Olivia stopped as she entered Alex's room and stared. Alex was wearing a little black dress that clung to her perfect figure in all the right places and Olivia was willing to bet cost more than her paycheck. Her hair was flowing freely and she knew without a doubt that she was wearing her black glasses that seemed to set everything off. The one thing that struck Olivia though while standing there and out right staring at Alex was the fact that everything about her screamed money and lots of it.
Alex looked into the mirror when she felt Olivia's eyes on her. She felt a shiver course through her body at the appreciative once over she was receiving and swallowed hard when their eyes met in the mirror. Alex could see the desire and want in Olivia's eyes but what really caused her throat to close up was the amount of love that was out shining everything else. What caused her to tilt her head in a questioning manner was the flash of fear that Olivia quickly tried to hide.
"Want to tell me what's wrong?" Alex asked as she turned to face the brunette giving her an appreciative once over as well.
"You're beautiful." Olivia mumbled as she once again allowed her eyes to rove over the blonde's body.
"This is a problem?" Alex asked as she mentally gave herself a high five for the dress she had chosen. She had wanted a dress that would stop Olivia in her tracks and leave her speechless when she saw her in it. By the way Olivia's jaw dropped as she closed the distance between them she had done just that.
"Not a problem." Olivia answered as she shook her head trying to concentrate on what Alex was saying and not her body "just wondering if I should be worried?"
"Worried about?" Alex asked as she rolled her eyes at what it took to extract information from Olivia at times. She was pretty confident that she had better luck at making rapists and child molesters confess on the stand than to get a straight forward answer from the detective.
"You look that good and we're about to go meet your ex-girlfriend, who is admittedly your first love, for dinner."
"We are and her wife, Trevor and his fiancé" Alex answered turning her head to the side to study Olivia "Do you not want to go tonight? I can call and cancel."
"It's not that."
"Then what is it?'
"Alex she's your first love." Olivia answered stepping away from the blonde and running her hands through her hair "What's to stop her from getting back with you or going after you?"
"On her end I'm hoping her she takes her wedding vows seriously but on my end that would be my love for you and your love for me."
"She's going to take one look at you and want you back and I can't compete with her. She's a CEO for some company and I'm a civil servant, a cop, she can offer you so much more."
"Let's get a few things straight right now." Alex said placing her hand on a still retreating Olivia "Let's start with you're not just a cop you're a detective and a damn fine one as well. Secondly if we want to get technical I'm a civil servant myself. I am employed by the city of New York the same as you only difference is I'm employed as an Assistant District Attorney and not an officer of the law. Lastly, yeah she may have money and in your mind can offer me so much more than you can but she can't give me the one thing that I want and need, something that you can and have given and better yet continue to give me on a daily basis."
"What is that?" Olivia hesitantly asked when Alex didn't continue.
"Unconditional love." Alex answered with a smile as she placed a gently kiss on Olivia's lips.
"Not that I mind, because believe me I don't, but do you have to look so damn hot. Good lord one look at you and she's going to realize what a mistake she made walking away from you. It's going to be hard enough fighting her for you but looking like that I'm going to have to fight the whole damn restaurant."
"I love you." Alex said laughing at Olivia and her way of explaining her uneasiness about the whole situation. "Yes I do have to look 'so damn hot' as you gracefully put it."
"Looks like I'm about to spend my night fighting and letting people, males and females alike, know you are taken." Olivia growled with a hint of possessiveness in her voice as she pulled Alex tight against her.
"Oh there will be no doubt in anyone's mind tonight that I belong to you and you belong to me." Alex answered with a smile as she placed her hand on her chest "I will make that clear the second we enter the restaurant."
"Then save this dress for a night that it's just me and you, not a night when we are about to meet your first love."
"Be honest with me Olivia, are you scared that me seeing her again will stir up some buried feelings and I will go back to her?"
"She's your first love Alex." Olivia almost whined "Our first love always holds a small part of our heart and with you looking like this I have to wonder."
"I want you to put that thought out of your head because there will only be two ways I will ever leave you. One of us dies or you tell me that you no longer want to be with me. That's it."
"I don't want to imagine my life without you." Olivia stated as tears began to form in her eyes.
"Then that makes two of us." Alex answered breathing a sigh of relief. There were still times that she was terrified that Olivia would walk away and decide that it was too much to be with her or realize that she could do better with someone else.
"I would still feel better if you weren't wearing that little black dress though."
"At least you're honest." Alex answered with another laugh "Honey what is the one thing you want to do whenever you are about to meet an ex-girlfriend for the first time in years."
"Look hot like you do."
"Exactly and what are these nice little black dresses mostly used for?"
"A way to say look how great I look and you lost out on this.'
"Bingo."
"But your break-up was friendly."
"Yes it was."
"There's no need for this."
"Let me ask you Olivia have you not made sure you looked your absolute best simply because you knew an ex would be where you would be?"
"Yes." Olivia answered like a child who had just gotten scolded.
"That's because no matter how amicable the break up was there is this small piece in you that wants to do a little show off. A little see what you could have had but you lost your chance. A chance to show how great you're doing and that's what this is. The fact that I get to walk into that restaurant on the arm of one smoking hot detective is the icing on the cake. I not only get to do a see what you lost but I get to thank her because had she not walked away I wouldn't be with you. And to be totally honest it's a chance for me to go yeah your wife is beautiful and great but she doesn't even come close to my girlfriend."
Olivia looked away and blushed.
"What I need to know from you is." Alex said as she guided Olivia's face back so she was looking into her eyes "Do you want to go to this dinner? Because if you don't all I need is five minutes to call and cancel and then we can change and snuggle on the couch together while we wait for takeout to arrive or we could slowly undress each other and make love for hours on end."
"How about you show me off at dinner and then we come back here and I will demonstrate my love for you till the early morning hours." Olivia whispered into Alex's ear as she leaned forward causing goose bumps to erupt all over her skin.
Alex moaned as she grabbed Olivia by the hand and led her from the apartment. She was determined to make this one of the quickest dinners in history so she could get back home to where she belonged, wrapped safely and securely in Olivia's loving arms.
A/N: I know there may be some of you that as you read this didn't agree with what Alex was doing. In reality though no matter how easy of a break up we've had when we know we are going to run into our Ex we make damn sure we look beyond our best. If for no other reason than to make their heads turn and their mouth drop, especially if its our first love. Now how will all this play out at dinner?
