Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon or Brave nor do own any of the character.

Since it is my first crossover I would love feedback.

This is set after Merida and Hiccup have both experienced their own adventures-movie plots-. Merida is fifteen and Hiccup is sixteen.

Also I am sorry but I am bad at accents so Merida does have an accent that everyone notices and will comment on, but I will not be writing like she does, its just to difficult for me, so I apologize in advance.

Merida point of view:

It was odd to see Hiccup's village. Odd because it didn't match the stories that my father would tell me about. Although there were a couple of rough looking Vikings that came close there personalities did not match. The villages for the most part was clean, there were some buildings that were scorched and burned, but everyone was working on fixing them. Well that was until they saw Hiccup and I walking.

Everyone turned to look at us as we walked gawking and staring. At first I was to preoccupied with all the different dragons roaming the island Hiccup naming each one to really notice, but the more I looked around the more I noticed. Being a princess I was used to being stared at, but I felt as if I needed my mask more than ever. My smile slipped from my face, eyes narrowing, shoulders squared walking with as much power as I could.

However this only caught more people's attention. It did get people out of my way faster though. Hiccup nudged me with his arm. "You can relax, you can even smile if you want to. No ones going to just up and challenge you to a sword fight." he whispered giving an amused smile.

I narrowed my eyes at him leaning in close to him "Just like your friend Astrid." She may have not started an actual fight, but she was pretty close. 'Just what was her problem it not like I did anything to her dragon. Toothless was the one roaring at it. Than all of a sudden her dragons starts throwing a fit.' I thought, walking ahead of Hiccup in my fit of anger. I stopped when I realized that I had no idea where I was going. I glanced back at Hiccup who was chuckling to himself motioning that I needed to go the other way. I tried to keep the embarrassment from my face and body language as I made my way back to him.

"Come on Merida" he says walking beside me leading me down one of the streets that was turning away from the village, Toothless following behind us.

"Your going to meet the baby dragons so they aren't that trained so you're going to have to be careful. They maybe young, but some already know how to use their fire especially with there parents not there to watch them." I nodded, as Hiccup started explaining how I should act around them.

"You have to be careful…no fast movements…if they start to struggle just leave them be…don't rush them, sometimes they like to be left alone." I would just nod my head letting a little smile slip past my mask.

Hiccup just seemed so enthusiastic, so passionate when he starts to talk about dragons. I don't know if he was aware, but whenever he talks about them or even when Toothless is around he's much happier. 'If only he was as determined about running his tribe as he is about dragons' I thought 'Than again it's hard to get excited about taking on so much responsibility.' I thought, something uneasy settling in my stomach.

There was a snap in front of my face followed by a "Merida." I looked at Hiccup surprised to be so lost in my thoughts "you alright…you spaced out." I looked around we were at the outskirt of the village. 'Hardly anyone around.' I thought, sighing.

"I'm fine just thinking." I said trying to hid my accent, still keeping an eye out for people.

"About what?" he asked, leaning in closer to hear me.

I bit my lip trying to come up with a lie because there was no way I was going to tell him that I was thinking about him being a leader. "I have read books on dragons, but I never thought I would see them many people back home believe them to be myths." Which was true although not what I was exactly thinking at that moment.

Hiccup looked at me oddly "You have read about dragons" he gasps his eyes wide in surprise.

I bit my lip again wondering how I would explain that I knew a witch that would let me look through her spell books that so happened to have pages on dragons. "Yes my friend Agnes has book about them I never asked her where she got them from though."

I could tell the Hiccup was going to ask more questions, but was interrupted by a loud somewhat girly scream. Before I knew it Hiccup and Toothless were running, me in the back not really sure what to do wishing not for the first time that I had my bow with me.

Soon we reached a cage like building Hiccup and Toothless running in while I stopped to look at my surroundings. It was dug in with high walls, the tops covered in chains. I slowly walked through the cast iron gate and closed it behind me. As I walked in I could see somebody running around with fire on his foot. Hiccup running towards him with a bucket of water and Toothless rounding…rounding…a grin appeared on my face…baby dragons.

