So I've finally decided to start posting for this story again. It's a short chapter but please let me know what you're thinking. After chapter 101 I lost my way and confidence hopefully it's starting to make a comeback. Have a great weekend. Best Wishes mx
I'm tossed off the board and decide that I've had enough. This time I was better but I've been wiped out one time too many. Heading up the beach I turn and watch Elliot and Christian once more. I sit for a while and Mia comes and sits beside me.
'Hey baby bro, have you had enough?' Mia asks.
'Yes, I'm exhausted already. I didn't even manage a full hour.' I say.
'You've still got a week to enjoy all this. It's no good doing everything today and then having no energy left for the other days.' Mia says.
'You're right. Where's Hannah?' I ask.
'Her mom called so I left her to it.' Mia says. 'We had been sunbathing by the pool and then I remembered that you said I could paint your nails so I'm holding you to it.'
'That's fine, but please can you wait until Christian has gone. You know what he's like.' I say and she grins at me.
'Yes but he is more relaxed now that he's with Ana.' Mia states.
'Only for about an hour a day instead of five minutes.' I mutter. 'Mia on the morning of his wedding will you paint my toenails so that all day I can go round smirking and he'll wonder what I'm up to but he won't have a clue.'
'Why don't you get a tattoo whilst you're up for winding him up?' Mia says.
'Jeez Mia, he would kill me followed by mom and then Hannah.' I say.
'They do temporary ones.' Mia says and smirks at me. 'I dare you.'
'Shit Mia, you know you have me there. How temporary are they?' I ask.
'They come off with baby oil.' She says.
'Have you tried one?' I ask.
'Yes of course, it was for a fancy dress party but not for a wedding.' Mia says.
'OK, I'll do it for the dress rehearsal but not the actual day.' I say with a grin.
'Great, I knew you'd be up for it.' She says smiling at me.
'What are you two up to?' Christian asks as he stands over us.
'Nothing.' We both reply guiltily.
'That's what you always say when you're sitting talking quietly and grinning at each other but there's usually some mischief in the air.' Elliot says.
'Not this time Elliot.' Mia manages to say innocently. 'I was just trying to convince Matt to come to a club with me.' Christian looks at me questionably.
'It's OK I said no.' I say. 'I'd better get out of this wetsuit and go and find Hannah.' I stand and start to walk towards the surf shed. Christian walks next to me.
'You won't let Mia lead you astray will you.' Christian says.
'I'm old enough and ugly enough to look after myself but don't worry I won't let her talk me into doing anything I don't want to.' I say.
'I just want you to be careful.' Christian says.
'Don't worry, I promise I will be careful.' I say as he raises his eyebrows at me. 'Always.' I add and smile at him.
'Good.' He replies. 'Elliot and I are going to shower and then we're heading to the airport. Will you be OK?'
'Yes.' I say. He stops to look at me. 'Honestly Christian I'll be good. It's been great having you here but if you stayed then I would get frustrated with not being able to join in with what you and Elliot are doing. I need to rest and it wouldn't happen with you here. I couldn't even manage an hour of surfing and then I had to sit on the beach and watch you to get enough energy back so that I can walk up to the house.'
'It's that bad.' Christian says.
'Yes and I'm scared that I'm never going to get any better or be as fit as I used to be.' I mutter.
'You will, it's been less than two weeks since you first went into hospital and ….you know the rest.' Christian says.
'That I nearly died. Well no I didn't realise it at the time but….'
'Matt, stop.' Christian says angrily. 'Enough of this depressive talking. You're getting better end of.' I look at him and smirk. He smiles back.
'Race you.' I say and leave him standing as I run up towards the patio.
'I see you got your energy back.' Christian says as he catches up with me.
'Hmm, though not enough to do the things I want to.' I say. 'I'm going to find Hannah and then have a shower.'
'Together.' Christian says as he smirks at me once more.
'No, stop teasing. I just want her to wait in the room. It's usually when I've done something physical that I have a dizzy spell or black out. I'm being cautious.' I say.
'Sorry. You can shower in my room before me if you want. I've got a couple of calls to make.' Christian says.
'Thanks, I'll do that. Hannah was calling her mom so I don't want to disturb her.' I say as we climb the stairs and then enter Christian's room. 'You're so different to Elliot, this room looks like no-ones been in it and his has stuff everywhere.'
'He's always been like that though, he just makes a mess and expects everyone to clear it up after him.' Christian says.
'Whereas you pay someone to clear up after you.' I mutter.
'Like you will one day.' He says.
'I doubt it.' I reply.
'You have Mrs Richards here.' Christian says.
'That's different, we're on vacation. I won't have anyone when I live in the house in Bellevue.'
'Just like your daddy.' Christian says and I look at him for more information. 'There was always someone to look after us in the vacation homes but never in the house next to mom and dad's. You're so like him, to look at and the way you act at times.'
'What manic depressive with no confidence in myself, I doubt he was like that.' I mutter.
'Matt, you know you're not like that most of the time.'
'I'm going in the shower.' I mutter and head to the bathroom. The water hammers my body and I feel so much better. I hum a tune and the words to the song float around in my head. I don't know the song but it feels familiar as if I've sung it before. As I leave the shower and dry my body I feel a sudden calmness within myself. In the bedroom Christian is sat on the edge of the bed with his ipod in his hand. 'What's the matter with you?' I ask him.
'You were singing in the shower.' He says.
'I often sing in the shower but the words are in my head.' I say cautiously wondering where he's going with this conversation.
'It's what you were singing.'
'I don't know what it was.' I say.
'This house is doing stuff to you, it's making you do things subconsciously. Your daddy used to sing that song to you, here listen.' He says as he switches it on the ipod and the words fill the quietness in the room. Christian watches me as I listen. I stand frozen to the spot taking in all the words.
'Did he write that?' I ask as the song comes to an end.
'I don't know, probably. It's like he's speaking to you through the words even now. You were always his little man and then the words 'God bless mommy and match box cars.' He says and looks at me to see my reaction.
'So I was superman in my pajamas on the couch.' I say with a smile and Christian nods.
'His love will fly to you each night on angels wings.' Christian says and then slowly adds. 'You were singing it.'
'I didn't realise.' I say quietly. I turn so he doesn't see the emotion on my face.
'Are you OK?' he asks.
'Yes, you go have a shower. I'm going to play the piano, that usually helps.' I say as I head out of the room and make my way downstairs.
