Scaling Down the Fun!

Part 24.Your Worst Nightmare...
1:45 A.M. Oakland,California...
In the tallest of office buildings near the seaport, it's business as usual for Mr. Lozier.
He raises his glass and offers a toast to his new business partner. Mr. Boyarski.
"Here's to renewed ventures. When the chipette recovers from dehydration.
She will be fit to be smuggled out of the country."
The huge Russian sipped his drink..
He smiled and said," I always get what I want. When The Chipmunks toured Europe.
I saw the potential of using such intelligent creatures.
Their manager refused to sell them. Even after I offered a princely sum.
His loss is now my gain.
His chipmunks are dead and I have the last Chipette."
"I'm so sorry that I couldn't get you the other two.",answered Mr. Lozier.
After finishing his drink Mr. Boyarski said,"No need to be sorry..
It was the fault of that fool Igor; for allowing his dog to eat them.
Imagine the fool trying to stop me from shooting the beast.
Me!... His former commanding officer. I quickly disciplined him!"
3 Levels down...
Diversitech lab techs monitored Brittany's vital signs.
She was stripped, strapped, and spreadeagled down to a slab.
Sensors attached to her and an I..V. gradually emptying saline to rehydrate her.
The only thing she still had was the charm necklace; that Alvin gave her.
The room was cold. So a lamp was shone on her for warmth.
Slowly she opened her eyes. The techs prepared to leave and report on her progress.
Brittany had feigned unconsciousness.
She heard the lab techs discussion of the surgical implantation of a neural chip.
It would render her a controllable puppet.
The part were her hair was to be cut off; was something she feared the most..
She looked around the lab for way to escape.
2:00 A.m. On the roof..
A pair of hands removes a cover screen from one of the ventilation exhaust shafts.
The shadowy figure, Clad in black, turned to Alvin and Simon.
He then said," Here comes the hard part. We scanned the floor plan for this building.
At the level below where we tracked Brittany's signal; are the fans.
Let us know to when to stop.. I don't wish that the news of your deaths to be real."
"It's understood.. Uncle Adam. Don't worry.. We'll watch each others backs.", said Alvin and Simon.
The pair then jumped up on their uncle and hugged him.
Then they put on their harnesses.
Captain Vazquez spoke into a mike and said "Communication systems check.. Do you read me?"
Alvin and his brother responded on their headsets,"Rodger that!"
Then on tethers,(which were marked every six inches), the chipmunk brothers were slowly lowered.
The team took every precaution.
The harnesses are equipped with a digital remote camera and a bright LED for illumination. The descent was being monitored. The first 30 feet were cleared.
Down in Lozier's office..
The pair were discussing future profits. Making home grown entertainers.
Just by breeding Brittany with Siberian chipmunks.
It was then than Mr. Lozier noticed how stuffy the office was.
He picked up a phone and said," Get me Maintenance."
Down in the basement. A worker picks up a phone.
He answered,"Yes we can turn on the air conditioning for the building."
Down in the shaft...
Alvin and Simon were 20 Feet from the target air duct. Then they hear a sudden hum.
Below them. A dormant vent fan came to life. As the air flow increased they were bounced off the sides of the shaft.
The air's downward suction was pulling at them. Alvin and Simon's lines were wrapped together.
To make matters worse the line got snagged on a screw tip which jutted out the shaft's wall.
The team member handling the lines said,"Captain! The tether is caught."
"See if you can free them..", said Captain Vasquez.
The crew member tried to gingerly pull the lines off the screw tip.
To his horror... One line went snap!
Alvin clutched Simon, as the suction pulled at them.
He saw Simon's line fly by them and into the fan blades...
On his head piece. Alvin heard Uncle Adam trying to contact them.
He had no time to talk.
The line got snagged in the fan and he feverishly was working on Simon's harness.
To release it; before the line pulls his brother into the fan blades! He feels Simon's grip on his shoulders slip away!
On the roof. The the crew members stopped breathing; when they hear a hard clunk.
They noticed that Simon's harness unit stopped working.
Alvin caught his breath..
The fan stopped. Jammed by his brother's harness.
He wiped a tear and said,"I told you I would watch your back.."
Simon smiled up at his brother, who held him with legs and tail, and said ,"Thanks Bro.."
Captain Vasquez's voice called out on Alvin's headset," Alvin.. Report.."
Alvin replied," We are out of danger. The fan is jammed. See if you can work us down.."
The crew member worked the tether free and Alvin and Simon climbed into the horizontal duct.
The pair ran down the shaft. To where light was shinning up.
Looking through the vent cover, Alvin spied Brittany.
He saw her trying to gnaw at her bonds. Yet she couldn't reach them.
She paused when she hears a hiss sound...
Above her.. To the table's left side. The ceiling vent cover started to glow white hot.
Then it fell off and stopped short of striking the floor. A tether line held it.
Her eyes then grew large with joy. A figure with a familiar red hoodie, slid down the line.
Simon was wearing Alvin's special harness. So the crew above knew of their success.
Alvin kissed Brittany's lips while tearing at her bonds.
