"Where do you think the others went?" Asked Iris searching through the stands.
"I don't know. They've got to be around here somewhere." Tyler assured her.
"There sure are a lot of people here. We should probably try to stick together more." Iris suggested.
"Nah. It's not that big a deal. We'll find them." Tyler said.
"Makes me wonder how team Rocket always finds us." Iris thought.
"They are an odd bunch." Tyler agreed.
"Hey guy! Up here." Called Ash. Tyler, Iris, Ash and Tracey joined Misty, May, Max, Dawn, Gary and Brock in the stands of the stadium.
"Where have you guys been? The last battle's about to start." Said Misty.
"We were talking to Virgil. He's battling next." Said Ash.
"Who's Virgil? Asked May.
He's a member of the pokemon rescue squad here in Unova." Ash explained.
"Pokemon rescue squad? Sounds kinda cool." Said Max.
"So is he a friend of yours?" Misty asked Ash.
"Yeah. We met him during our journey. He's also the winner of the Unova league."
"Woah! That's impressive." Gasped Dawn.
"Yeah. We only met him a few minutes ago." Said Tracey.
"So who's he battling?" Asked May.
"His name is Seth, and he sounds like a pretty strong trainer." Said Ash.
"Really? Is he better than Virgil?" Asked Brock.
"I don't know. We're about to find out aren't we." He replied.
They all turned their attention to the field as the competitors were being announced. On their left Virgil walked out to his side of the field with his partner Eevee on his shoulder. Opposite to him was the man who showed a lot of aggression toward team Rocket. He calmly strode up to his place with unwaverying seriousness written all over his face.
"The following battle will be between Virgil of the pokemon rescue squad vs. Seth from Phenac city! This will be a 3-on-3 battle with substitutions and no time limit! The battle will be over when all 3 pokemon on one side are unable to continue. Let the battle begin!" The refferee announced as he started the battle.
"Skarmory on the hunt!"
When Seth threw his pokeball out onto the field the first pokemon to appear was a metal coated bird with a sharp beck.
"Flareon deploy!" Yelled Virgil as he released his fire type.
"Haven't seen Flareon since it defeated Cameron and Lucario." Said Iris.
"Gary, do you know anything about Seth?" Brock asked while he was typing away on his computer.
"It says here he's from Phenac city in the Orre region. He's not registered to have competed in any league competitions, but he won his first and second round battles using Espeon and Umbreon." He said.
"I've seen both of them before." Said Tyler.
"So there's a good chance we'll see two Eeveeloutions go at it." Commented Brock.
"What about Skarmory?" Asked Max.
"I don't see any data on Skarmory." Gary said as he searched for the armor bird Pokémon.
Flamethrower
The fire eeveeloution started off with a hot stream of fire.
Drill run
Skarmory flew down to the ground and began to spin as it charged its way towards Flareon. It charged through the flames taking a super effective hit, but powered through a made direct contact with the flame pokemon.
"Skarmory can use drill run?" Said Gary surprised.
"Smart. Seth had Skarmory know a ground type move to cover for electric and fire pokemon." Said Max pushing up his glasses showing off his smarts.
"Damn. That's smart." Said Tyler.
Unlike Gary, Virgil kept his calm and focused on battle.
Flareon double team
Flareon briefly flashed white then multiplied several times as almost two dozen of them were scattered across the field.
Now fire blast
Only one Flareon had fire shoot from its mouth, but Skarmory was unable to dodge it because it did not know which one was real beforehand.
"Skarmory return." Called Seth as he held up his pokeball and recalled the metal bird.
"Wise. He couldn't afford to have Skarmory take all those super effective hits like that." Said Brock.
"Umbreon on the hunt." Seth's second pokemon was an eeveeloution as well. It was black, on four legs and had several gold rings glow all over its body.
Quick attack
Flareon shot forth with a speedy body tackle.
Dark pulse
Umbreon stood strong when it was hit by Flareon and retaliated with a ray off purple rings that knocked Flareon back to its own side of the field.
Use psychic
The eyes of the moonlight pokemon glew in a pink shade as it focused its mind into an attack wearing down Flareon.
Use double team
Flareon duplicated itself again and Umbreon was now unable to focus on the right one. The Flareon copies formed a circle around Umbreon.
Flamethrower
A Flareon from behind spit fire and hit Umbreon.
Shadow ball
Umbreon cocked its head to the side and launched a purple and black ball over at Flareon. It tried to dodge it but was unable to avoid the explosion the shadow ball created when it hit the ground.
Now hyper beam
The dark pokemon followed up by firing a beam of pure energy.
Fire blast
Flareon tried to retaliate with fire but the hyper beam cut through the flames and knocked Flareon back to Virgil's feet. Once Virgil saw how much damage Flareon had taken he recalled it at the same time Seth recalled his pokemon.
"Skarmory on the hunt."
"Glaceon deploy!"
Skarmory was called up again to face Virgil's ice eeveeloution.
Glaceon ice beam
The ice pokemon made the first move with an ice attack on the flying type.
Block with steel wing
Skarmory defended itself with its metal wings.
Now attack
Skarmory charged forth still using steel wing.
Sand attack
Using its paws Glaceon started to kick up the sand and it flew into the eyes of Skarmory causing it to fly past Glaceon and miss the attack.
