I wake early and climb out of bed carefully so as not to disturb Hannah. Heading downstairs I meet Sawyer and he fills me in on all the details of last night's incident.

'I know it's early but do you fancy going for a surf?' I ask him.

'Sure. Let me go and wake Andrews so that he can take over from me just in case one of the girls comes downstairs.' Sawyer says.

'OK I'll just grab some juice from the kitchen.' I say.

'Wait for me there.' He instructs and goes back upstairs. Sawyer is back within five minutes and we head outside, through the garden, past the pool and down to the shed containing all the surfing equipment. Sawyer is another one of those people that makes putting on a wetsuit effortless. I'm sure he's smirking at me whilst I struggle to get mine on. Once I'm ready we both grab a board each and head to the surf.

'You just do what you want and I will follow your lead.' Sawyer says.

'I'm not sure how long I'll last and I was pretty rubbish the other day.' I say.

'I watched you, you were thinking too much trying to compete with your brothers and you weren't relaxed enough. Just go with the wave and enjoy. Don't think about me being here with you.' Sawyer says.

'OK' I say uncertainly.

'Matthew, just relax and enjoy yourself. You'll find you stay on the board longer.' He says.

'Thanks.' I say and head into the ocean. Sawyer was right I think as I catch my first wave, being more relaxed I feel more in control and I would have given Elliot a run for his money if I'd been like this the other day. I don't think about anything else but myself as I catch wave after wave and I feel great. Sawyer signals to me that it's time to finish and I'm disappointed. I don't feel tired and feel full of energy still.

'You've had just over an hour.' Sawyer says as we drag the boards out of the water. 'I know you were having a great time but I can't let you risk going any longer at the moment until the doctor says you can.'

'Thanks Sawyer and thanks for coming with me, I really enjoyed it today.' I say.

'I could tell and so did I.' he says with a smile. As we head up the beach towards the shed Mia is heading the other way towards us.

You looked good today.' She says.

'Thanks Mia.' I say.

'Here give me the board, I'll go and dry them both and wax them.' Sawyer says.

'Thanks.' I say as I hand it to him. I notice Andrews is following Mia from a distance.

'Let's go for a walk.' Mia says as she takes my hand. I unzip my wetsuit as far as my hips and she passes me a t-shirt. 'Did you sleep well last night?'

'Yes.' I mutter cautiously wondering where the conversation is going.

'Was Hannah OK?'

'Yes.' I say again.

'Jeez Matt you're not very talkative this morning.' Mia says.

'Sorry, what do you want me to say? Thanks for coming and comforting me when I had a bad dream. Yes I went back to sleep but woke early so I came surfing with Sawyer for an hour so that I didn't wake you or Hannah.' I say.

'That's better.' She says. 'Is Hannah OK?'

'Yes.' I say, again with caution.

'Matt. I don't know how to say this but is she pregnant?' Mia asks. I look at her in shock, fuck, fuck, fuck. How does she know? 'Matt, she might not be but she hasn't felt well the last few mornings and hardly eats until lunchtime as if she's scared of throwing up. She didn't drink last night, well she tried to fool me with the first one but there was the tiniest amount of wine in there topped up with soda and then she stuck to water the rest of the night.'

'I..I..'I manage to stutter before Mia interrupts.

'Hey come and sit down by the ocean and we can talk there.' Mia says and pulls me down the beach. She sits down and then looks at me so I sit next to her. 'She is, isn't she?'

'Yes.' I whisper.

'When did you find out?' she asks.

'Yesterday.' I mutter.

'Are you happy about it?' Mia asks now.

'Yes. That's why I was so happy yesterday.' I say.

'And today?' she says.

'I'm still really pleased but am worried now you're interrogating me.' I say. 'I'm worried about your reaction.'

'Matt if you're happy and Hannah is as well then I'm really pleased for you both.' Mia says and throws her arms round me to hug me. 'Congratulations.'

'Thank you.' I say. 'Mia we wanted to keep this quiet until after Christian's wedding, Hannah is only just pregnant.'

'You're worried about his reaction.' Mia says.

'More mom's reaction to be honest.' I say.

