Disclaimer: I do not own How to Train Your Dragon or Brave nor do own any of the character.

Since it is my first crossover I would love feedback.

This is set after Merida and Hiccup have both experienced their own adventures-movie plots-. Merida is fifteen and Hiccup is sixteen.

Also I am sorry but I am bad at accents so Merida does have an accent that everyone notices and will comment on, but I will not be writing like she does, its just to difficult for me, so I apologize in advance.

Since the witch in Brave was never names and the Pixar theory claims the witch is Boo, I named the witch Boo

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Merida point of view

I'm not sure how much time passed, but I was getting really bored for something that I thought would be fun, but maybe it wouldn't be as boring if I was actually participating. I sitting off by the weapon table, at first I tried my best to stay away from the bow and arrow, but it just got so boring that I pulled it into my lap and started to play with the bow string or fiddling with the arrows.

I mean Hiccup was a great teacher, almost everyone was understanding what needed to be done, but it was all about saddles, safety, and movement. At first it caught my attention and I was listening so intently my mother would have been proud, but he just kept ranting the same thing over and over again that after a while boredom set in.

As I was getting bored I could tell that the students were to. They had the same expression I do when princess lessons are going on wanting nothing more for the lesson to end. Hiccup was a good teacher he explained everything well and that was the problem, he explained EVERYTHING. The saddles, the positions, the dragons, movements, and although I'm pretty sure it was all helpful information it was not what these kids wanted to learn.

Finally Hiccup allowed the students to put on their own saddle taking off and putting on Toothless for demonstration. Again Hiccup went over saddle safety, which I just had to roll my eyes at, it should not take an hour to put a saddle on no matter what the creature is. Crow was on my shoulder muttering to me and although I tried to ignore him some times he would make a funny snide at the Viking students that I couldn't help, but laugh.

One of the students on a red and black dragon -a Monstrous Nightmare I think Hiccup called it- he and his saddle fell off to the side the minute that dragon stood. "Great now we have to worry about flying Vikings" cawed Crow quietly, "forget the dragons princess the Vikings most powerful weapon is them plummeting from the sky. With there size they could easily take out a group of men." I couldn't help, but snicker at the image Crow made me think of.

I watched as Hiccup make the students start riding in a ring one after the other. You could tell that some students were uncomfortable riding the their dragons, there were very nervous. While others wanted to go faster, they were nudging their dragons on there side more than necessary. One lad in particular was pretty ruthless. He was probably one of the older ones or he was just big it was hard to tell with the Vikings. He had unruly black hair that was sticking out of his practice helmet something that Hiccup made all his students wear. He had large biceps, but based on the scars on his arm I'm going to guess he's not very good dealing with dragons. He started to pressure the skittish kids to go faster, which just made them more scared.

"Gilfram knock it off," Hiccup shouted, riding along side the lad's Monstrous Nightmare.

"Its not my fault this kid is going to slow" the teen yells, his dragon actually pushing the dragon in front of him.

The dragon a Deadly Nadder turned and screeched not appreciating the action while the rider although looking upset didn't look like getting into a confrontation with the boy while sitting on top of a dragon. The Nightmare started to egg on the Deadly Nadder whose spikes were now out.

"Gilfram I won't tell you again control you dragon and get in line." Hiccup says, staring up at the lad because Toothless was smaller than the Nightmare.

The boy rolled his eyes "yeah and what are you going to do about it." Gilfram shouts his dragon now growling at Toothless who is now snarling.

"I won't tell you ag-" is all Hiccup says, but before he could finish the Nightmare snapped at Toothless. Toothless dodged it and charged the Nightmare. Toothless pounced on the Nightmare the teen rider yelling again.

By this time I had stood up, taking the bow and the quickly placing the quiver of arrows around my waist, as I got closer I took one of the arrows out reading my bow. The other students started backing away as the two riders and their dragons allowing the fight to take place. The Nightmare squirmed its way out of Toothless grasp and the two started to circle each other. Each dragon snarling at each other, this time the Nightmare launched itself of Toothless. Hiccup shifted his position, but other than that the pair didn't move as the dragon charged at them. Finally when the Nightmare was close enough, Toothless leaped into the sky gliding a bit until it was on top of the Nightmare where Toothless came crashing down on the back of the Nightmare, pushing it to the ground. Gilfram was shouting at his dragon to get up, but Toothless had him pinned.

"Get off the saddle Gilfram you are clearly not ready to train a dragon." Hiccup said, looking quite calm sitting on top of Toothless.

"No its not my fault I'm more advance than the rest of the class, I know how to ride my dragon. I want to learn how to fly it." He shouts still trying to get his dragon up.

"Fly you can't even ride" explains Hiccup, the Nightmare started to limit its squirm.

"Please I can outride any one in this class." The lad snapped.

