"Ladies," Dr. Mathews said as he walked into the room with Olivia's file in his hands, "Please tell me what happened yesterday."

"We had made it home after the trial and I lost control of my temper," Olivia said, looking at the ground, "For the first time ever, I have turned my anger to Alex."

"What triggered it?"

"Jess, the woman who abused me for years and shot Olivia, testified yesterday," Alex explained when Olivia shrugged her shoulders and wouldn't answer the doctor, "She had to sit and listen to her place the blame on me."

"You sat through the trial yesterday?" Dr. Mathews asked, raising his eyebrows at Olivia.

"I haven't missed a day yet," Olivia said, raising her head and staring at the doctor as if she was challenging him.

"Olivia, we talked about this when I saw you at the start of the trial. It was going to be too stressful for you to attend every day, especially when Jess was testifying."

"Alex needed me there," Olivia said as she continued to challenge the doctor with her eyes.

"I have good news for you two then," Dr. Mathews said, turning to face Alex, "I believe that the outburst from yesterday was caused by the extreme stress and emotional rollercoaster that she has been on and nothing more. It is almost time for her next functioning MRI so, I have already secured it and we will go ahead and perform that test today, just to be sure."

"If not?" Alex asked, wanting to know what else to look for.

"If not, then I want to have her admitted to the hospital for…."

"I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK INTO THE HOSPITAL," Olivia screamed as she jumped down from the exam table and reached for her jacket.

"Yes, the hell you will," Alex ordered as she jumped up and jerked Olivia's jacket from her grasp, "You will go in the hospital and you will do what he says."

"If I go in, who is going to protect you?"

"If you don't, who is going to protect me?"

Olivia opened her mouth and then closed it, trying to find the words to argue with Alex, but unable to. Realizing that she was defeated and, no matter what, eventually Alex would get her way, she took her seat back on the exam table and dropped her head.

"Sorry," Alex said as she took her seat and looked at Dr. Mathews to continue with what he was saying.

"As I was saying," Dr. Mathews said, continuing on, shaking his head at the two women, "I would want to admit her into the hospital for, at the very least, overnight, but, truthfully, I do see the stay lasting longer. We need to observe her around the clock and see what triggers her and what doesn't. Then, I can get with her behavioral therapist and together we can work out a new regime for her to follow."

"Okay, do what you have to do," Alex answered, standing and walking over to Olivia.

"I'm going to give you ladies a few minutes alone while I go and make sure that the machine is ready for us. Do either of you have any other questions?"

"What about work?" Olivia asked, finally raising her head to look at the doctor.

"Let's get through this first and then we can talk about work," Dr. Mathews said as he walked out the door.

"Liv?" Alex said gently as she moved to stand in front of her, trying to catch her attention.

"Yeah, Alex," Olivia mumbled, too ashamed to look at Alex.

"One thing at time, honey, okay?" Alex said as she lifted her head so she could look into her eyes.

"If I can't work, then I can't support you, not that I could anyways."

"I don't need or want your monetary support. I need and want your emotional support and unconditional love, that's all and nothing more."

"I have to do something."

"I told you we will find you something if you can't go back to being a detective, but, please Olivia, let's get over this mountain before we climb the next, okay?"

"I'm scared, well, try more like, terrified."

"I know and whatever comes our way, we'll face it together, just like everything else, okay?"

"Yeah, I'm just so worried."

"Which isn't helping your recovery any either. So, I want you to stop and relax. Don't worry about anything but getting better, that's it."

"Would you really stay with me if I can't work anymore?"

"Is that your fear?" Alex asked, realizing how many times Olivia had alluded to this.

"Why stay with an incompetent fool like me?"

"I would have to say because this incompetent fool, as you call yourself, has my heart and has had it since I met you. That is why I will stay with this beautiful, strong, woman that is nowhere near incompetent."

"Alex," Olivia whispered her voice raw with emotion, "I love you."

"I love you, too, and I promise you that I will be here with you every step of the way, no matter what direction it takes us, okay?"

"Yeah," Olivia said with a smile finally crossing her face for the first time today.

Alex smiled as she wiped the few tears that had fallen from Olivia's eyes. She leaned down and kissed her just as she heard a knock on the door.

"I'm so sorry, ladies," Angela said as she walked into the room.

"It's okay, Angela, we are more than use to it now," Olivia said, laughing.

"Dr. Mathews is ready for you now."

"Okay."

"Do you have any questions before I take you for your testing?"

"I believe we are becoming experts on it, don't you, Angela?" Alex said, laughing as she took Olivia's hand and helped her off the table even though she didn't need it.

"You never can tell and the last thing I would ever want to do is to take a patient into testing and their questions or their loved ones' questions are not answered."

"We're good," Olivia answered, smiling up at Angela and winking at her as she took a seat in the wheelchair before looking back at Alex, "Will you be here when I'm done?"

"Always have been and always will be."