'You'll have trouble hiding it from her.' Mia states.

'I know, but Hannah's missing her mom so I think she might move back home when we get back from this holiday so that would make it easier for a while.' I say. 'Mom is still going to be mad though.'

'Because you're still at school, haven't been to university yet, still live at home.' Mia starts.

'Am a fussy eater, have nightmares, and won't do anything without mom being there. Jeez I'm so fucked up, how are we going to cope with a baby?' I say.

'It might actually do you some good. Is that why you were trying yesterday at the mall and then the burger place?' Mia asks.

'Yes, I have nine months to sort my life out and yesterday was just the start.' I say.

'Matt I won't tell anyone I promise. If mom does go mad when you tell her and you need some space then you can always use my apartment in the city as I am hardly ever there. I'll help you if you need it.' Mia says.

'Thanks Mia, you surprise me.' I say.

'Why because normally I'm a complete air head who spends her time at the salon or the mall.' She says and grins at me. I smile back at her.

'Something like that.' I say and she punches my arm playfully. I smirk at her before adding 'Auntie Mia.'

'Wow, I'm going to be an auntie. Oh my god, I never thought this would ever happen. I mean having three brothers is great but there's Elliot who I thought would never settle down, Christian who has never had a girlfriend until now and you, the baby of the family who everyone still looks after and protects.' Mia says excitedly.

'Mia calm down, remember no-one can know, not even security because they will report back to Taylor and you know who he will tell.' I say and grin at her. 'When I have my check up at the hospital next week Hannah is coming with me so that Dr Richards can check her out at the same time with no-one finding out.'

'I know, I know. I will manage to keep it to myself.' Mia says.

'Mia, you could be the only other person that is happy about the baby. Everyone else might freak.' I say.

'There's no might about it Matt, they will freak.' Mia says.

'Shit.' I say quietly. 'Fuck.'

'Looks like it's you and me together on this one bro.' Mia says.

'That always leads to trouble.' I mutter.

'Think of the worst case scenario.' Mia says.

'Mom being so mad that she disowns me. Dad throwing me out of the house. Christian going thermonuclear. Elliot will go along with whatever Christian does because he always has.' I say.

'I've already told you that you can have my apartment so that's one less worry. Mom might be mad initially but she'll come round, she can't stay mad with you for long no-one can. Have you got enough money?' Mia asks and then groans. 'Sorry I forgot how much you have.'

'But I don't Mia, I won't get it until I'm twenty one and dad might not even sign everything over until I'm twenty five which he could well do when he hears this news. I'll just have to get a job.' I say.

'You could work for Christian.' Mia says

'If he goes thermo on me he won't give me a job. I'll find one somewhere and I get a thousand dollar a month allowance now from dad so as long I can live in your apartment rent free then we should be able to manage.' I say.

'Of course you can, I wouldn't think of charging you. You could always move in next door to mom and dad.' Mia says.

'If mom reacts that badly to the news I'd rather be a bit further away than next door.' I say. 'I might have to go to Australia.'

'No way, please don't say that.' Mia says.

'Only for a holiday.' I say. 'Come on, let's go and find Hannah and see if she'll actually eat some breakfast today.' I stand and as I help Mia up she hugs me tightly.

'I'll be more careful with my money now as well so if you're ever short you only need to ask.' Mia says as we walk back up the beach.

'Mia you don't have to do that for me.' I say.

'I want to, it will do me good to start saving some money instead of always spending it.' Mia says.

'Thanks Mia, that means a lot.' I say as we walk though the garden and up onto the terrace. Hannah emerges from the house and I go to give her a hug. 'Mia guessed.' I whisper in her ear so that she's prepared. She freezes. 'It's OK baby, she's happy for us and is going to help.'

'Matt go and see if Mrs Richards is in the kitchen to make breakfast otherwise you can make a start and we'll come and help you in a minute.' Mia says.

'OK.' I say before she takes over from me and envelopes Hannah in a hug.

'Congratulations Hannah, I'm here to help you and Matt, I promise I won't tell anyone but I will support you both.' I hear Mia says as I turn and head to the kitchen.