I watched as Hiccup threw the water at a chubby tall looking boy with blonde hair and wearing just fur. "Ahh Thanks Hiccup they just keep getting the best of me." He explains patting his charred fur boot.

Hiccup gives one of his smiles "No problem Fishleg that's the whole reason why there is suppose to be two people working with the baby dragons."

The boy gets a puzzled look on his face "that reminds me where were you yesterday I majorly screwed up yesterday I thought the dragons baby speed would be a four, but it had a power of…" I drowned out the rest of the conversation as I walked over to Toothless who was circling the baby dragons. He seemed to be reprimanding them.

I walked closer to them and Toothless quickly stepped in front of me stopping from getting to close, but they were so fascinating. There were all so small, but I knew better than to think that something small and cute could be harmless. As Toothless stepped in front of me the baby dragons scattered most surrounding Toothless and I. Toothless let out a low growl.

I watched as one red and black dragon that was long and line crawled on its floor expanding its wings to move faster I think Hiccup called it a Nightmare of something. Another one was green and spotted had two heads were fighting with each other I want to say it was called a Zippleback. While another one that was large like a boulder with dark grey green bumpy skin was trying to run only to fall and roll. I laughed bending down as three dragons all looking like the one from earlier 'Oh what were she called…Nadders something?' I thought watching as they jumped around me feet some flapping their wings, but never going anywhere.

Toothless looked at them cautiously and I could understand why, although all of them were small and adorable there was something in their eyes something familiar. As I leaned in closer trying to understand that look it hit me. It was the same spark I see when my brothers are up to something.

Whispering to them since Hiccup and the other boy were still talking and fairly close I said, "Wee little devils you are. I can see it in your eyes…mischief." Suddenly two Nadder's a blue one and a green one stood up in their hind legs screeching. Toothless looked alarm and as I stood to take a step back I was tripped by the boulder looking dragon, as I fell onto the ground I could see the green spotted dragon standing above me both faces hissing at my face as they moved to snap at my face I rolled away only to have the red and black salamander crawling dragon set its whole body on fire crawling towards me and I knew that this dragon was trying to put me on fire.

Toothless roared causing all the baby dragons to scatter as he chased the Nightmare that was still following me, however as he got closer I couldn't help but laugh. It was like an intense game of tag where if I lost I would be set on fire, but to the dragons it seemed like a normal game. Toothless stepped on the tail of the dragon causing it to squeak, it looked at Toothless and Toothless glared at it until suddenly its flame went out. Toothless still didn't let it go.

I walked over to Toothless and touched the paw that was holding onto the baby dragon.

"You can let him go Toothless he was only playing." I muttered knowing that I had the attention of both boys on me. Toothless gave a snarl, but let the dragon go. It squeaked running off towards the others. Toothless gave them a warning hiss before looking me over.

I just patted his head since I saw both boys running over to me. "Oh man Merida I'm sorry I should have warned you about there teaming up." Exclaimed Hiccup walking over towards me. "You aren't hurt are you, your fine right…I mean they didn't set you on fire or anything your okay right" Hiccup kept ranting as he looked me over with his eyes.

I smiled and nodded my head. I was happy. 'Its not like I haven't had magical things try to kill me before.' I thought, looking over at the group of baby dragons that were eyeing me.

"I'm sorry" the larger boy replied, "They haven't been fed yet." He said walking away to what I assume was a food pantry of some sort near the entrance.

"That's Fishlegs he know pretty much everything about dragons." Hiccup says, still looking me over. "He works more with the dragons than the riders, he's really smart." He says, his eyes still looking me over for injuries.

"I'm fine Hiccup really we were just playing" I said, in a low whisper.

He raised his eyebrows at me and asked, "Do you always play so dangerously."

I gave him a small smirk and answered "maybe."