Simon helped to release her.
He then said," We better get moving before the smoke from the magnesium burn; sets off the smoke alarm.."
A moment latter it goes off..
Alvin turns to Simon and says"Can't you ever be wrong!"
The chipmunk trio scamper to the door's edge. It swings open..
As lab techs rush in.. They dash out..
From the headset Simon hears," Go to the stairwell. Try to get to the roof."
2:35 A.M. At Lozier's office...
The phone rings. Mr. Lozier hears the news.
He turns to Mr. Boyarski and says,"The chipmunk escaped the lab. It had help.
Let's get down there quick. Take the stairwell!"
On the steps...
Alvin and company caught their breaths.
Then they noticed from the top of stairs, a door below them was opening.. Two figures stepped out and started to go down the stairs.
"They're the men who took me..." , whispered Brittany.
As the men walked down.. The chipmunks scurried up.
Stopping two levels below the roof.. Totally exhausted they rested on bags of plaster mix. .
This area was being reconstructed. Equipment lockers, building materials, and power terminals.
One side of the room was barely lit and had no window placed in. Just open space...; which allowed the wind to howl and blow inside.
Brittany shuddered from the cold. Alvin spies a box of rags, which work crews use to wipe clean surfaces.
He grabs one and wraps his love with it.
Simon just finished telling Uncle Adam at which level to find them.
He jumps off the plaster bag to the floor. He landed less than gracefully and struck a small box of screws.
This sent a few of them falling down the gap of the stairway.
3:00 A.M. Down at the lab level...
Mr. Lozier and company were searching for where the chipmunks may be hiding.
"I had a crew search the lower parts of this building. Nothing can get in or out below.
Our subject and her helpers must be hiding somewhere in this building.", said Mr. Lozier.
As they walked by the stairway. A shower of screws landed by their feet.
Mr. Boyarski looked at them and said," Do you have workers upstairs?"
"The penthouse level shouldn't have workers on the weekend.
Let us take the private elevator there. ", said Mr. Lozier.
3:10 A.M. At the stairwell...
Brittany rested on the plaster bag with Alvin. Staring into his eyes and saying,"The TV said you and your brothers were dead."
Alvin smiled and said," Like my brother Simon's favorite author quotes: The rumors of our deaths have been greatly exaggerated!"
The trio hears footsteps advancing up the stairs.
As they back away from the stairwell.. Simon notices something in the shadows.
Before he could say anything.. He was swatted across the room by a huge hand.
He smashed into some cardboard boxes. Falling unconscious to the floor.
On the roof...
Uncle Adam saw what happened on his video feed. He yells," Captain Vasquez get a team down there quick. I 'm going to the Dragon."
Cornered in the stairwell...
Too tired to run... Alvin and Brittany are easy snatched up by Mr. Boyarski.
He turns to Mr. Lozier and says," Looks like we have a live celebrity, who was declared dead.
I'll make him dead."
Alvin screams as the huge hand that held him tightened around him. He was going to be crushed.
Boyarski then screams out; as Brittany Bites down hard on his finger.
The pain makes the big Russian drop them both.
The pair scamper to where Simon lay.
Under a row of equipment lockers, they carry him to safety.
Boyarski was filled with rage, said,"Little witch, viper!
When I kill your companions and catch you.
I will see you suffer!
My Siberian chipmunks will have their way with you."
Using a metal rod. He swept under the tool lockers.
While Mr. Lozier trained his flashlight on them.
Alvin and Brittany dragged the unconscious Simon with them toward the open section of the building.
They couldn't go any further. They were spent.
Boyarski produced his gun.
The one he shot Brutus with. He took aim at Alvin's head.
But before he could pull the trigger, a dark figure soared through the open section .
It sent him flying on top of Mr. Lozier.
To save his Godchildren. Uncle Adam had swung from the airship,
to the side of the building.
Staring at the would be assassin. He said,
"Gregor Boyarski.. You've come a long way. From KGB to Crime boss."
Boyarski stood up,regained composer and asked,"Who are you?"
Uncle Adam's reply,"Your worst Nightmare!"
Then he advanced to his opponent.
The Russian mobster swung a hard right at the elder Seville.
Uncle Adam took hold of it sending the big thug crashing into sacks of plaster.
His foe turned ,charged, and tackled Uncle Adam.
Both men tumbled into the unlighted section of the penthouse.
Alvin and Brittany couldn't see them, but they hear a brutal fight in the dark.
Hard and heavy thuds as muscles and bones take a pounding.
Then silence..
In terror... Alvin and Brittany see Mr. Gregor Boyarski step into the light.
Then he falls as Uncle Adam lets go of him.
Mr. Lozier was gone. Running to his private elevator. He planned a hasty escape.
When it opens.. He is grabbed by Captain Vasquez and his fellow Marines.
Back at the open section..
Alvin tries to wake his brother. He pats his face and says,"Simon we're safe now.. Please get up..
To his horror blood is slowly leaking from Simon's nose.
Alvin cries ,"No! "; then he buries his face on his brother's chest and starts to weep...
