Four months after the storm, Thanksgiving 2013
Callie and Arizona had a busy Thanksgiving, both of them having to work, so they shared a small Turkey dinner courtesy of the hospital in Arizona's office with Sofia, none of the pomp and circumstance that normally surrounded the holiday, just a family being together and that was all they wanted. Things had been a little tense after Arizona's declaration in her office the week before about knowing why she cheated, but sitting next to each other with their daughter and watching a little of the Macy's Day Parade on a tv she had brought in just for the occasion had been something they both needed.
Arizona was thankful she even still had a wife and partner and Callie felt exactly the same. They still had issues to work through but they didn't look back and dwell on past. They talked about everything, they talked all the time about what was going on in each others head and they never let it fester and grow. They moved forward and learned about each other all over again, being supportive and at the same time giving each other space when they needed it.
Callie went back to the cafeteria line where they had gotten their meals from earlier and picked up three pieces of pumpkin pie with some whipped cream, a little extra on Arizona's piece for her sweet tooth and brought them on a tray back to the office. Callie walked in to find Sofia clapping away and cheering every time a character came on the screen that she recognised. Callie put the tray down in front of her wife and daughter and sat back down beside them, her arm around Sofia's shoulder and giving Arizona a smile. Arizona returned it, her dimples popping as Sofia gave her loudest yell when Dora the Explorer came on the screen.
Callie smiled, gave Sofia a squeeze and asked a question she already knew the answer to but asked it anyway. "Is she your favourite Sof?"
Sofia turned her head to her Mommy and smiled. "Si Mommy, me encanta."
Callie's mouth hung open as Arizona did a double take. They knew she loved Dora and watched religiously but they both couldn't believe she picked up the language and so well. Callie looked at Arizona to make sure she wasn't imaging it.
"Did she just speak Spanish?"
Sofia had turned her attention back to the tv and wasn't paying attention to her mommies who both sat stunned still. "Yeah, she so did. It's not fair though."
Callie queried her wife with a chuckle. "Why, what's not fair?"
"She's two and she speaks Spanish better than I do."
Callie laughed, her head thrown back. She finally calmed down and looked at a pouting Arizona. Callie leaned over the top of Sofia who was still captivated by the television and kissed Arizona lightly on the lips until her pout went away.
Little kisses like that, lingering touches and looks at each other were increasing by the day and they both found it comforting that they were getting back to the affection they used to show to each other without even thinking about it and moments like these were a perfect example of it.
"Well maybe if you ask nicely Sofia might teach it to you."
Arizona gave Callie a mock glare and a little shove on the arm. "Smarty pants."
Callie just smiled at Arizona and turned her attention back to the screen. She picked Sofia up and balanced her daughter on her lap and scooted closer to Arizona until she could put her arm around her shoulder. Arizona snuggled into the embrace as the three of them sat together, feeding each other pumpkin pie until they had to go back to work and Sofia back to the day care.
None of them said it out loud but they were all thankful for a lot that day.
Five months after the storm, Christmas Eve 2013.
Christmas is a stressful time for a lot of people but to Arizona it was always her favourite time of year. Decorating the tree, hanging their stockings and even buying presents was fun to her. But Callie still wasn't living back home yet and Arizona wasn't sure how to approach the subject of Christmas this year but they both agreed to have it in apartment 502 so Sofia would be comfortable. Arizona's parents were coming in from Baltimore to see them because they didn't get to see them in person on Thanksgiving and because they knew Arizona probably still wouldn't get on a plane. Arizona was dreading seeing them face to face since she only confessed to them what had happened a month ago when she spoke to them on Thanksgiving.
Her mother had scolded her and her father had given her the 'I'm disappointed in you speech' but overall once she'd explained everything that had happened and that she was in therapy, that she and Callie were working it out, they both promised to let them sort it out and not interfere. Arizona was thankful for their understanding just like she had been for Callie's. She still kept her appointments with Stacey and Callie continued to support her while Arizona did the same. Listening to Callie talk about her and Derek's research, giving her encouragement when they hit snags or had setbacks. And Arizona kept her promise and asked for help when she needed it.
