Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon or Brave nor do own any of the character.

Since it is my first crossover I would love feedback.

This is set after Merida and Hiccup have both experienced their own adventures-movie plots-. Merida is fifteen and Hiccup is sixteen.

Also I am sorry but I am bad at accents so Merida does have an accent that everyone notices and will comment on, but I will not be writing like she does, its just to difficult for me, so I apologize in advance.

Since the witch in Brave was never names and the Pixar theory claims the witch is Boo, I named the witch Boo

Hiccup point of view:

'What the hell did I just watch' I thought, as Toothless cautiously made his way down the walls of our old hideout, trying my best to not freak out right now. 'Well at least the cove is a safe place to talk' I thought, trying to make sure my breath was even before I pass out.

Merida was biting her lower lip her hands fidgeting at her side, but I watched as she closed her eyes she straightened herself up, placed her hands gently at her side and she slowly released her lip letting a small sigh out. When she opened her eyes it was like a completely different person was in front of me. The bird flew to her shoulder quite visible against her red hair.

"Hiccup" she says as if everything was normal, not moving from her spot her eyes never wavering from mine, for a moment I wondered if this was the type of demeanor my father wanted me to have, strong, intimidating, somewhat unnerving.

I opened my mouth, but I found that I had no idea where to start. What do you say in a situation like this, oh hi just wanted to know why you left the house and are using magic 'isn't going to cut it' I thought, still struggling to form words. "Merida what was-how did that…you made…the screen- water combined with purple smoke..." I sighed trying to rearrange my words so that they were actually coherent and understandable.

"Hiccup" she says her arms out as if telling me I needed to calm down. "It's a long story lad." She says with a sigh, one of her hands combing through her hair surprisingly not getting caught.

"Well we have time," I say getting off of Toothless taking a step forward only for her to lean back. Not wanting to risk agitating her I began to sit down on the ground Toothless following my lead and sitting behind me so I could lean against him.

Merida's face goes neutral for a moment "Merida you can tell me, your safe now." She gives a quite laugh muttering something under her breath.

"Trust me lad it's not my safety I'm worried about." She says sitting down, the bird jumping off her shoulder and landing on her knee. Merida started to stroke its feathers, as it seemed to sit on her lap. "How much did you hear?" she asks, not looking at me focusing on the bird on her lap.

"Everything," I say honestly "I just have no idea what it all means though."

"Hiccup…I'm not…we are…" she sighs again, lifting her head to look me in the eye her shoulders squared. "I'm a Scot Hiccup." She says, her eyes boring into mine. The bird seemed to shriek at her shouting if she was crazy.

Part of me jumped back, not because I found out Merida was a Scot, but rather that the bird was talking, like talking. It was still yelling at Merida asking her if she was in her right mind to trust a Viking, but Merida's eyes never left mine. She was still waiting for a reaction to her declaration.

"Scot as in…" I trail off knowing that there was only one type of Scot.

"As in you old enemy." She says, with an even tone, sitting perfectly still as if she was in control of this whole situation.

Some of the pieces were started to actually make sense now. Why she was so worried about her accent, why she was dressed so oddly, but some thing was still a miss. "That's why you don't want to talk your afraid that someone in the village will remember a Scottish accent and make you out."

"I am not afraid" she shouts, her eyes narrowing.

I put my hands up showing I meant no offense. "The war against Viking and Scott official ended a generation or two ago there is nothing to fear-worry about."

"Are you really going to sit there and tell me that there isn't a Viking that has forgiven the Scotts? That you Vikings don't tell stories about the great war?" She hisses, her hair moving widely with her words. I opened my mouth to protest, but I couldn't' I mean not really, the war with the Scotts is a sour for multiple reason. One was because the Vikings actually have to admit that they lost even if it was only because another war was started with dragons, two Vikings didn't really make the Scotts sound all that scary, if anything they made them sound like fragile little pansy, that knew nothing about fighting or honor, and only won because of there numbers and because we were waging a two sided war.

"Even if you're a Scot its better to tell my father than have him believe you're a spy for out current enemy."

Merida only shakes her head "I'm an old enemy who's to say that once your father finds out I'm a Scott decides to make me his prisoner. He might think I'm a spy for his old enemy."

"He wouldn't think that." I say, only to receive a non-believing looking "Because" I continued on trying to find a good reason, "I found you almost dead in the middle of the ocean." I shouted, really getting tired of peoples paranoia of spies.

"Do you want to know why I was almost left dead in the middle of the ocean?" She says her voice going cold her mouth twisted in a snarl. For a moment I really did think she was a dragon, a very angry dragon, which could quite possibly attack me. Not wanting to upset her more than I already had I nodded keeping silent. "A band of pirates no good thieves kidnapped me, they tried to kidnapped my whole family, my mother my three brother." For a moment she pauses her nostrils flaring "they hurt my little brother" she spats her fist clenched over her knees. "I don't know how long they kept me on their damn ship, they were planning on holding me for ransom, that was until I escaped. I would have rather died in the freezing cold ocean then-" She stops her breathing going ragged, her teeth clenched together, her eyes darkening.