Now blizzard
Glaceon unleased a powerful cold wind of ice at the metal bird. There was nowhere for it to fly to get out of the way.
Flash cannon
Skarmory opened its beck and fired a metallic beam down upon the susceptible ice type.
Use icy wind
Glaceon fired another chilling breeze in hopes of slowing down Skarmory.
Steel wing
The metal bird's wings glew silver and rushed towards Glaceon.
Ice beam
Glaceon used yet another ice attack on its opponent. But Skarmory followed through with the steel wing anyway and slashed Glaceon on its way by.
Use blizzard
Flash cannon
Both attacks were launched simultaneously. The cold blizzard had drained enough energy from Skarmory to take it out of the sky, while the flash cannon made a critical hit on Glaceon rendering it unable to battle.
"Glaceon and Skarmory are both unable to battle." Ruled the referee.
"A double knockout." Said Dawn.
"Impressive. He's matching Virgil move for move." Commented Gary.
"Leafeon deploy!" Virgil sent out the verdant pokemon.
"Espeon on the hunt." Seth's third pokemon was the psychic type eeveeloution.
Shadow ball
Leafeon started off with a super effective move.
Counter with your shadow ball
The psychic pokemon responded with the same move. Both made contact and exploded at centre field.
Now leaf blade
The leaf on top of Leafeon's head glowed in a lime green light and it ran forward towards its psychic counterpart.
Psybeam
Espeon tried to hit Leafeon with its psychic beam, Leafeon sidestepped it and continued to hit it with leaf blade.
Psychic
Espeon ensnared the verdant pokemon within its mental grasp and flung it back over to Virgil's side.
Use sand attack
Leafeon was able to land on its feet and kicked up dust and dirt into the eyes of Espeon.
Use solar beam
Leafeon began to gather energy from the sun and charge up its attack.
Espeon shadow ball
With dirt in its eyes Espeon fired a shadow ball across the field and luckily hit Leafeon. Afterwards it continued to paw at its eyes trying to remove the dirt while the sun's rays powered up the solar fueled attack.
Leafeon Solarbeam
Leafeon fired its fully charged Solarbeam across at Espeon.
Dodge it
Using its cat like-reflexes Espeon jumped to the right and avoided the grass attack and while the Solarbeam hit the ground where Espeon was before, the wind from the collision blew most of the dirt from the psychic's eyes.
Signal beam
Espeon fired a lighting quick bug type attacked and nailed Leafeon with its weakness.
"Leafeon is unable to battle. the winner is Espeon!"
"Thanks Leafeon, now return." Virgil said as he recalled his fallen pokemon.
"Now Flareon is the only pokemon Virgil has left." Said Gary.
"But that Flareon did beat Cameron's Lucario." Reasoned Ash.
"Who beat Pikachu." Said Iris.
"Right. This battle's not over yet." Said Ash.
"Alright, well let's see what this thing can do." Said Gary intrigued.
Flareon deploy!" Called Virgil with his last pokemon.
Psybeam
Espeon fired the first shot with its psychic attack.
Dodge it and use flamethrower
Flareon jumped to the side to avoid psybeam and shot back with fire.
Psychic
Espeon gained control over the flamethrower as it twisted and morphed and fizzled out before it reached Espeon.
Psychic again
Double team
Espeon tried to use the same move but Flareon responded with the same tactic to avoid psychic again.
Fire blast
The real Flareon struck fast with a powerful burst of fire power.
"Espeon is unable to battle. Flareon is the winner!"
Seth calmly recalled his psychic type and threw out his final pokemon. "Umbreon on the hunt."
"So it comes down to this." Brock says seriously.
Use flamethrower
Flareon tried to end it with its signature move.
Dark pulse
Both attacks collided on the field and blew up on contact in an explosion of fire and smoke.
Shadow ball
Through the smoke came a black ball of shadow energy.
Dodge it
Flareon responded to Virgil's quick command and avoided the attack.
Now fire blast
Flareon targeted the dark type with its most powerful fire attack. The five star shaped blast was launched strait over to Umbreon's side of the field.
Psychic
Using it as a barrier Umbreon shielded itself with its psychic energy to deflect the fire attack.
Hyper beam
As soon as the fire was cleared Umbreon went all out by pouring all of its energy into one attack. It released that energy and fired a white beam over at Flareon.
Double team
Flareon again began to make duplicates of itself to avoid getting hit, but the real Flareon didn't get away in time. The force of the explosion blew Flareon back and knocked it to the ground with its eyes glazed over.
Flareon is unable to battle! Umbreon is the winner, and victory goes to Seth of Phenac city!" Announced the ref. Umbreon proudly walked back over to Seth's feet and rubbed its head on his leg affectionately as he scratched behind the ears of his loyal pokemon. On the other side Virgil walked over to the fallen Flareon with a smile on his face.
"Good work Flareon. Rest up for now." He said as he returned the fire pokemon. He made eye contact with Seth and with a simultaneous nod of respect they both exited the arena.
"So that's it. Virgil's out." Said Brock.
I can't believe even Virgil lost." Said Ash.
"The competition here is really intense." Said May.
"If Virgil lost then we've got some work to do, right Pikachu?" Ash asked his yellow partner.
"Pi-kahu!" it said doing a fist pump.