Arizona had stood in the OR for four hours now, her concentration absolute except for her leg which seemed to be hurting more and more by the minute. She really needed to get off her feet, maybe even take off her leg, but they still had at least another two hours to go. She sighed, racking her brain for a solution. She turned to her recently re-instated scrub nurse Anne and called her over. She whispered in her ear and turned her attention back to the patient as Anne briefly left the OR in search of one Dr Callie Torres. She found her right where Arizona said she'd be.
"Excuse me, Dr Torres."
Callie turned and found herself face to face with Anne. "Oh hey Anne, what's up?"
"Dr Robbins needs you in OR 2 as soon as you can."
"Why is something wrong? Is Arizona okay?"
"I'm not sure Dr Torres. She just asked me to get you right away."
Callie nodded and finished signing the chart in the hands, handed it back to the nurse on duty and followed Anne to the elevators and to OR 2. She looked through the scrub room windows and noticed that Arizona was hunched over slightly while she kept working on the patient, a little girl who had been in a horrible car crash. Callie knew what that meant so she quickly placed a mask over her face and scrubbed in before she entered the OR. Arizona looked up, her eyes showing the relief at the sight of her wife. Callie walked over and stood beside her so Arizona could speak to her privately.
"Cal, I need your help. Can you assist Karev for a little bit? I need to take a break, get off my feet, well foot."
"Of course. Take your time."
Arizona smiled at Callie behind her mask and looked over at Karev. "Alex, can you come around and take over. Callie will help you while I take a little break."
Alex looked at Arizona in concern but nodded and came around to take her place while Arizona breathed another sigh of relief. She watched Callie take Alex's place on the opposite side and met her eyes, always the most expressive part of Callie's face. They looked right back at her with no pity or judgement just telling her silently it was okay, that she could go and do what she needed to. Arizona smiled behind her mask again then walked out, removing her gloves and mask as she scrubbed out. She walked to the nearest on call room, locked the door, removed her pants and pulled her prosthetic from its place around the remaining stump and placed it beside her on the ground. She immediately felt a thousand times better as she sat there in her underwear, the pain dissipating with every passing moment.
A half an hour later Arizona re-joined Callie and Alex in the operating room and resumed the operation, Callie giving her what would have been a dazzling smile if it wasn't covered by her mask. Arizona returned the smile and completed a successful surgery. They stood side by side scrubbing out for a few moments before Arizona spoke up.
"Thank you Callie."
Callie dried her hands as she smiled to herself before meeting Arizona's gaze, not wanted to make a big deal out of it. "Anytime. We should get out of here, your parents will be arriving soon and I know Sofia is really looking forward to it."
Arizona smiled as she threw her towel in the bin. "She's not the only one."
Callie reached out for Arizona's hand. "Well, let's get a move on then."
Arizona nodded and followed Callie out of the scrub room, all the while thinking how easy it was to ask for help and how stupid she'd been in the past by being stubborn and trying to do it all herself. She was beyond happy that she was changing that habit, a little at a time, and getting help when she needed it and not letting her pride get in the way, especially when she had someone like Callie to be there for her.
After a quick stop to pick up Sofia from the day care they were on their way to Sea Tac to pick up Arizona's parents. As they stood in the busy terminal waiting for them to emerge Sofia couldn't and wouldn't stand still. As soon as she saw Daniel and Barbara she pulled her hands loose from her mommies and ran straight over to her grandparents, dodging other people left and right until she reached them.
"Poppy! Nana!"
Daniel picked Sofia up and twirled her around before bringing her down for kisses, her laughter echoing in the room. Barbara took her turn to kiss Sofia hello as Callie and Arizona finally joined them. Arizona hugged her mother while Callie hugged her father in law, a man who seemed gruff to those who didn't know him but he had always been a sweetheart to her and Sofia. Arizona switched with Callie and hugged her father, Sofia still perched on his hip as Callie hugged the woman whom she considered to be her mother now.