"Merida" I say slowly, noticing how tightly she was holding onto the fabric of her pant "what did they do to you" I ask, keeping my voice as light as I could. She lowered her head, her hair falling in her face, but her fists just tightened around her jean. The bird in her lap started to rub its feathery head on her arm, trying its best to comfort her.

"Nothing just a few hits, they mostly threatened me with..." her teeth clenched harder that I could actually hear t hem grind together. "It doesn't matter I should have just killed them when I still had my bow and arrow." She says taking a deep breath to calm down, petting the bird's head.

"Merida" I ask, waiting for her to look up. When she did I noticed that she had calmed down I asked "why would they want to kidnap you?" Her eyes become guarded and the bird jumped to her knee shrieking "That's known of your business. You dirty rotten Viking."

"Hey" I say taking some offense to the bird's word, completely overlooking that a bird was actually talking to me. Toothless growled next to me eyeing the bird like a snack.

"Oh a dragon I'm so scared" the bird mocked, ruffling its feather as it seemed to chuckle to it's self. "Watcha gonna do eat me." He says jumping off Merida's knee to jump in front of Toothless.

"Crow" Merida says looking disapprovingly at the bird. The bird humphed jumping back to her lap, giving Toothless a sort of come get me look. I could feel Toothless grumbling to himself, clearly not amused by the bird.

Merida closed her eyes placing both hand on her knees as she released a shaky breath. "Because I'm not only a Scott, Hiccup," she says taking another deep breathe.

"Don't do it Merida. Don't trust a Viking, we don't know how long you'll be here. Jack won't be here until-" Merida pet her bird on the head quieting it down, but the bird seemed to glare at us.

She paused for a moment and stated, "I'm the princess." I stare at her blankly not completely sure I heard her right. She seemed to be watching my reaction, but I was to stunned to really do anything. Her sudden change in demeanor, the way she stood up to my father, how she makes her self seem taller than anyone in the Viking, it made sense, but it was to odd to think that the girl in front of me with wide unruly hair and crazy fighting skills was a princess.

I'm not sure how long I was out of it, but the next thing I knew Merida was sitting next to me waving her hand in front of my face, Toothless staring at me oddly, the bird laughing at me. "You alright there Hiccup."

"Can you repeat that" was all I could say.

"Are you alright?" she says leaning in closer to me one of her eyebrows raised.

"Not that, the other thing" I snapped leaning away from her.

"I'm a princess," she says firmly sitting back on her legs, but I could still only blink at her.

"Princesses don't know how to use sword" was the only thing I could get out, which was obviously the wrong thing to say with the way Merida was looking at me.

"Are ye kidding me lad. I tell you I'm a descendent of an enemy, I tell you I'm the princess a ruler of your past enemy, and your only interested is in my fighting abilities." For a moment I thought she was going to be mad and yell at me, but to my surprise she laughs, her hair covering her face as she brings a hand to her face to cover her laughs. "I'm sorry" she says still laughing flipping her hair out of her face as she keeps laughing "It's just" she is still laughing, slowly quieting down "you're so odd Hiccup" Finally she was completely done, a smile on her slightly red face as she says "but in the best possible way."

I could feel my face reddening, my hand reaching to rub the nape of my neck. "So what about that smoke communication thing."

"Well you see that was Boo, Crow's owner," she says looking down at the bird. "She's a witch I know her because well" you could tell she was trying to find the right words, but after a moment of frustration she just blurted "well she turned my mother and brothers into bears, and then I blew up her house, and some how we became friends."

My mouth opened again as I blinked at her repeatedly, but based on her face I could tell that she was telling the truth "That's an even longer story" she says, "One that I don't think we have time for if we want lunch." She says standing up the bird jumping to her shoulder as she patted down her pants of dirt.

"Well it's a long walk back why don't you tell me." I say standing up as well, Toothless stretching for a moment allowing me to get on his back. Toothless trotted over to Merida and I extended an arm to her, she smiled and with ease jumped behind me. Her arms circled around my waist and for a moment my breath hitched, my ears burning.

"Do we have to I'm still tired" she says adjusting herself behind me, leaning her head against my back. I could feel my spine tighten at the final adjustment. Crow flying above us making a comment about a "sleepy princess."

"If I don't get an answer from you know I never will" I say trying to focus on anything else, but the warm feeling in my chest.

She groans and I can feel her breathe on my back "Well my mum always gave me princess lessons preparing me for when I become well her. One day she announces that the other clans-" and for the whole walk home Merida begins to tell me the story of her suitors, how she broke tradition, nearly started a war, met a witch, turned her mom to a bear along with her triplet brother, how her dad nearly killed her mother, and how they killed a demon bear.

All through the story I had to bit my lip at the outrageousness of the story, but I mean I did just see magic and I do live in a village full of dragons, so a princess that became a demonic bear and a queen that almost stayed a bear shouldn't really surprise me. However there were times that I needed Merida to tell a part over again and although she kept sighing in annoyance at my disbelief she always repeated herself. I could tell that she was still tired because there were times that she would stop talking or her words would slur together almost undistinguishable with her accent.

