Lost And Found ch8
Taken
Rook didn't waist any time getting there and rushed up the hall to Ben's room where he had been informed to go. He had been told that Ben had some form of break down after the medical examination and had to be helped back to his room. Rook quickly turned the corner and raced to the end of the hall. He'd made it to Ben's room and quickly typed in the code to unlock the door. The door slid open and as if Ben heard him type in the code he came flying towards Rook. Ben bawled into Rook's chest and locked his arms around Rook's waist.
Rook embraced Ben as well, holding him closely to his heart and occasionally rocking him back and forth. Rook shushed Ben's loud sobs as he pressed his lips into the brown mesh of Ben's hair. The week had gone so well and Ben seemed to have been improving which left Rook to wonder why Ben had broken down so suddenly. He felt Ben's legs giving in underneath him as Ben began to lean into Rook's body.
"Ben, what happened?" Rook whispered as he stroked Ben's back soothingly. Ben sniffled as he tried to breath, his mouth seemed too dry to make actual words as he cried into Rook's chest. He pulled off of Rook's strong chest as he rasped. "I-I had a bad day..," Ben sobbed.
"Why? What happened?" Rook asked, pulling his hands over Ben's forearms. Ben stared down to avoid looking to Rook's worried face.
"I just keep remembering..."
Rook furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Remembering what?" He fell silent as he realised what Ben had meant. Ben closed his eyes for a moment, shaking his head. "It doesn't matter."
Rook frowned at the response he'd received. 'I thought we could talk about anything,' Rook thought to himself before remembering Ben could read minds. He didn't really care if Ben had heard him though, it may encourage him to talk about it. "It does matter, Ben."
Ben moved his head away from Rook for a moment to look away. Rook watched Ben do this, confused by his actions. Rook followed Ben's eyes to the corner of the room and frowned when he'd seen nothing. "Ben, what are you looking at?" he asked.
Ben's eyes suddenly darted towards Rook and then instantly away. "I keep remembering everything that happened to me."
Rook's eyes widened a fraction. Was Ben actually going to open up to him? Finally! Ben was going to be honest with Rook and tell him what happened to him!
"You can tell me Ben," Rook whispered as Ben's eyes met his again. Ben pressed his lips into a thin line and began to look around to room as if not sure whether to tell Rook or not. Ben leaned forward to Rook and opened his mouth to speak. Rook was more than willing to listen to what he had to say and tilted his head slightly.
"The scars on my.. chest..," Ben began. Rook began to run his hand up and down Ben's back to calm him. Rook knew how Ben relived every experience by talking about it. He knew that speaking of his torture hurt him more than his physical wounds. Rook knew how lucky he was to be able to talk to Ben. He growled mentally. Angry that Psychobos had put Ben through such torture, that he'd done this to Ben.
"They were.. self inflicted." Rook snapped out of thought to stare Ben in the eyes. He was shocked. Rook stared deeply into Ben's eyes, searching for any dishonesty in what he had said. When Rook had found Ben was telling him nothing but the truth his lip began to quiver.
He closed his eyes and took a shaky breath to prepare himself. "E-excuse me?"
Ben looked down and bit his lip. "I shouldn't have told you that," Ben pulled away from Rook. He stood and began to pace back and forth as Rook watched him from his crouching position.
"You.. cut yourself?" Rook stared in utter shock. "B-but why?"
Ben stopped and turned to face the back wall so that Rook couldn't see his face. Ben's eyes stared down to the ground, watching his own tears bounce off the smooth surface of his prison floor.
"I-I wanted to die.."
"What? What do you-"
Ben turned around to look Rook in the eyes. "You don't understand," Ben said, tears pouring from his eyes, but a very angry expression across his face. "Being in that little room, being fed through a tube, I was drugged up for months so I couldn't fight back and by the time they wore off I didn't have the strength to!.. I was sick of being his little lab rat. So, when he left the room after his little experiment had failed I managed to find a little knife that he'd left on the table."
Rook's eyes widened as he began to shake his head, mouthing the word 'no'. He raised a hand to Ben. "Stop, Ben don't-"
"And then, I picked it up in both hands and shoved it in my gut! Then I dragged it up to my shoulder and did it again! And again! And AGAIN!" Ben screamed before Rook came towards him. Rook tried to grab onto Ben's arm, but Ben jerked it away. "Don't try to comfort me."
"But Ben-"
"Why can't you just be afraid of me like everyone else?" Ben shook his head. "Why can't you just call me crazy and agree that I'm a freak like everyone else? Instead you insist that I can change, that you can fix me." Ben closed his eyes as more tears came, colouring his face bright red. Rook stepped closer and raised a hand to Ben's shoulder.
"Ben..," Rook whispered. Ben pulled away from Rook's reach.
"You can't fix me, no one can. You can't change this!" Ben yelled, raising a hand and closing it into a fist. His fist lit with purple flames, but his hands remained unharmed by the fire. Rook took a step back from Ben, feeling the heat of the flames radiating onto himself. "HE! He did this to me!" Ben hissed, his eyes flashing white.