They all finally got into the car and Callie drove them to the Archerfield Hotel, checking them in before having dinner in the restaurant. With a promise to see them bright and early tomorrow to open presents, Callie, Arizona and Sofia were on their way home. Callie parked the car and took the elevator up to the fifth floor and was about to enter apartment 501 when Arizona put her hand on her arm, effectively stopping her. Sofia stirred slightly in Arizona's arms as the two of them stood in front of their respective doors.
"Wait a minute Cal, could you come inside. I want to ask you about something."
Callie nodded and followed Arizona into their home, putting a sleepy Sofia straight to bed with a promise that Santa would visit the next morning before joining Arizona in the lounge room. She sat beside Arizona, the lights of the Christmas tree twinkling all around the room, the gifts crowding the bottom of the tree, only waiting for Santa's to join them. Arizona fidgeted but finally got to the point after a few moments of silence.
"Callie, could you, would you, give me a massage? My leg has been hurting for the past couple of days."
Callie internally smiled to herself, she'd seen the signs herself but had waited for Arizona to ask and now that she had she was more than happy to help.
"How about we go into the bedroom and you can lay down. It might relax you a bit more and help ease the pain."
"Okay. Thank you Callie." Arizona stopped Callie from walking any further before pulling her surprised wife into a tight embrace.
"Any time Arizona, any time."
Arizona laid on the bed as Callie kneeled on the floor beside the bed, her prosthetic beside her as Callie began to knead and work the tired muscles in Arizona's residual limb. Arizona held back a moan as Callie's talented hands brought such relief that she started to fall asleep. Callie finished and looked at Arizona who was now out like a light. Callie pulled the blankets up to her chin, placed a small kiss to Arizona's forehead and quietly opened the closet to find the presents from Santa they'd hidden in there the other day. With one last glance at her slumbering wife Callie quickly added Santa's gifts to the pile and left, wishing she didn't have to but knowing it was for the best, at least for now.
Christmas Day 2014
Callie sat with her arm resting across the top of the couch while Arizona snuggled underneath it, the sound of It's A Wonderful Life echoed all around them as they sat contentedly together. Arizona eyes started to droop, it had been a long day of opening presents and having Arizona's parents visiting and a surprise extra guest only Arizona knew was coming.
Callie looked away from her family as a knock sounded on the door just as they were about to eat Christmas lunch. Callie looked at Arizona who only shrugged in reply but with a hint of a smile on her face. Callie put down her napkin and walked to the door. She looked through the peep-hole, flung the door open and pulled her father into a tight hug.
"Oh my God Daddy, what are you doing here?"
Carlos chuckled into his daughter's neck, kissed her cheek as he pulled back from the hug and took her face into his hands, placing another kiss to her forehead. "I came to spend Christmas with my daughters and my grand baby. Is that alright with you Calliope?"
Callie pulled Carlos into another bear hug, swaying them slightly as she laughed. "Of course not Daddy. I'm just surprised is all."
Carlos and Callie finally separated and it wasn't a second later he was attacked by her mini me.
"Grandpa! You came."
Carlos picked up his granddaughter with a groan. "Of course I came my Princess. My God you're getting big. What are your Mommies feeding you?"
Sofia shrugged. "I not sure. Mama says I eat like a horsey, but I like horsey's so I no want to eat them."
Carlos laughed at the innocence of the child he held in his arms and was soon catching up with Daniel and Barbara Robbins and his daughters as they sat around the table to enjoy their lunch. All three proud grandparents doting on Sofia who basked in the attention and no matter how many times Arizona or Callie chastised her, wouldn't stop showing off her new toys from them and most importantly, from Santa.