Fishleg was back with a basket from the smell of it fish. Soon all the baby dragons were rushing Fishlegs. Fishleg unable to process what was happening was already on the ground the dragons trying to get the basket out of his grasp while others scattered to grab the small pieces that fell out. Hiccup groaned one of his hands running through his hair. "Troublemakers" he muttered

"Do you want to know how to handle a troublemaker?" I asked, grinning thinking back to my brothers.

Hiccup peeked at me through his hands and with a skeptical face asked "How"

"You make them allies," I stated like it was obvious.

"And how do you do that?"

"By giving them what they want, but on your terms." I stated and before Hiccup could ask any more questions I quickly dashing to Fishleg and grabbing the basket off of him before the dragons could get to it. I saw that the basket had straps on it so as I ran the baby dragons quickly nipping at my feet I placed it on my back and leaped onto the ledge of the wall. The walls weren't that high and held a decent ledge to grip. I began to pull myself onto the small ledge clinging onto the chain dome my back facing the inside of the cage. I cautiously undid the straps of the basket and with some difficulty I was able to tie the straps to the chain and moving slowly was able to sit on the small ledge.

All the baby dragons were at my feet. Most squeaking and whining, some on their hind legs trying to reach forward as much as they could. While the others tried to fly but only got a few inches off the ground. I sat up there just swinging my legs. All I had to do know was wait this out. I could see that Hiccup was helping Fishlegs up, both staring at me like I was crazy while Toothless was right beside them showing off a gummy grin. I smiled at them happy that someone knew what I was trying to do.

Hiccup walked over to me trying to get closer, but soon the baby dragons were attacking his legs. So he stepped back from the horde at my feet and asked, "What are you doing?" I didn't answer seeing as how the commotion of squeaks had brought attention to other people older Vikings. They stared into the arena completely confused, but I knew what I was doing at least I hope I did.

I leaned back trying to get comfortable. Now all I needed to do was wait this out. Hiccup and Fishlegs were both looking at me, talking to each other, but I couldn't hear what they were saying over the noise of the baby dragons.

These dragons wanted their fish like my brothers wants their sweets. Although I complain about my brothers, in a way I shouldn't. The truth is that I may have been the reason why they are so mischievous.

I smiled to myself thinking back to when they were smaller and teaching them a few of the secret passageways in the castle and how to steal sweets. I smiled remembering their first attempt to steal cookies from the kitchen. These dragons aren't much different they are just more forward in their approach of stealing.

I didn't have to wait long for the wee little lizards to get tired, soon they were on the ground some still squeaking others sitting there waiting. I motioned Hiccup and Fishleg over to me. No dragon made a move towards them either they were to tired or focused on me to really care for the boys. As I pulled one of the fish from the basket all the dragons stood at attention. I passed it to Hiccup and than all the dragons started to act up again. Hiccup looked lost raising the fish higher, the dragons starting to climb his leg. Clapping my hands loudly all the baby dragons went still and with one shake of my head narrowing my eyes the dragons still kept there assault. So leaning over I took the fish from Hiccup and placed it back in the basket.

They were whining again, but some realized what they did wrong and step back the dragons that were climbing Hiccup letting go as quickly as they could. I handed the fish back to Hiccup and no one dared move.

Hiccup and Fishlegs looked at each other for a moment before Hiccup handed one of the baby dragons a fish. The minute a baby Nadder had the fish the other dragons went for it. Giving another loud clap and a slam of my foot on the wall they all stopped and I grabbed another fish handing one to Hiccup who passed it to Fishleg. No dragons made a move, Fishleg gave the dragon the fish and no other dragon bothered it as it ran away with it. Soon all the fish was passed out and all the baby dragons were eating.

I slowly unstrapped the basket and climbed down the wall. Fishleg taking the basket and Hiccup extending his arm to help me down, I took the hand and landed with a small thump pulling up by baggy pants.

Both boys were looking at me as if I had grown another head there mouth wide open. I tilted my head not sure what they were so surprised about. Fishleg was the first one to speak.