We finally made it back to the house and I realized that we wouldn't have enough time to eat, so still on Toothless we climbed back into my room from the window. I slowly got off of Toothless helping Merida get off and guiding her to the bed. She wasted no time tucking herself in and for a moment Crow nestled himself beside her, but when Toothless walks into the room taking the bedside behind her. For a moment Toothless just eyes Crow and before I knew it, Crow was flying out of the room following behind me. Completely shocking me when he landed on my shoulder.

"Need to talk to you dragon boy" is all he said, as he perched himself on my shoulders. I walked downstairs and tried to make a quick lunch before, we had to go and train the older riders. When I reached the kitchen Crow flew onto the counter hopping around the counter stopping at the fish as he started to peck at it.

"Hey that's our lunch you stupid bird." He shrieks at me glaring at me before ignoring me and going back to the fish. I only sigh and start to gut the other fish.

"So what is it that you want to talk about you?" I asked, wondering if I was really about to have a conversation with a bird, a bird that belong to a witch.

"You don't know what you're getting in to," he says swallowing a piece of fish. "Merida is the princess of Scotland, but she's also very important to other, that dragon of yours knows that's why he's protective of her…something happens to her something might happen to you." I look at the bird strangely my hand stilling.

"What do you mean other?" The bird turns to me his head tilted looking at me with wide eyes.

"You know," he says slowly as if it was obvious. "Others…other beings…" he must have noticed that I was still lost because he shrieked "SPIRITS YE STUPID VIKING." The bird expanded its wings shaking its head at me. The bird started to mutter to itself as it turned back to the fish.

I looked at it for a moment, my head hurting from everything that is going on. 'Honestly I think it was easier for me to wrap my mind around dragons not being demons than the fact that I'm getting yelled at by a talking bird' I thought, my hands finishing the gutting. I put it next to the bird who seemed more than happy to eat it.

"I have a question," I said not knowing if I was allowed to ask any questions. The bird didn't look at me, but he didn't say no. "Does Merida know magic if she knows about spirits."

Crow looked at me fore a moment. "Merida knows about spirits ever since she was little, she's always believed in them and because she believed she could see them. She became apart of their world, however Merida didn't use magic until she met the witch Boo. Merida knows a few incantations for protection against dark forces, but she doesn't do magic. No potions, no spells, hardly knows any real magic, just wood magic."

"Wood magic?"

"Carve an incantation into wood and with the activation word written onto the word the spell comes alive." The bird says like it's the most obvious thing in the world. I raised my eyebrow at him not sure whether to believe a talking bird.

"Give her an arrow she'll show you." He says nodding his head as he continues to eat the fish guts. I was about to open my mouth to ask another question only to have the back door open and my dad walk in.

"Dad what are you doing here." I asked looking between him and the bird.

"Fishleg said you were coming here for lunch said the girl was tired," he says suspiciously.

I sigh "she is, she' upstairs sleeping." He still had his eyebrows raised at me so I added, "Toothless is with her."

He walks over to me nodding his head in understand before putting two plates on the table, it was a pieces of bread and meat on each plate. "Thought this would be better than making anything."

"Thanks dad" I say taking one of the plates and slowly starting to eat, as my dad's eyes seemed shift to the bird beside me.

"Brought a new pet did you."

"uhhh yeah um his wing was broken and we took him home" The bird looked at me for a moment and than started to play along coddling its wing. It opened its mouth and panicking I shouted "and it can't talk." The bird turned to look at me sharply, but closed its beak.

"Are you alright son?" my father asks now looking at me.

"Yeah fine perfectly fine, I'm just tired is all." I took a bite of the bread "But don't worry I'll make it to the class."

"Alright" he says walking out of the room.

"Dad" I shout after him, watching him only slightly turn around "I talked to Merida today."

"And" he says his one his eyebrows raised his mouth in a firm line.

"She's not a spy dad, a group of pirates -apparently a new term for thieves where she comes from. They took her from her family, her home, all she wants to do is go home." Just like Merida I wasn't sure how my dad would take Merida being a Scot, but he had to know that she wasn't an enemy, that if it were up to her she wouldn't be here right now.

My dad didn't say anything, but he did seem slightly guilty. "Did she describe the mans that took her."

"No, but they weren't very kind to her, she didn't tell me everything, but…" The way she acted, she wouldn't mind meeting up with them again with a sword in her hand.

"So I guess I have to apologize." He says taking a sigh as he runs a hand through his beard

"That would probably be a good idea, if she feels comfortable with you than she might start talking around you." I say as I start to eat. My dad nods his heads and goes upstairs.

I finished eating and as I turned to grab the extra plate of food for Merida I noticed that it was gone. As I looked around the counter for the other plate I couldn't find it. The bird noticed that I was looking around and hopped in front of me.

"Your dad took the plate." He says, "Got to say your dad is definitely a Viking." I look at the bird for a long moment.

I sigh, "I'll give them a minute," I say putting my dish in the sink. I grab the fish that I gutted and put it away surprised that the bird practically ate the other fish. "Just give them a minute to talk." I muttered leaning against the counter fiddling with my fingers trying not to think about what chaos could happen upstairs.
