visual images...I guess." Mikoto shrug.
Yoru made a 'O' face and nodded, and her hand returned to normal. "Okay. Sorry."
Mikoto smiled. "It's okay. You didn't know."
Yoru cringed, before standing straight. "Now that we have finished our business here, we're going to head out!"