"That was amazing we have been trying to get them to listen for for…well since they have been born. That's amazing I have to add that technique in the handbook, but how was that effective I mean was it just holding out food. Why did you think that would work? What experience do you have with dragons?" Fishleg kept asking me question and after a moment of being overwhelmed I stepped back. Hiccup must have sensed my discomfort because he stepped in front of me stopping Fishlegs rant.

"Maybe you should go put the basket away and bring the training guide over to work on it after all we can't say for sure the Merida's technique will work until we test it again." Fishleg nodded muttering theories to himself as he walked away basket in hand.

After he was far enough away Hiccup turned to me his eyes still shining with curiosity.

"What?" I asked still whispering leaning closer to him as I watched the older Vikings start to walk away from the cage.

"What was that?" he asked, motioning to my spot on the wall.

"Those who hold the food hold the power" I said, smiling to myself as I thought back to Agnes' words, it seems so long since I went to Agnes' cabin helping her with her shop or just hanging out trying to understand the world of magic. I laughed a little I find wisps and believe in magic, but some how don't think that dragons are real. I chuckled to myself before realizing that Hiccup was staring at me again.

"What?" I asked, wondering how much I missed in my little daydream.

"Who told you that?" he asked shoulders slumped. 'Oh an old witch that I befriended after she turned my mom into a bear' I thought, nibbling on my lip for a moment.

"My friend that had those dragon books told me, but she never said it would work on dragons." Hiccup still have that look like he wanted me to explain, "I have three brothers at home wee devils they are, in fact these dragons remind me of them. When they were growing up they had a knack for sweets, but they went around getting them the wrong way always trying to beat one another rather than work together. So one day I stole a plate of cookies and brought it to them." I laughed remembering how they pushed and shoved to get to the plate first. "They were all excited that they ran to me shoving and tripping each other. I raised the sweets and said no, you should have seen their faces." I said laughing a bit "I told them that if they wanted them they have to take them from me. The whole day they tried and tried, but they couldn't beat me. So at the end of the day I went to their room and they were on their bed exhausted. I gave them the cookies and told them if they want to be efficient they had to work together. So I taught them how, and although they are wee devils to everyone they are brothers first." Hiccup looked at me with a sober look.

"What?" I asked wondering if I had not been clear in my explanation

"Nothing its just it's the first thing you ever told me something about yourself." I could feel my face get red curing in my head as looked over at Hiccup who had a small smile on his face "Besides you seem to love your brothers and if they are anything like the baby dragons than we could defiantly use your help." He finished with his goofy grin and a small chuckle.

I was about to open my mouth to retort, but before I knew it the dragons were done eating roaring about something. As Hiccup and I turned to look at them they were fast approaching before I could react they were tackling me. I expected bits or being set on fire again, but instead they were…purring?

The baby dragons were nuzzling me, some crawling underneath my hands to be stroked, others sitting in my shoulder rubbing against my cheek as they all seemed to purr. One around my neck tickling me another I think was on top of my head.

Hiccup who was still standing stared down at me smiling "What do you know they like you?"

"I guess they do," I said, trying to pet them all as I tried to sit up but they were determined to keep me down. "I could use a little help." I muttered, Hiccup who was still smiling gave me his hand and help me get to my feet. Taking the dragons that were perched on my shoulder and placing them on the ground.

"You're a natural," he says taking the baby dragon that tried to light me on fire early out of my hair. "If I didn't know any better I would think that you've delft with dragons your whole life."

'No dragons just bears, witches, and pirates' I thought, remembering that I don't actually belong here. 'As great as the dragons are I need to get home' I thought, about to voice my thoughts, until I noticed Fighleg coming back.

For the rest of the morning Fishleg and Hiccup 'trained' the dragons, but it seemed more like babysitting to me. While they tried to teach the baby dragons self-control and discipline I sat close to the entrance observing. At some point Toothless came to sit next to me, his head in my lap, and again I thought just how great this place was, but again remembering just how much I missed home.