"And this my new teddy from Santa. He a doctor like my Mommies"
The brown teddy bear had a cute little first aid kit attached to one of its arms but the best part was the lab coat. It had been customised so it said Dr Sofia and the little girl had been thrilled when she'd opened the box it came in first thing that morning. Later that night when their parents were tired and decided to retreat back to their hotel and Callie and Arizona had finally been able to pry the bear from Sofia's arms to get her to take a bath, Dr Bear as Sofia had christened him, kept a watchful eye as she splashed around in the bathtub. Sofia finally fell asleep after a story read to her by mom's, Dr Bear clutched tightly in her arms.
Callie lightly shut the door and followed Arizona back into the kitchen to help her clear away the mess. When they were done it was Callie who suggested they watch the movie, Arizona quickly agreeing and joining her on the couch. Before they almost fell asleep together, tangled on the couch, Arizona looked Callie dead in the eye.
"Come home Callie."
"Are you sure we're ready for that?"
Arizona sat up and shook the cobwebs, taking Callie's face in her hands. "I want you to come home, I need you to come home and I think you do too. We've come so far and I know we're still working on everything but I think we should do it together. Here in our home, as a family. That's only if you want to of course."
Callie nodded and leaned forward to kiss Arizona lightly on the lips. "Of course I do. I'll move my clothes back in tomorrow. But right now it's late and I should go."
Arizona nodded her head in understand as the two of them hugged before Callie reluctantly went back to Mark's to spend one last night alone in her best friends bed.
Six months after the storm. January 2014
January was a month of turning points for Callie and Arizona. After Callie moved back in they slept in the same bed and cuddled but Callie was honest in needing a little bit more time before she could bring herself to have sex with Arizona. Arizona understood and gave Callie the time and space she needed. The first turning point came just after the new year when a large envelope arrived in the mail.
Callie had finished earlier than Arizona and had taken Sofia home when she decided to pick up the mail and start dinner for the three of them. As Sofia ran ahead to push the elevator call button, Dr Bear securely in her arms like he been since Christmas, Callie looked over the usual bills until she came across the envelope with the state seal addressed to both her and Arizona. Although her curiosity was peaked and she had a fair idea what this was, she decided to wait for Arizona to open it.
Callie made her famous Chicken Pikata and a salad, Arizona's favourite brownies for dessert and was pulling it all together when Arizona walked through the door and was accosted by Sofia before joining Callie in the kitchen. Callie started to plate the food as Arizona leaned up slightly for a kiss, the three of them enjoying their dinner before retreating back to the lounge to watch some television. Callie brought the envelope over and placed it in Arizona's lap as she also brought over two glasses and a bottle of champagne. Arizona looked it over and then back at Callie with raised eyebrows.
"What's all this for?"
"I waited for you, so if you would, do the honors and open it. And then we can celebrate."
Arizona ran her finger under the flap and opened the envelope, pulling out the paperwork inside. They looked at their now official marriage certificate. No more domestic partnership, no more being second class citizens. There it was, Callie and Arizona's names in bold black print, issued by the state of Washington and now as legally binding as every other person who takes the plunge, gay or straight. Arizona looked at Callie and smiled.
"After everything that happened it totally slipped my mind this was happening after the new year."
"I admit I did too until I saw it today, but isn't it cool. We are finally one hundred percent married." Callie took Arizona's hand and kissed her palm before popping the champagne. "But having said that, we've always been married. I didn't need some piece of paper to tell me otherwise."
Arizona squealed and hugged Callie, Sofia joining in for a family hug as they celebrated a new beginning in a new year.
The second turning point was near the end of January after Callie had been home for nearly a month and was giving Mark's place a dust and vacuum on her day off. She looked around at her once temporary home, not really feeling like this was really Mark's place anymore. His aftershave no longer lingered in the air and without his clothes hanging in the closet and his photos lining the walls it just felt like any other apartment to her. There was no sentiment left in those four walls so Callie brought up the issue with Arizona that night as they were lying in bed.