Hiccup looks at Gilfram and taps Toothless side. Toothless lets the Nightmare up, but is looking at the two cautiously. "Really now how about a competition, you race anyone here you beat them I'll teach you how to fly, you can't you go back to the beginner class after your two week suspension." The lad snarled at Hiccup, but was quick to agree.

"Who wants to race Gilfram" Hiccup asks the class. However everyone in the class looks away, some even back away, not wanting to catch Hiccup' attention.

He sighs, "Fine I'll race you."

"What that's not fair, you're to experiences." Shouted Gilfram and I could tell that Hiccup was getting desperate. "Its not my fault if everyone in this class is to chicken shit to race me."

I kept walking closer to the pair and idea forming in my head. I could hear Crow muttering in my ear asking me in a panic voice what I was doing. Toothless' ears twitched and I knew he knew I was behind him. However Hiccup seemed very shock to find me standing beside him. "Merida what…what are you doing here…why are you carrying a bow…. Never mind that you need to back up its dangerous."

I could only roll my eyes 'I tell the boy I almost get killed my a demonic bear that was actually out for blood and I'm suppose to be scared of somewhat tamed dragons.' I walked up to Toothless and started petting his side.

"Mer-"

"Let me do it" I interrupted whispering, Crow gave a low "I knew it" while Hiccup's eyes got wide.

Hiccup unclipped him metal leg from the saddle and swung himself off of Toothless so he was standing in front of me. "Merida this isn't like riding a horse, it's to dangerous, I can't let you go-"

"Hiccup right now that boy thinks that he knows everything, if I go out there and beat him someone who you taught just right now to learn to ride imagine how that will make you look. That boy needs to be put in his place to know that he still has a lot to learn…let me do this." I could tell by his face that he wasn't convinced, but I wasn't wrong, when my father would train our guards and one would get to hotheaded he would have them fight me. When they lost and my father exclaims that he taught me everything I knew, they would hate me yes, but if they were smart they would see the potential they can reach with my father's teaching.

"No absolutely not" Hiccup says crossing his arm.

"I'm trying to help you." I huff, placing the arrow back in the quiver.

"You could get hurt, Gilfram isn't exactly known for playing fair."

"I can handle it" I whisper the urge to shout getting harder and harder to suppress.

I could tell that Hiccup wanted to argue some more, but Toothless came up beside me and nudged my side. He was on my side. "Toothless believes I can do it."

"This isn't about not believing in you," he said, still resisting. We starred at each other for a moment, and I could tell that Hiccup was going to cave, finally he sighed "just be carful." I could feel myself grinning and before Hiccup could come to his sense I swung the bow over my shoulder and swung myself on top of Toothless saddle and either climb that it was compared to Angus. Toothless was larger, but Angus' saddle was higher off the ground.

Crow was still on my shoulder shouting in my ear that this was a bad idea and that I had a death wish. "She's going to race you." Hiccup shouted to Gilfram as I adjusted myself onto Toothless.

"An outsider" the lad shouted "she doesn't have a dragon of her own does she even know how to ride a dragon." The lad was laughing now thinking that this would be an easy win.

"Do you accept the race or not" shouted Hiccup, pulling off his gloves.

"Oh I accept" the lad shouted chuckling "you better get ready for my lessons." The lad was laughing up a storm as he made his way to starting line.

Hiccup was muttering to myself some of what he was saying was lost to me, but I knew he was worried. I rolled my eye placing the bow on my back the weight slightly different than my bow back home. Hiccuped started to quite me towards the starting line, still muttering to himself. At one point he give a loud sigh and passes me his gloves "Your gonna need a good grip" he says, and although I doubt gloves would help in anyway on a ground race I took them. They were a bit too big for me, but if they helped Hiccup feel better about the race I could put them on. Toothless slowly made his way over to the starting line, Hiccup trying to cram as much info as he can before the race started.

I could tell that he was starting to panic. "Hiccup relax."

"How can I relax I agreed to let you dragon race when you haven't even rode a dragon."

"Sure I did, how do you think I got to Berk." Hiccup gave me a deadpanned look.

"You were unconscious and nearly dead that doesn't count."

"I'm trying to make you feel better." I say rolling my eyes, shifting around in the saddle, it was bigger than the one on Angus the leg straps a bit to long for me.

"Just let Toothless do all the work, he knows what to do." Hiccups say, petting Toothless neck. I nodded my head grabbing the head on the saddling seeing as how Toothless had no reigns. Hiccup looks terrified, but he began to walk away from us. The lad beside me was still laughing, and I was going to enjoy beating him. If I can ride my mom when she was a bear without any instruction I can ride a dragon.

"On your mark" I heard Hiccup shouts, I can feel Toothless crouch lower, the tension in his legs and I knew he was ready to leap. "Get set." From the corner of my eye I can see the Nightmare slink closer to the ground. "GO."
