Chapter 13

I'm sorry it's taking me so long to update at the moment, I have exams and coursework, and to be honest life's just got really busy in the past month or so. Today's update will only be a short chapter, I'm sorry, but as soon as my exams finish I'll be updating more regularly.

Also there is a petition going round for The Tomorrow People to get a second season, please sign it. It will hopefully increase the chances of the show getting a second series. The links below;

Jedikiah had been visiting John twice a day, for the past four days. The kid was still pretty out of it, barely speaking but quite content to listen to Jed's stories of the outside world; the more Jedikiah visited him, the more pleased John seemed to see Jedikiah.

Jed entered John's room, for his first visit of the day. "Good morning, John." He took a seat on a stool that had been recently placed opposite John's bed.

"Jed." John beamed, a smile lit his face. The way John was acting reminded him of the first time they met.

Jedikiah could hear the shouting from outside the house, the words weren't clear enough to make out, but a man was definitely yelling. He approached the front door of the small, scruffy home that supposedly housed 6 foster children. The house looked like it had 3 bedrooms at the most, there was no way it was big enough for 6 children and the foster parents.

He paused outside the door, listening to the shouting, watching through the window as a grown man backhand a pre-teen boy. Jedikiah observed for a moment, curious to see how the boy would react, until he saw the knife in the man's hand. He quickly knocked the door, alerting them both to his presence.

The boy remained where he was, seemingly waiting for the man to return and finish his punishment. Jedikiah could now clearly see the boys face, this boy was John Young. The Founder's son. The reason he was here.

"Hi, my name is Jedikiah Price. I'm looking for a foster child here, his name is John Young." The man shot John a threatening look. "Could you put the knife down please?"

"Why? What's he done now?" The boy had the grace to look sheepish, inwardly stressing about the car he'd nicked that morning.

"No this is about the results of an aptitude test, every child had to take at John's school. May I come in please?" Jedikiah entered the house, producing a few pages of fictional data about Johns academic achievements. The boy stared at him with suspicion.

"As I was saying, every child at John school was required to take an aptitude test. John scores were unusual, he blew away the other children. John's aptitude scores were really off the charts-."

"Nah, you've got the wrong kid, this one's an idiot."

"Well, the testing often recognises talents that aren't noticed by other people." He turned to John, eyeing the suspicious boy curiously.

_That was you in the stolen car wasn't it_ Jedikiah stared at the boy for any sign of recognition, the kids eyes widened slightly. Jedikiah smiled inwardly, keeping a cool and collected appearance on the outside. _It's okay, I know you can read my mind. I can't do what you can do so just nod if you can hear me._

John momentarily contemplated, he'd seen enough sci-fi movies to know how badly this could go for him. But his other option was staying with his drunken foster father, besides the man already knew he had powers, didn't he? He slowly nodded his head.

Jedikiah turned back to John's foster dad. "We're going to help develop these gifts, I understand your compensated for taking care of these children."Jedikiah pulled out an envelope containing $5,000. The going rate for a foster child these days, he thought cynically. "I think this will more than take care of your loss and also compensate for any emotional loss you may feel. I'm gonna need to take him right away of course unless you have any objection." The man smiled greedily, staring at John with evil eyes.

"No, no objection. He's all yours. Whatever's best for the boy." John stared at them, he couldn't believe what was happening. He'd seen some dodgy things in the system, but this was… unbelievable.

"John, if you'd grab any belongings you feel you need for over the next few days and follow me. Most of your clothing can be collected or replaced by my organisation, so just bring necessities." John didn't say anything, just went to his room to pack a bag. He returned a few minutes later with a small rucksack and followed Jedikiah out to his car. John remained silent for a few minutes before asking, "Am I in trouble about the car?" The uncertainty in his tone of voice made Jedikiah smirk, someone just found out about his powers and he's concerned about the car.

"No, John. You're not in trouble at all. I'm about to take you to a facility, full of other people like you and then we're going to teach you how to control your abilities."

Jedikiah smirked at the memory, after that John had been eager to please and always happy to see him. It was what Jedikiah always imagined having a son would be like; having a child always happy to see you, always happy to talk to you, someone who needed you.

"How are you feeling today, John?" John sat up on his cot, leaning his back against the wall.

"I'm fine, just a little bored. How are you?" John replied.

"I'm great, thanks for asking." Jedikiah continued on to talk about baseball and the world series before John interrupted.

"When can I come out?" He asked abruptly. Jedikiah looked at him sadly.

"Not just yet, kiddo. We have to talk about Cara first." He replied.

"Cara. Oh." He said, looking very confused.

"Yeah. We need to have a little talk about it, you seem to be feeling a lot better today, a bit more talkative, so maybe you'll be ready for that talk soon."

Jedikiah was not looking forward to painting Cara out to be a bad guy, he needed to do it to get John fully on side, but he really didn't want to. And he had to be sure John was ready, that he trusted Jedikiah enough to take his side and not Cara's.