Arizona draped herself across Callie's body and played with necklace that hung around her neck. Callie ran a lazy hand through the blonde tresses tickling her chin and sighed. Arizona sat up and looked down at a pensive Callie, she'd been quiet all night and it was worrying Arizona.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Come on Cal, seriously, what's wrong?"
"I was thinking it's time to sell Mark's place. It doesn't feel like his anymore and it's just sitting there gathering dust. I mean, I don't want to but it feels like the right time."
"I understand. It's hard to let go of something that holds so many memories. It's up to you though."
Callie stroked Arizona's cheek with her thumb as she looked up at her wife. "It's up to us. We have to make these decisions together. We didn't do that before and look how that turned out. I want your opinion on this. Mark was my best friend and Sofia's father but I'd like to think he was special to you too."
"He was. We didn't always get along but in the end, in the woods with everything as messed up as it was, he was dying and he was devastated over Lexie and yet he still kept thinking of Sofia and you and telling me I needed to live so I could be there for the both of you because he wouldn't be."
Callie felt a tear roll down her face, Arizona gently wiping it away as she continued. "He was my friend and I loved him but I think you're right. If it just feels like an apartment now and if you're ready to let it go, then we'll sell it. What do you think we should do with the money?"
Callie sat up and took Arizona's hand, squeezing it in silent thanks. "I think we should put in into trust for Sofia. Since the settlement money is tied up in the hospital this should be for her."
Arizona smiled at her thoughtful wife and leaned in for a kiss. "I love that idea and I think it's perfect. Now we just have to find a buyer."
Callie laughed. "Right across the road from the hospital, it'll take a week." Arizona joined in the laughter, knowing it was so true.
As it turned out Callie was absolutely correct. Arizona was sitting in the cafeteria in between surgeries trying to write out a description of the apartment and fill out the paperwork so she could send it to the real estate agent. They had already had the apartment evaluated a couple of days ago and all that was needed was their go ahead to put it on the market. Arizona chewed on the end of her pen, the cafeteria quiet since it was only her and a couple of interns across the way at that moment. Arizona was joined by April who sat down opposite her and started to eat her lunch.
Arizona looked up and smiled at her friend and put down her pen as April finished swallowing a sip of her drink. Married life looked good on her friend and she'd been proud to stand as a bridesmaid at April's beautiful country wedding to Matthew right after Thanksgiving.
"Whatcha doing Arizona?"
"I'm writing a description of the Mark's old place so we can put it on the market."
"Is it the same as your place? With those hardwood floors, fireplace and two bedrooms with en-suites."
"It's a mirror of ours, but yeah, it's exactly the same."
"You know Matthew and I are looking for a new place. It has to be somewhere near the hospital and we need two bedrooms."
"I thought you liked the place you're in now. I thought you said it was perfect for the two of you."
April smiled behind her drink before replying. "It is, but we want more, something bigger. We've been to the bank and got a loan approved so now we just need to find it. And our place has only one bedroom and we need two, we really need two."
Arizona gave April a smirk and tilted her head to the side in understanding. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
April grinned and leaned conspiratorially across the table and answered in a whisper. "I'm nearly two months along and Matthew and I want to do this now and not later. Please keep this quiet, Matthew's only told his partner Nicole and I've only told you, so if you could..."
Arizona put her hand over her mouth to stop herself from squealing before putting her hand over April's and whispering to the red head across from her. "Of course. I'm so happy for you both and it would be awesome to have you and Matthew and baby to be as our neighbours."
April laughed. "Well it all depends on how much you're asking."
Arizona slid the paperwork across the table. April checked the figure and frowned before handing it back to Arizona. "Unfortunately, it's about fifty grand out of our price range, but thanks anyway." April checked her watch and sighed. "I should get back. It's so nice to finally tell someone." A smile adorned her face, Arizona returning it in kind. "I'll see you later Arizona."
