"Hey April, stop worrying! It's nearly a flesh wound!" Mikey teased as he batted the fussing teen's hands away.
April glared at him, placing her hands on her hips. "A flesh wound?" She repeated with irritation, not realizing Mikey was just trying to lighten the mood, "This," She gestured towards his shoulder, "Michelangelo, is not just a flash wound! This is a freaking bullet wound! Something people die from!" She snapped making the orange-banded turtle wince.
Donatello shook his head, a small smile forming on his lips as he carefully wrapped his brother's wounded shoulder. As soon as he and Mikey had stumbled into the lair, April had gone ballistic. She had gasped at their injuries and then rushed them to the couch. Donatello had protested; explaining that he was fine and that he needed to get some stuff to help Michelangelo.
But of course, being the stubborn women she was, April had won. Forcing both turtles to sit and stay as she rushed around and gathered medical supplies.
She had allowed Donnie to handle the dirty work of cleaning and sewing up Mikey's shoulder while she ran off for food, blankets, and pain killers.
"I'm going to go make some tea, I'll be back in a minute." She gave them a warning look before disappearing into the kitchen.
Mikey groaned and leaned his head back, gladly taking his arm back when Donatello finished wrapping the gauze around it. "What's with her?" He asked, earing Donnie's attention, "She's being way over protective right now." He grumbled as he painfully rotated his arm, ignoring the glare from Donnie.
Donatello sighed and tossed the blanket that April had stubbornly wrapped around him onto the floor. "She's just... really worried." He sighed, "They kidnapped Raph while he was with her," He looked towards the kitchen, "She keeps blaming herself… I can tell…" He looked back at Michelangelo. "She probably just doesn't want anything bad to happen to us too while she's here."
"Well, I guess I get that part," Mikey agreed, "But she's almost as bad as Leo with her mother hen act." He grumbled as he pushed away his blanket to.
Master Splinter chuckled slightly as he entered the room, overhearing his two son's conversation and earing both of their gazes. He sat down next to the purple-clad turtle, "April is doing her best to keep you two well."
Mikey sighed, leaning his head back as he blankly stared at the ceiling, looking as if he would fall asleep.
Splinter lowered his voice, "Donatello, are you injured as well?"
Donnie shook his head, "I'm just a bit sore, that' all."
"And why is that?" Splinter asked with a raised eyebrow. His sons were trained ninja, who would go through katas for hours without getting sore.
Donnie hesitated. He didn't want to rat out the giant alligator and possible make his father angry at his friend. What he did want to do, however, was tattle on the man who had pulled the trigger on his baby brother. "It was an accident, that's all." He said, "But you should be worried about Mikey and the stupid guy who-"
Splinter rested a paw onto Donatello's shoulder. "I am aware of what happened to Michelangelo, I am concerned for you right now, Donatello."
Donnie bit his lip. He was saved from answering when April came back into the room carrying a tray of tea.
"Don't worry, Splinter, I thought of you to." She said as she handed him a tea cup. Splinter smiled and gladly took the offered cup.
She handed Donnie a cup of tea, "You two doing ok?" She asked; placing Mikey's tea on the coffee table when he only mumbled in response and closed his eyes. Donnie only nodded.
She eyed them before plopping herself down onto Splinter's recliner. April rubbed her eyes with the balls of her hands before staring glumly into her tea cup, turning it around in her hand.
"What's troubling you, April?" Splinter inquired as he sipped his drink.
April sighed, "It's all my fault." She mumbled. "It's my fault that Raph is alone and in danger."
Mikey opened his eyes slightly, turning his eyes towards Donnie. Donatello shrugged and gave Mikey his 'I-told-you-so' look.
Splinter hummed, "Did you mean for any of this to happen?" He asked, raising his eyebrows and looking at April through the corner of his eye.
April immediately sat up, barley not spilling any tea. "N-No! Of course not!" She stuttered.
"Then tell me, April, how is any of this your fault?"
April blinked, "I… I should have protected him, Master Splinter! I should have kept a better watch one him! I shouldn't have let him outside! I should… I should of… I should of made him eat the rest of his pizza!" Her breaths were quick now and she seemed ready to cry.
Splinter shook his head. "I am his father, April, shouldn't I have been the one to watch him? Keep him safe in the lair? Make him finish his dinner?" Splinter rose an eyebrow. "Do you blame me also for Raphael's disappearance?"
April blinked before violently shaking her head, "Of course I don't blame you! It wasn't your fault he snuck off!"
"And it is not yours that those men had decided to kidnap my son. We both have a doing of what happened, yet it is neither of our fault." Splinter stated. He stood up, declaring that he had won in the conversation, "Now, it is late and all of you need to rest." He looked down at his two boys. Mikey's head threatened to fall over onto Donatello's shoulder as he laid in the middle of being conscious and unconscious, while Donnie sighed and looked up at his father with somewhat tired eyes.
"Master Splinter, you know I won't be able to sleep," He looked over at Mikey as his head finally collapsed onto Don's shoulder. Everyone smiled at the sight but Donnie quickly turned back to his father with large eyes. "Not with everything that's happened, I need to know that Raph's ok!" He sighed and blinked tiredly. "But I can't leave Mikey."
"You will stay here and rest." Splinter gave his son a stern look as he was about to protest. "Michelangelo will be fine, I know he will, same goes for Raphael. Keep your faith for you brothers and in our friends."
April smiled.
Donatello nodded, "I know," He did trust everyone, he just hated sitting around and being useless. He looked back at his sleeping brother, drool threatening to start flowing.
Splinter smiled. "Good Night, my sons." He turned to April and nodded. She gave a warm smile back before Splinter turned and left the room.
April stood soon after, wished Donatello a good night, and then headed to the guest room which she had claimed whenever she would spend the night.
Donnie stared at the darkness that surrounded him after April had turned off the lights. He sighed and pulled out his T-phone, the light illuminating that dark as he flipped it open.
It rang for a couple of seconds before a voice answered. "Hello?"
"Find anything?"
"We're on a trail… sort of," Leo sighed, "How's Mikey doing? Are you two ok?"
"Mikey's fine, he's sleeping now, and you already know I'm ok,"
"Tell that to the wall you left a hole in!" Donnie chuckled along with his brother for a moment before the conversation was thrust into a silence.
Donnie gulped, "Hey Leo…"
"Yeah?"
"You'll bring him home, right?"
"No matter what the costs," Leo promised, "I'm bringing Raphael home."
