So this chapter portrays two King Clarksons, I think it's kind of interesting. Also, Aspen is included! Hope you guys like, and as always, love y'all!
King Clarkson's POV:
"This isn't bad. It could be worse. This is good." I try to convince myself. But it doesn't work.
The chair makes a loud thwack when it hits the ground. I kick it again, and again, and again. "How. Did. This. HAPPEN?!" I roar. Forty percent input? That's IT?!
"Calm down. Keep a level head. Don't do anything you'll regret," the smart part of me says. But the irrational part doesn't pay any attention.
"Clarkson?" Amberly walks into our bedroom. "I heard a noise. Are you alright?" she asks. I smile grimly, containing my anger. "I'm fine, darling. Thank you." I say. She frowns, unconvinced. Even when frowning, my wife is beautiful. Silky brown hair, almond shaped hazel eyes, soft red lips, a perfect figure. But that's not the only reason I love her. Smart, caring, a perfect Queen. She's exactly what I need to balance me out, to make me whole. Sometimes, I forget that.
"You're upset about the decision of the people, aren't you. Well, don't be. It could of been worse. I don't understand why you wanted to hurt that lovely girl in the first place." she says. Lovely girl. What a joke.
"Don't talk to me like that." I snap. My anger finally got the best of me. She winces. "I'll be going now." Amberly excuses herself. I almost call after my wife, but decide against it.
I'm not going to waste my time on her.
America's POV:
"Lady America, why don't we start planning your birthday ball?" Silvia suggests during our afternoon study session.
"My birthday is over a month away!" I tell her. February 26th, in fact. She smiles, and subtly shakes her head. "Lady America, you might become Queen soon. A Queen always plans ahead of time." she informs me.
Well, guess I'll have to get used to this. In Carolina I only ever had one birthday party, when I turned 15. My singing and piano playing had earned extra money that year, and I was allowed to invite five friends over. Aspen came of course, my parents and his mother are friends. His sisters came, along with my two friends Hadley and Arya. We had cake and played card games. That was one of the best days of my life.
"Well, what do you think?" Silvia questions, snapping me out of my daze. She looks at me expectantly. "It sounds...," I look for the right words, "...wonderful!" Silvia smiles, happy. I know it's just a distraction, and I'm thankful for it. Still..."Let's get started right away." she declares.
The rest of the afternoon is spent picking color schemes and selecting wine. I actually start to get excited about it, until my backside starts hurting. "I think we need a break, Silvia." I stand and stretch. "We've been here all day." I complain. She just nods. "Let's do this tomorrow, same time." is her only reply. I walk out of the Women's Room, and head for the gardens. Time for some fresh air.
"Mer!" I hear a familiar voice call my name. I turn. "Aspen!" I exclaim. My former-boyfriend-now-friend walks towards me. "How are you?" he asks, wrapping me in an embrace. "I would've of talked to you sooner, but I was afraid his Royal Highness would be keeping you occupied." he smirks. I laugh.
"I'm fine. Yes, Maxon has been taking care of me. Don't worry." I assure him. He becomes serious. "It's my job to worry, Mer. I'm your friend." he replies. In his eyes, I see that he isn't entirely okay with being just a friend. He's not over me. "Well, in that case, worry all you want." I joke. His smile returns. "I will."
We talk for a little while longer, until it is time for the guards to rotate. "See you later?" Aspen asks hopefully. "Definitely." I reply. He smiles, and as he does, I can't help but yearn for what we had. It was so sweet, so simple. But now I have Maxon, I remind myself. Yes. Now I have Maxon. And that's all I need.
I turn and walk away, forever forgetting my first love.
Hello, me again. Hope you liked this chapter! If you have any ideas or things you'd like to see in America's Birthday Ball, just review! I am gladly open for suggestions!
