Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon or Brave nor do own any of the character.

Since it is my first crossover I would love feedback.

This is set after Merida and Hiccup have both experienced their own adventures-movie plots-. Merida is fifteen and Hiccup is sixteen.

Also I am sorry but I am bad at accents so Merida does have an accent that everyone notices and will comment on, but I will not be writing like she does, its just to difficult for me, so I apologize in advance.

Hiccup's point of view:

After we finished exercising the baby dragons. Trying to get them somewhat more disciplined, but finding harder said than done, due to the fact that some of them kept sneaking there way back to Merida. Toothless would give a silent snarl at them when they got to close, but even still the dragons would try to worm their way beside Merida, who was sleeping.

It was odd how fast Toothless took a liking to her, he never liked anyone that fast, even the other teens he didn't like and based on the Astrid's first ride I'm guessing he didn't care for her too much.

"Who's the girl?" asked Fishleg rounding up some of the baby dragons.

"No clue, the only thing I know is that her name is Merida." I say sighing as I pick up a baby Nightmare.

"How does she know so much about dragons?" he asks, his eyes brightening at the possibility of learning more about dragons.

"Not sure, she's say she's read about them, but where she's from they're just myths." I said sighing. 'Which leads to the next question just where the hell is she from.' I thought, giving out another sigh.

"People say that you found her in the sea."

I sigh again 'of course the whole village would know.' "There's talk about her being a spy." Fishlegs whispers leaning towards me.

"Fishleg she's not a spy I don't know where she's from or who she is, but she's not a spy."

Fishleg's didn't ask or say anything else about Merida and for that I was happy. Which was probably why I liked working with Fishlegs. He didn't really care about anything that didn't have to deal with dragons. He wasn't nosey and he didn't mind being smart over strong, even though Fishleg with his size was definitely stronger than me.

"Well it looks like we are done for today until the riding class." Fishleg says grabbing the dragon guidebook. "Maybe we can grab some lunch before than."

I nod "That sounds good right about now." I say looking over to Merida and Toothless who both seemed asleep.

"I'll see you in the dining hall I want to look over some notes before adding them into the dragon guide." Fishleg exclaims waiting for me by the gates of the areana.

"Sounds good, but I'm sure about eating at the dinning hall just yet. Merida doesn't seem to comfortable with crowds yet" I say walking to Toothless and Merida. Fishlegs nods in understanding and begins walking out of the arena, his face already in the book. Toothless woke up first giving me his gummy smile, I smile back, and carefully trying not to scare Merida started to shake one of her legs. A little afraid to wake her up anywhere her hands can reach.

"Hey wake up sleepy head." I say still shaking her leg. "Come on its time to eat." Merida started to mutter to herself, but eventually she started wake up. She blinked her eyes for a moment not completely sure what was going on.

She turned to look at me a small smile on her face. I smiled back "Hey its time to go eat." She groaned, stretching her arms. "Or we can go home and you can get some sleep while I get us something to eat." She smiles nodding, the sleepiness still in her eyes.

"Alright than we'll go home get you to bed and then I'll stop at the dining hall." Somewhere in the back of my head I could remember my dad and Astrid telling me to keep her in my sight, but as I looked at the sleeping red head I couldn't think of making her having to deal with the village.

Toothless cooed and sluggishly Merida got up. Swaying a bit, "Easy there what happened to all your energy?"

"Gone with the baby dragons." She mutters before yawning again. I give a small grin before starting the walk back home. Luckily because it was lunchtime everyone was in the dining room, so I was practically empty when we went back home. Which was odd because when no one was there Merida was still silently sleepy, but if she even saw a person her demeanor would change. She would stand a little taller, her head raised a little higher, eyes just a little more awake. Merida was quiet all the way home and part of me hoped it was because she was tired, but as I looked at her face I knew it was more than that.

We made it to the house and as we entered the house I could tell that Merida was making her way to couch, gently grabbing her hand I lead her upstairs to my room. "I think a bed would be more comfortable than the couch." She didn't protest so I let go of her hand to open the door sighing in relief that my room was clean.

Merida wasted no time getting into the bed crawling under the covers. "So uhh I'll just um go get…the food than." I said walking out of the room "Toothless you stay here with her." Toothless nodded running over to the bed and curling up on the rug beside it.

I shook my head at the pair and went downstairs to find something to eat. As much as I wanted to go to the dining hall and just grab food, dad's warning still kept ringing in my head. I sighed feeling old with all the sighing that I was doing. 'Its better to try and cook something rather than starting another argument.' I thought walking to the food shed to grab some fish. 'Can't go wrong with fish.' I thought, opening the food shed and taking out two fish.

