Chapter ELEVEN

Mikoto, Accelerator and Gunha crowded around as Yoru inspected the old phone booth. On their left was district 2, where the Judgement training grounds lay. On their right was district 10, where the cities only cemetery, as well as nuclear facilities were. The four of them were standing somewhere between the two districts.

Yoru stood up and patted the phone booth. "This will do." She said. "Now, watch carefully."

Yoru entered the booth and reached into her bag, drawing out a MBD. She first flipped open a flap and pressed a red button hidden underneath it before closing the flag again. She then tugged at a string attached to the MBD, and it came off. A green LED lit up. She crouched to look under the phone, and took off the tape covering the back of the MBD, then stuck it underneath the phone.

Mikoto saw a blue flash, before it vanished. Yoru stood up, looking proud. "There. Easy, right?"

"Really? It didn't look like anything happened." Gunha exclaimed. He reached out his arm towards the borderline, and froze when there was a faint blue flash. He jerked his arm back. "What was that?"

"That happened because you knew of the barrier's existence." Yoru explained. "If you didn't, you wouldn't notice anything."

"So there's actually something there." Accelerator muttered.

Yoru stood up and exited the booth. "Now, you guys remember how to do it, right?" She asked. Everyone nodded. "We'll split into two groups, Misaka-san and Accel-chan. I'll go with Sogita-san."

Gunha smiled. "Gunha is fine." Yoru hesitated, then smiled back.

"So, open flap, press button, close flap, pull string, peel tape, stick, right?" Accelerator asked. Yoru nodded. She passed a plastic bag to Mikoto.

"MBDs." She said. Mikoto nodded.

"It doesn't matter where you place it as long it is withing 50 meters of the border, because the barrier is set to appear on the outer border. It's water proof, so you don't have to worry about under cover or anything." Yoru said. "Gunha and I will start on the other side, between district 3 and 14, and we'll move in a clockwise direction." She passed Mikoto a copy of her map, then turned to Gunha. "We'll Shadow jump."

"Hang on! Doesn't Shadow jumping cost a lot of energy?" Mikoto asked.

Yoru smiled. "Well, the last time, the effect was huge because not only was I short on energy, but also, the shadows were really small and faint." She gestured to the dark shadows cast across the ground by the building. "Right now, the sun is coming from the side, and the shadows are bigger. It'll make things easier." She smiled, and placed her hands on her hips. "Remember, physical and psychic combination attacks."

Before anyone could react, she grabbed Gunha's hand and the two collapsed into their own shadow.

"Wow." Mikoto gasped. The first time, she had been part of the shadow, so she hadn't had a chance to look at how everything occurred. The two looked like they had been sucked into their shadow, which probably was true.

Mikoto and Accelerator

"Is this the middle?" Mikoto asked, looking left and right. Right now, they were standing on the outer border of district 2. Mikoto absentmindedly kicked a close by lamppost.

Accelerator shrug. "I guess."

Mikoto sighed, and took out a MBD from the plastic bag. She opened the flap, and pressed the red button. She then snapped the lid shut and pulled the hanging string. She was about to peel the tape when Accelerator stopped her.

"Where are you going to stick that?" He asked.

Mikoto looked back to the lamppost she had kicked. "Is this within 50 meters?" She asked. Accelerator nodded. He looked up and pointed at the light.

"If we could get up there, we could stick it on top." He said.

Mikoto tapped the post. She passed the plastic bag to Accelerator. "Hold this, and keep lookout." She looked at the MBD she was holding and clamped it between her teeth. Without waiting for a reply, she pressed her palms to the post, and electricity sizzled out, attaching her hands to the post. She did the same with her feet, and she clambered up.

Once she was at the top. she secured one hand to the post, before taking the MBD and peeling the tape with her teeth. She stuck it right on top and made sure she couldn't see it from underneath, then clambered back down. She let go once she was close enough and landed gracefully on her feet.

"There." She said. "One down, eleven to go."

Accelerator groaned. "You seem very excited about this, Ms Frog."

Mikoto stuck out her tongue at him. "So what, Mr Loli."

Accelerator gnashed his teeth together and stalked towards district 13. Mikoto smiled, and skipped after him.

Gunha and Yoru

Gunha fell to his knees, hand over his mouth, trying not to throw up his breakfast. Yoru glanced at him, and smiled. "Are you okay?"

Gunha smiled back weakly. "Yeah. Just trying to get my guts together." To their left was district 3, which held houses for authorized outsiders, and also included things like hotels and private to their right was district 14, made up of things like accommodations for oversea students.

Yoru looked around. "Can you see anythig closeby that we could use?" She asked.

Gunha looked around. "There's a small park over there." He pointed. "There's lots of trees and bushed ans benches and stuff." He said. "I think it's within the 50 meter radius."

Yoru nodded. "Sorry. Oracion's not here today, because he went out to hunt." She muttered.

Gunha grinned. "No problem. I guess I'm your 'eyes' for today, huh?" Yoru smiled.

She reached into her bag and pulled out a MBD. "You're turn." She said.

Gunha grinned and picked out a small bench. He followed Yoru's instructions and switched on the MBD. He then stuck it underneath the bench, and stood up, looking triumph. "There we go."

He snatched the map from Yoru's hands, ignoring her glare. "Now, to our next stop!"

NOTE:

So, I was just wondering if I should involve Touma into this. I'm not really sure, and I was wondering what you guys think.

If I did, I'm ninety percent sure his role is not going to be anything major, but... yeah. If you think I should, just leave me a message by review or PM. I could also use some ideas on his role.