Rook watched in horror at Ben's outburst. Ben glared at him, opening his fists to show Rook his palms. "And now you're scared of me like everyone else," he said.
Rook's expression suddenly turned to an almost angered one. "No," he took a brave step closer. "I'm not afraid of you."
"Don't lie to me!" Ben hissed as Rook took another step.
"I'm not scared of you!" Rook shouted suddenly. "I'm not scared because I know you couldn't hurt me, I know it's not in your nature to hurt anyone! You see yourself as a monster now, but you're not. You're the same person you always were, but this time you're hurt and all I'm trying to do is relieve your pain," Rook's voice quietened as he placed his hands over Ben's shoulders.
Ben lowered his hands slowly, staring at Rook, searching for any dishonesty in his eyes. Rook wrapped his arms around Ben, pressing his nose into his hair. Ben pressed his flaming hands against Rook's chest. The flames didn't burn Rook's armour because Rook knew Ben too well. He couldn't hurt Rook.
Ben closed his eyes as the energy faded from his arms and the flames vanished. He wrapped his arms back around Rook, allowing himself to be held in Rook's strong embrace.
"I'm sorry," Ben whispered against Rook's chest. Rook nuzzled his nose into Ben's messy hair and murmured back.
"It's okay."
They remained in each others embrace, accepting what ever comfort the other was offering.
Rook soaked in Ben's tears, silencing them with his soft hushes. Brushing a hand over the back of Ben's head he began to think of tomorrow. When Ben didn't need him any more Rook would go home. He would see his family and his friends. He then held Ben tighter, allowing his pointed ears to hear Ben's small breaths and even his subtle heart beat underneath his chest.
He didn't want to be apart from Ben. Ben had made a permanent impact on Rook. He felt like he and Ben had a special sort of bond, which wasn't as insane as it sounded. He and Ben already got along with each other incredibly even though they've only known each other for two months. Rook closed his eyes for a moment, thinking deeply about Ben's recovery.
He knew that it would take a while for Ben to be accepted back into society, but when that happened it meant that Rook wouldn't see him again. Rook sighed heavily as he pulled away from Ben and stared down at him in his arms. Ben stared up in both confusion and shock. He hadn't expected Rook to pull away from him or to look at him in such a way. Rook's expression looked concerned, but instead of smiling like he normally did he just stared at him.
"I have to go," Rook nodded to Ben. Ben looked down as he'd been told Rook was leaving him again, but nodded back to Rook. Rook let go of Ben and made his way for the door.
He left after he gave Ben one more wave and a small smile.
"Max," Rook said. He knew he'd find the majester in the under level of HQ. He was standing by the coffee table set in the corner of the room, stirring a mug of coffee which had a small, pink creature swimming in it. Max liked strange combinations.
Hearing Rook's voice from behind him Max had jerked, not knowing there was someone behind him. He spun around to see Rook standing behind him. Max blinked at Rook and then smiled towards him. "Hello Rook, you scared me," he chuckled as he took another sip from his coffee mug. Rook looked down at the mug, seeing it had Max's full name on it. It was like every 'famous' plumber had a signed cup.
Rook took the mug from Max's hand, the man frowned at him as he did so. Rook placed the mug delicately onto the table beside them.
"Max, I have important news," he explained as Max squinted his eyes in wonder. He began to scratch his chin in thought.
"We haven't found anything in weeks and Psychobos is still invisible, what could you have found?" he asked as Rook had already began to prepare his words.
"Max, Ben was kept with Psychobos for a year and eight months," he began as Max nodded in confusion.
"Yes?"
"Over that time Ben had discovered his.. abilities," Rook took a breath. "I believe Psychobos was trying to use Ben's abilities." Max's eyes then widened and he began to look around frantically to make sure no one had heard what Rook had said. He lifted his coffee from the table again and motioned for Rook to follow him. "Come to my office."
Rook followed Max to the secluded area. Max led Rook up a flight of stairs and then typed in a pin code for his office door. The door slid open for him and he and Rook entered.
As soon as Max and Rook had entered the door slid shut as quickly as possible. Rook had looked at the door as he hadn't expected it to do so, but his attention was instantly drawn back to Max as he'd taken his seat behind his desk.
"What do you mean Rook?" Max said sternly as he leaned forward in his seat.
Rook cleared his throat before he began to speak. "Psychobos didn't use Ben for a power source the entire time that Ben was with him and I believe this was because Ben wasn't an anodite the entire time he was," Rook tried to explain.
Max tilted his head. "I don't understand."
"I think that Ben's DNA changed, that some mutation may have occurred," Rook frowned. "Perhaps his inherited anodite genes were.. hibernating until such a time that Ben needed them, perhaps when he came under stress from his capture."
"So you think that Ben changed because he needed to?" Max frowned as he began to ponder the idea. Rook shrugged as Max had began to stare at him once again for answers. "It's the only logical explanation I have so far."
"Well, work on it," Max nodded, "I think you may be right."