I walked back to the kitchen placing the two fish on the counter. Just as I turned around to grab a knife I heard a voice coming from the corner "So how's the girl." I jumped dropping the knife. I look over to the corner to see Astrid sitting there axe in hand.

"Will you stop doing that?" I say placing a hand on my chest.

"Doing what?" she says placing her axe on the table, one hand still resting on it.

"Sneaking up on people," I say picking up the knife. I could hear the shuffling of the chair, but not the sound of footsteps.

"Not my fault if you can't tell where I am." I jump again when I find her hovering over my shoulder. I back up finding her a little to close. "Than again it's not like you cared where I was." She says staring me straight in the eye.

I sighed, "Is this really the time to be discussing this."

"What" She asked, trying to look innocent, Astrid was never good at playing games. Just like her fighting style she was straight forward and to the point. So I don't understand when she tries to play these games.

"You know what?" I say, place the knife on the counter and turn to look at her "We start dating and you say I don't care about you because I'm to busy. Then when I try to spend time with you, you either tell me that I need to focus on becoming chief or that I'm smothering you. I don't understand what you want from me." When I beat the Red Death and Astrid and I started dating it was great, it was like I finally had what I wanted. A best friend, my father's respect, the girl of my dreams, but as time passed everything started to go back to normal. My father started to demand more from me, people blamed me for when they couldn't get their dragons under control, and Astrid…well she had this image of me that I had no idea what it was.

Astrid put her hands on both my shoulder "I want you to be safe, for you to be happy. This girl is trouble Hiccup. She's a stranger and an attack on Berk seems to be coming. You…we can't get distracted, not now, not when an attack seems imminent." I grab her hands holding them for a moment remembering a time when this would have made my heart race and my face red.

"I don't need someone else reminding me about my responsibility, I know what I have to do Astrid." I say dropping her hands, going back to the fish picking up the knife.

"Do you Hiccup sometimes I think you don't see the real danger in things" I give her a dry laugh.

"You know there was a time when dragons were considered really dangerous, right, they were our enemies, now they're our friends. I'm not saying that every enemy can be friend, but not everything is as black and white as you want to make it."

She slams her hand on the counter and I try my best to disguise my jump, going back to gutting the fish. "It is black and white, it's us or them." She snaps a small snarl on her face, her eyes blazing in anger.

"Figure out what side your own" I say stopping to look at her "That's what you told me a long time ago remember when it was us against the dragons."

I could hear a low growl coming from her "this…this right here is why we didn't work out. You could never let me forget when I was wrong."

"That isn't true," I shouted completely forgetting who was upstairs. "We didn't work out because I'm not what you pictured me to be. We didn't work out because no matter what I tried I did something wrong."

Astrid's fists were curled and her teeth were clenched. She shook her head violently her braid flying everywhere. "You know what do whatever you want, I don't care, to think I even came over here trying to look out for you." She spat as she pushed by me roughly storming out of my house.

I grunt, "Why do girls have to be so complicated?" I mutter, stabbing one of the fish. Leaving the knife in the fish I place my hands in my hair tugging at it in frustration. That's when I heard a roar coming from upstairs followed by heavy footsteps. Forgetting about my frustration I ran to the staircase watching as Toothless came running downstairs.

"Toothless what's wrong? Where's Merida?" Toothless ignores me, heading towards the door; I maneuver past the dragon and open the door. Toothless rushing out the door "Wait up" I say running after him. Toothless waited and with no hesitation I jumped on his back as he speed into the forest.

Finally after who knows how long Toothless started to slow down, crouching behind trees and prowling. As I leaned forward I could tell what Toothless was stalking. After all only one person on this island has fiery red curls. "What is Merida doing out here" I thinking leaning as close to Toothless as I can. As we keep moving doing our best to stay silent I could see that Merida seemed to be following a black bird of some type.

As we moved closer Toothless stepped on a branch. Toothless quickly ducked, and I rolled off of him so we were both well hidden. As I peeked over the fallen log we hid behind, I could tell that Merida was trying to figure out where the sound had come from. She was scanning the area, but as the black bird flew in front of her grabbing her attention cawing she quickly dismissed the noise and went back to following the black bird.

Toothless and I were now both peeking over the log giving each other curious glances. I waited a while before hopping back on Toothless putting some distance between Merida and us.

"Come on Toothless" I whisper still wondering why Merida would be out here in the woods following a black bird.