"Bye." As April walked away Arizona whipped out her phone and sent a text to Callie, asking her wife where she was and if she was joining her for lunch still. Callie replied immediately, she was a minute away. Arizona sipped her drink as Callie finally arrived, kissing Arizona on the cheek before asking her how her day was. Arizona didn't want to say anything since the cafeteria was quickly filling and anyone could overhear now.
"I'll tell you tonight."
Later that night as they laid in bed Arizona finally told Callie about April and her good news.
"Holy crap! Are you telling me April Kepner, the Virgin Mary, is knocked up?"
"April was telling me the other day she and Matthew have been frequent visitors to the carnival since the wedding. And she told me you wouldn't know Matthew wasn't a carny his whole life."
Callie laughed and looked at Arizona who simply smiled back at her. "What do you mean Matthew's a carny?"
Arizona leaned closer to Callie. "Apparently, he knows his way around the carnival and he knows all the tricks."
Callie burst out laughing, her stomach starting to hurt as it jiggled from the force of her laughter. "Oh my God, that is hilarious! April and Matthew, you dirty dogs you."
As Callie finally calmed down and wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes Arizona took her hand and stoked her thumb along the top.
"April told me they need to get a new place with two bedrooms and they have a loan and everything."
Callie knew Arizona well enough to know where this was going but decided it was more fun to make Arizona squirm. "And?"
"Well she's interested in Mark's place but it's out of their price range."
Callie folded her arms across her chest and stared Arizona down. "By how much exactly?"
Arizona broke eye contact and mumbled under her breath. Callie put her hand behind her ear and turned her head towards Arizona. "What was that? I didn't quite hear you."
"Fifty thousand. They'd need us to drop the price by fifty thousand dollars."
Callie shrugged. "Okay."
Arizona did a double take. "Really? You're serious. We can drop the price."
"Of course. April and Matthew are our friends and what they will pay is more than enough to cover Sofia's education, so yeah, let's do it."
Arizona launched herself into Callie's arms and hugged her to within an inch of her life, kissing all over her face, finally kissing her deeply until they were both breathless and heaving.
"I love you Callie."
"I love you too Arizona. You can tell April the good news tomorrow but for now, I think I'm in the mood for one of our Junior High make outs."
Arizona let herself be lowered to the bed as she nodded vigorously while Callie hovered above her before leaning in for a kiss. "Awesome."
Early the next morning after a heated make out session that left them both wanting more, Arizona woke alone in the bed, the light from the bathroom the only indication of where her wife might be. She knocked quietly on the door and hear a muffled reply from Callie. Arizona could hear the water running and a moment later Callie emerged, her eyes puffy and her face blotchy from crying. Callie pulled Arizona into a tight embrace, her sobs echoing in the room as a dumbfounded Arizona tried to soothe her tears.
"Callie, shh, it's okay. Tell me what's wrong."
Callie's crying continued for a few moments before she finally started to regain control. She pulled her face from Arizona's shoulder and wiped at her tears while Arizona held her face in her hands, wanting desperately to know what had upset her wife.
"I'm sorry."
"No Cal, don't be. Just tell me what's wrong."
Callie sat on the bed and brought Arizona with her, their hands tightly clutched together. "It's just, you telling me about April, it made me think of our baby, the one I lost. He or she would've nearly been a year old now and hearing about April brought it all up for me."
Arizona kissed the side of Callie's head and put her arm around Callie's waist, pulling her closer until they were moulded together. Callie had told her about losing the baby but they hadn't really talked about it and Callie had carried the burden alone for far too long.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't there to help you through this Callie. I'm sorry you didn't feel like you could've told me about this sooner. But most of all, I'm sorry that this happened to you, to us. That baby would've been so loved."
"You needed me to be there for you after the crash."
"Yeah, I did, but you needed me too. We're supposed to be there for each other, so talk to me about it. Tell me what's going on in your head right now."