Ben sat across the room in a corner, staring down at his hand. He watched as every time he clicked a small bolt of purple electricity would fly up from his hand and disappear almost as quickly. Interested, he raised his head to look in the centre of the room where he had left the red ball he'd been entertaining himself with for the past month. He squinted at the ball, focusing on it's exact position. He began waving his hand around in circles, keeping his fingers facing up towards the ceiling at all times. After a moment of complete silence, his hand began to crackle with the electricity. It ran up the length of his fingers before the rotation of his hand started to make it move down to his knuckles. Soon Ben's entire hand was engulfed by the electricity and at this time Ben had chosen to strike the ball. He threw the electricity, much like he would throw the ball and hit perfectly in the centre of the red sphere. The ball burst open with a loud bang and melted onto the ground, steam rising from the remains.
Ben was intrigued by the result, but thought of himself as an idiot when he realised that was all he had for entertainment. Before Ben grew too far into a bad mood he looked back to his hand and smiled at it. It wasn't much, but he knew that he could do impressive things with the appendage. If only he had more things to shoot at.
Ben's hand dropped to his side when he heard a knock at the door. He stared at the large metal door before he decided to answer. "What?" he grumbled rudely.
"Ben Tennyson?" came the voice from the other side. "Are you ready to finish your physical?"
Ben sighed as he rolled his eyes. Standing from his sitting position he made his way towards the large door. Ben stood before it as it slid open, revealing two large alien men. One a tetremand and the other a Uxorite.
Ben cocked an eyebrow in confusion. "You guys aren't my normal guides..," he said. His puzzlement only grew when the tetremand began to laugh at him in a non-friendly sounding tone. The Uxorite shook his head as he kept a completely blank expression. "No. We are not."
Ben took a step back as the two aliens came closer. His heart started to race as his mind tried to evaluate the situation. Without thinking Ben threw his hands in front of himself and blasted electricity towards the tetramand while the other alien took cover behind him.
The tetramand merely laughed at Ben's attempt and lunged forward to grab hold of him. Ben easily slipped passed him and began to run up the hall. Upon turning the corner Ben was met with a familiar face and latched onto the man's shoulders, shaking him wildly to get him to help him. "Kevin! Help! Their back!" Ben screamed, but was pushed away. Kevin brushed himself off and shook his head.
"Damn it Tennyson this is my new shirt- wait. Who's back and aren't you meant to be in solitary confinement?" Kevin didn't receive an answer before Ben bolted behind him for protection. When two aliens came around the corner Kevin knew it had to be them. He placed on hand onto the wall and absorbed the metal to become as strong. Cracking his knuckles he gave into a fighting stance and said, "So, you guys are trying to kidnap him?"
"Little punk, we have a way of dealing with your kind!" the tetramand yelled before lunging towards Kevin. Kevin ducked and punched the tetramand in the stomach with his newly absorbed metal fist. The Tetramand stumbled backwards and coughed as Kevin had winded him, but Kevin's luck didn't last long after as the other alien had prodded him with a long stick. The stick gave Kevin a high jolt of electricity which forced a loud scream from his lips and shortly after Kevin fell to the ground. "No!" Ben screamed and tried to run towards Kevin to help him, but the Tetramand had recovered and grabbed onto Ben's waist, pulling him over his shoulder.
Ben punched at the alien's back and screamed, "Put me down! Put me down!"
The Tetramand gave a chesty laugh once more at Ben's pathetic punches. "Ha. Tickles," he mocked. During Ben's struggle the lights above their heads began to flicker and burst. The …. glanced up the lights and back to the Tetramand. "He's conducting the lights! The plumbers will be down any minute!" the Uxorite said and began to run up the hall, the Tetramand following.
Max stared up the ceiling lights as the began to flicker. "What's going on?" he frowned. Rook also noticed this and was instantly drawn to the plumbers outside the room who were yelling in frustration as the computers were also filling with static. Rook's eyes widened. "Ben."
"What was that?" Max asked Rook before the man turned to face him.
"Majester! Ben is in trouble!" the statement made Max spring into action and run around Rook. The man unlocked the door and ran out with Rook following. The two ran through crowds of plumbers who had all moved to make a pathway for the two when Max had screamed, "Out of the way! And follow me!"
Troops of men and women followed the two down the stairs as they ran towards Ben's location.
Rook and Max were at the front of the crowd, running as quickly as they could. Rook pulled his proto-tool from his shoulder and activated it, turning it into a gun. Max, it seemed had a small gun in his pocket and pulled that out as well as they reached the floor that Ben's room was on. Both men stopped in their tracks, causing all the plumbers behind them to come to a halt when they had found Kevin laid across the floor, metal fading from his body and returning to his normal state.
Rook bent down to Kevin's level and inspected him carefully. He looked up the Max who was waiting for a response from the Revonnahgander. "He is unconscious and breathing," Rook stated before being startled by a loud crash from up the hall.
Max ordered two plumbers to stay with Kevin while the rest came up the hall to investigate the crash. As they reached the end of the hall they found that a large hole had been smashed through the ceiling and the ceiling above it.
Rook glanced towards Max as Max did the same to him. Rook shook his head side to side, panting at the running that they had been doing. "He's gone. Ben's been taken!"
Agh the suspense. Also, thank you everyone that's left a comment. You guys keep me going!
The next chapter will be up soon.
