His heart didn't seem to want to calm down. Bruno watched the road intensely in front of him with huge eyes, afraid to look back and see a huge alligator still chasing them.
He hadn't even realized how tightly he was hugging Raphael to his chest until the turtle began to squirm, gasping for breath. "L-let me… go!" Raph whined. Bruno loosened the hug and allowed Raph to sit comfortably in his lap, where the said turtle took an over dramatic gasp for air.
Raph bit his lip and forced the tears down as his body began to tremble. Fear laced every being's heart in the car. Except the fear the plagued the young turtle wasn't the same as the others, he didn't fear the large mutant alligator, he feared that he wouldn't see his family or that large mutant alligator, ever again.
Bruno looked down at Raph, taking in the shaking shoulders, and frowned. He looked at Jason who was still desperate to catch his breath and then back at Raph. "Ever thing's going to be ok now." He said awkwardly.
He took a large breath and let it out slowly when Raphael didn't reply. But Bruno couldn't blame him; the large yellow eyes of the mutant still were curved out in his mind, blinking with anger and what Bruno could have sworn was hunger. He had had only a second to react as he suddenly ran back towards the car; a giant clawed hand swing where he had only been moments before. Bruno held Raphael close to his chest as he quickly threw himself into the car, only to realize he had gotten in on the wrong side and Jason was trying to squish himself onto the same driver's seat. Bruno quickly jumped seat, kicking Jason in the face during the process and awkwardly landed heavily into the passenger seat' yelling at Jason to drive.
Bruno blinked out of the small flashback and took a deep breath before turning his head quickly to see if they had actually lost the rampaging alligator. They had really lost it about ten minutes ago, but Bruno swore he could still hear its distant roar ringing in his ears.
Bruno glanced down at Raphael who now didn't look worried, sad, or even the least bit frightened. He just looked plain mad. He was slumped in a grumpy pout as he glared out the part of the window he could actually see through. Raph furrowed his eye ridges deeper to help the effect of his crossed arms and puckered lip, letting everyone know he was completely ticked.
Bruno pressed his lips together, "What's wrong with ya?" Bruno asked, bouncing the turtle on his knee as they drove. "You were so talkative before!" Raphael only responded by giving out a huff of air and deepening his glare.
Raph tensed when Bruno placed a hand on the back of his shell. He felt a growl like whimper make its way up his throat. He was scared. Raphael had no idea when or even if he would get to see his family again, but he refused to show it. Even as the tears began to brim around his eyes, he gulped them down. If Splinter had taught him anything, it was not to give yourself a way to the enemy. Or in this case, to the humans.
Raph felt the sudden urge to scream, kick and scratch until he got what he wanted.
"Come on, squirt, we saved you from the giant, mean, alligator, didn't we?" Jason piped in, "I'm pretty sure we should get some credit for that. I mean, I sure wouldn't want to be a big bowl of turtle chow."
Raphael's sudden urge to kick and punch grew stronger, but he stuck to turning and sticking his tongue out at the man before turning back to his previous position, trying to keep away from Bruno's tough all the same.
Jason rolled his eyes and Bruno glared. "Yeah! You should be thanking us you little twit! Not acting like we've ran over your cat or somethin!"
Raphael's stomach suddenly growled. Raph's eyes widened and he quickly grabbed his plastron and glared at it, daring his stomach to growl again. He felt the tears sting his eyes again when the two men burst out laughing.
"You hungry?" Bruno snorted. Raph sat stiff and didn't respond making Bruno shake his head. "No? Fine, we'll get lunch and you can watch."
Raphael quickly turned around, his eyes wide, "No!" He cried. He sucked in a quick breath and looked down shamefully.
"No?" Bruno teased. "So you are hungry?"
Raph was hesitant, but he slowly nodded, gripping his stomach tighter.
"Hmmm, what do you want then? French fries?" Bruno guessed, receiving a quick nod from Raphael. "A shake," He continued, getting another nod.
"Hey, I say we just go to an all you can eat buffet!" Jason piped in. Raphael nodded furiously, and laughter broke out once again in the car.
Raph cringed as his stomach growled again. He was so hungry he was starting too woozy.
"Man! You must be hungry!" Jason stated, "Did that Bishop guy ever even feed you?" He asked.
"N-no." Raph stammered, not looking at anyone, as if his hunger was a crime.
Bruno's eye brows furrowed. "What did he do to ya kid?" He asked.
Raph breaths quickened as panic set in. "I w-want my daddy," he whimpered, turning and hiding his face into Bruno's t-shirt. He hiccupped as he tried to hold back his sobs. "I want my-y brothers! And Leatherhead!" He whispered louder this time.
Bruno's eyes widened and him and Jason gave each other those 'Whoops' looks. Raphael had met the brothers that they had just shot at…. Whoops.
Raphael gave out another soft sob, earning him the attention again, "Ok," Bruno sighed out as he watched them stop at a red light. He looked around, eyeing a sign for McDonalds on a large flashing screen. "Here's what we'll do. We got eat, then we find your bros." Bruno declared.
Jason didn't need any more hits as he drove past the light and took the exit off of the freeway and away from most of the traffic.
Raph sniffed, "Do they still want me?"
Bruno blinked. "Who?"
Raphael gulped, "My b-brothers." He said more forcibly.
Bruno's eyes widened. "Oh! Yeah of course! Of course they'll still want ya!"
"B-But y-you said that they wouldn't w-want me anym-more!" Raph hiccupped as he forced his sobs back down his throat.
Bruno hissed through his teeth. "I-I did?" He cringed; glancing at Jason who began to nervously play with the windshield wipers. "Well… I was, ya know, just kiddin." He stated and patted Raph's shoulder, making the turtle stiffen.
"Kidding?" He asked, his voice sounding edgy.
"Yeah! Just joking."
Raph slumped back. He blinked. "Oh." He sat there for a moment, not noticing the silence. His face contorted into a glare. "You're just like Mikey." He grumbled.
"Hm?" Bruno blinked. "How?"
"You're not funny."