Callie sighed and told Arizona every detail of the day she miscarried their child, how much pain she'd been in and the only thing that got her through was hearing the news that Arizona was indeed still alive. Arizona held Callie while they talked about whether it would've been a boy or a girl, what he or she would've looked like and what they would've named the baby. Arizona locked eyes with Callie as she stoked her cheek gently with her thumb.
"We should try again. I mean, not tomorrow, but soon. I can see us with Sofia and a little one, walking through the park, arguing over whose turn it is to do the 3am feeding, both feeling so tired yet so worth it when we look at our little bundle of joy."
"Don't you think we should have sex first before we try to have another kid?" Callie smiled as she asked, Arizona smiling too before kissing her wife's lips.
"I'm ready when you are Callie and when you feel ready to try again for another child, I'll be ready then too. And if for any reason it doesn't go according to plan, we'll be there for each other."
Callie and Arizona soon fell asleep in each others arms, both dreaming of the child that never was and the child that could be.
Seven months after the storm. Monday, February 10 2014.
The time was right, Callie could feel it in her bones. She was so ready to have sex with Arizona. Sure, they'd enjoyed a lot of make out sessions, each time going a little further but Callie was always the one who pulled away before it got to the event horizon, the point of no return. But Callie was ready now and nothing was going to hold her back anymore. She secured a babysitter and she booked them a long weekend away starting on Valentines Day which happened to be a Friday. They were finally going to that B&B they never got to go to when they had the car accident that nearly killed her and Sofia. She had such a good feeling about this weekend and she couldn't wait, even if it meant being away from Sofia for a couple of days.
Callie opened the door to the board room and entered to find the usual suspects around the table. She took a seat next to Arizona and sneakily put her hand on her thigh, rubbing it lightly up and down while Arizona gave her a sparkly eyed smile. The board meeting finally commenced a short time later. After reading the minutes from the last meeting Jackson stood and opened the door to allow his mother, Catherine Avery, to join them. Jackson sat back down as Catherine took charge.
"As you may know, this time of year is when we give out the annual Harper Avery Awards. And since we've come on board here at Grey-Sloan Memorial we've decided to show you all off. We want our dignitaries to see the innovation being carried out under this roof and so, instead of holding the awards at Mass Gen. we've decided to hold it right here. Our five finalists are coming in later today as well as some old fuddy duddies you don't need to worry about, I'll handle them, I have done for years."
A murmur of laughter cascaded around the room as Catherine continued. "The only think I ask is you show our VIP finalists around and make them feel welcome."
Catherine handed a list to Derek first, he took one glance and his eyes immediately shot up to look at Callie and Arizona. He handed the list to Meredith who did the same before passing it on to Cristina. Cristina, being Cristina, couldn't help but snort with laughter.
"Oh man, this is gonna be fun."
Callie and Arizona both noticed the looks, so Callie shot up and reached across the table, snatching the list from a still laughing Cristina's hands and brought it back for her and Arizona to read. The first three names meant nothing to them, it was the fourth and fifth that had them both reeling.
Finalist NO. 4 - Erica Hahn, Cardiothorasics.
Finalist NO. 5 - Lauren Boswell, Plastics.
Only one thought entered a speechless Callie's mind. Good feeling gone.
Hello. Dear fan fiction readers, please forgive me for I have sinned. It has been far too long since my last update and I hope you don't hate me too much! Life really got in the way, including sickness, my best friend finally having her baby (9 pounder named Xander, guess who grew up Buffy fans!) and then last week my brother was cycling home and got hit by a car. He's okay but he had to have surgery on his hand, and just like our very own Derek Shepard, he may never get 100% use back in that hand, it's a wait and see at this moment. So anyway, I hope you all liked it, let me know and thank you all so much for reading and commenting. Tigersforever. P.S. to those of you who are Japril fans, it's nothing against Jackson, I just love Matthew and I think he and April as so good together and I didn't want to do the wedding drama thing in this story, it's all about the Calzona, so I have ignored that storyline.
