Ok first sooo sorry for the wait guys and gals. I had to find out the hard way that life can be a bitch, and not the fun kind, but you're not here to listen to me complain. Nope you're here to find out what the next chapter of my tale is so here you go.
Oh almost forgot.I don't own Left 4 dead so Valve please do not sue me I'm already broke enough.
Jay's POV
Ok something is really wrong with Dawn, not only is she not listening but she's shaking like a leaf. "Dawn please, what's wrong, are you hurt or something." No response. "Look Dawn we got to move that horde will be here any minute." Still no response and we're running out of time so I reach forward to grab her arm and drag or carry her with us. She backs up from me as her eyes now flash golden and she made a low growl. Wait did she just growl at me and are her muscles tightening up. She can't be about to attack me can she? But before I can question further she turned and ran. "Dawn wait where are you going." I was going to run after her but someone grabbed my arm. I turn to see to was Frank.
"Come on kid we got to go now just forget her" he said as he basically dragged me along till reality kicked in and I remembered the others and the horde that was on the way. Dammit it all to the coldest reaches of Hell. I'll find you Dawn, I swear it just stay safe till then.
Dawn's POV
5 minutes earlier
I killed the weak ones like Jay asked but I didn't smell the fat one in time to stop him from spiting up on my human and the others. I was on my way to see if Jay was ok when I smelled something that made me feel weird.
Attack them. Said a mysteriously wicked voice that came from nowhere.
Who said that? I looked around for that source of the voice but couldn't find it anywhere.
Kill them all!
Eat them before they flee!
I quickly realized that the voice was in my own head. It was like smelling that puke is doing something to my mind. I try to silence the voice but it's so strong and I'm afraid that I might-
"Dawn… go." What did Jay say something? "We got to move now Dawn that horde will be here soon."
Yes kill him now before the others show up
No I can't Jay is my friend I won't hurt him!
You don't honestly believe that do you. The voice chuckles. You are a Witch the strongest of all the infected and he is just a lowly human. He is either food or a plaything for your entertainment not your 'friend'.
Shut up.
The others will kill you the moment you least expect it and will move on like you never existed.
"Dawn please, what's wrong, are you hurt or something."
Do you really think he actually likes you; he just keeps you around to use you.
He doesn't like.
Shut up! I can feel myself getting angry.
He won't care about you.
Shut Up! I tense up my muscles and growl a little as if I could scare or kill the voice in my head.
He will never love you.
SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP! I can feel my eye burning with fiery anger but only now notice that Jay was standing in front of me with a look of concern, fear, and sadness mix together on his face. Oh no I could have hurt Jay by accident or worse. I…I can't be around him anymore or I might kill him accidentally. He reaches for me but I take a step back. I'm sorry. I turn and run and for the first time in three days I let my tears stream down my face.
Jay's POV
"Keep running." Frank yelled as he shot his shotgun and took out three infected behind us, but the horde was still after us and they weren't showing signs of slowing down. Our saving grace was that the bile was off our clothes from all the running. Now we just have to finish off this horde then I can search for Dawn.
"There up ahead." Sam pointed to a river just front of us. "The cabin is on the other side and but the current is pretty strong so be careful. Jay you carry Alice across."
"Ok come on Alice." I picked up Alice and rushed in the water with Sam, Frank, and Jacky behind me. And Sam was right the current is pretty strong but thankfully it isn't that wide. Behind us the infected, run on base instincts, were swept away by the current growling and screaming. "At least we don't have to worry about them anymore."
"Yeah we finally catch a brea-. "What every Jacky was going to say was cut short by a Smoker constricting her from back the way we came, causing her to fall in the river.
"Jacky!" Frank tries to save her but the Smokers tongue is too fast and drags her back to shore. Once she resurfaces she only has time to say one thing.
"Run!" And with that the Smoker's wraps around her neck and snaps it in one motion.
"Nooo! You bastard!" Sam takes the chance to shot the Smoker in the head with his rifle. With that we all look at Jacky's lifeless body. Sadly there was no time for a prayer or a proper burial. We have to keep moving, to honor her memory.
"Wait, what are you doing Jay? We have to go back for Jacky." I looked down at Alice as we make our way to the opposite side of the river, away from Jacky's lifeless body.
"She's gone Alice" I tell her as I put her down on the ground while trying to sound as sincere as possible.
She looks at Sam then at me before asking. "You mean she's… she's?"
"Dead kid she's dead D-E-A-D and we will be to if we don't move." Frank states as if it was no big deal or something casual. I wanted to tear him a new one but he had a point. It was going to be dark soon and we can't stay here any longer. So without any more words we followed Sam to the cabin, with Alice holding my hand and Frank keeping lookout behind us, where we will be safe for tonight and then I'll go look for Dawn. I just hope she is okay.
20 minutes later
Finding the cabin was easy, it only took 4 minutes and another 10 to make sure it was safe and secure, but now came the hard part, and unfortunately it was two against one. "Look I said I would go myself I'm not going to just abandon her!" I argued with Sam and Frank to let me through so I could go and find Dawn.
"Look Jay I know you care about her but for whatever reason she ran from us and she is a witch she can take care of herself." Sam tried to rationalize the situation but it was no use. "Jay you can't go out there and search when it's getting dark especially by yourself."
"I say just leave that witch to out there away from us."I glared at Frank for that comment. "It was just a matter of time before something like this happened. Just be disappointed that I didn't get to end the bitch myself." I balled up my fists and was really to hit Frank in his jaw and rush out to Dawn but Sam cut it.
"Shut up Frank."
"So now you're taking his side Sam"
"I'm just saying that Dawn can still be useful to us, but we can't go out and search for her when it's getting dark. Plus what if she's gone feral and attacks us. And who knows where to even start looking. She could be anywhere Jay. Besides I think I can fix the radio in the kitchen and call for help."
"I don't care I'm going out to find her, bring her back, and then we are all getting rescued. Now move Sam."
"I will if you tell me this. Why are you so determined to keep her safe? In case you forgot she is an infected, a witch, and regardless of how she acts now she can still kill anyone or thing with ease."
I thought very hard on this question but the answer was so clear it was transparent.
"Because when I found her I had seen a couple of guys about to do something horrible to her and I stopped it and saved her but I cried after she was free. Not for the lives I took but for the fact that human beings were worse than the infected. But after I was done I looked at her, in to her eyes, and saw that she was scared. Anger, rage, and hunger is what I expected from the infected I saw thus far but in her eyes was nothing but innocence, sorrow, and fear and again when we meet in the warehouse. The look she has in those eyes just made want to hold her and take everything that can hurt her for her. So I'll protect her from the evil in the world till I die and not a moment sooner!" I meant every word I said to. I will find Dawn and I will get her someplace safe. I was done arguing about this so I pushed my way through Sam and Frank and rushed out in the woods, with only my pistol, machete, and a backpack with limited of supplies.
"Please wait for me Dawn."
