Chapter twenty two

ASHLYNN'S POV

I sat in my car watching my phone as the minutes ticked away. The anger started to bubble up in my chest I pushed it back trying to think of an excuse for Carlos. Probably just stuck traffic. We spent a wonderful day at the beach yesterday. We swam most of the day, laughing and enjoying ourselves. That's what today was supposed to be also. We were supposed to be going out on a date today. He said he would meet me here, because he had to do something first. My phone rang pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Carlos where are you?" I demanded answering the phone.

"You need to work on your people skills." the voice said in response.

"Jessica." I hissed out between clenched teeth.

"How do you like Maero's new tattoo?" I asked sarcasm staining my words.

"I think it's sexy" she replied, I could hear the grin in her voice.

"I decided to return the favor, of course I don't have the same materials you did but I'm sure I can make do." She continued.

"If you touch Carlos I'll-" I growled out, panic wrapping tightly around me.

"Oh I'm sure you will do something really scary." she said cutting me off. "Just remember when you're scarping your boyfriends face off the pavement; we offered you twenty percent." She continued before hanging up.

The panic seared through me as I pulled my gun out from under the seat trying to think of what I could do. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Donny would know. I started my car heading for Donny's workshop.

I turned into my brother as I ignored all of the traffic signs. Stillwater blurred by me as I sped down the road squealing to a stop at Donny's workshop. I left the car running as I grabbed my gun and hopped out of the car and made my way inside.

I yanked the door open letting it bang back against the wall the banging sound echoing through the shop.

"where is Carlos?!" I screamed as Donny came into sight.

"I'm not telling you anything!" He yelled back terror filling his eyes at the sight of my gun.

I couldn't kill him that would ruin what little hope I had left of finding Carlos. I grabbed the closest thing to me; a chair and brought it down with as much force as I could muster slamming into the head and watching in grim satisfaction as he fell to the floor whimpering.

"WHERE IS CARLOS?!" I screamed again.

"I don't know" he replied. His eyes gave away that he was lying. I don't have time for this.

Narrowing my eyes I bent down next to him and pressed my gun to his head.

"Where is Carlos?" I asked again in a whisper, I clicked the safety off as he started to shake his head.

"At the docks, he's at the docks." he said giving in, valuing his life over the brotherhood.

"Thanks." I said anger seeping into my voice as I gave him a final kick before turning on my heels and running back to my car.

I hopped back into my car ignoring the seat belt and racing to the docks. I spotted a brotherhood truck and the sight before me made my blood run cold.

Carlos being dragged behind the truck. A scream of agony escaped my lips at the sight. I had to slow the truck down and make it stop. I raised my gun with a shaking hand keeping the car steady with my other hand. I aimed the gun and left off a shot. It hit the back window, the window shattered on impact and the driver sped up. I cursed under my breath as the tears started to fall. I took a deep breath and aimed again this time hitting the driver. The truck swerved and my heart jumped into my throat; I watched in agony for the few moments it took the truck to come to a stop.

I hopped out of my car and ran to Carlos turning him over. His scream ripped through me. He was a mess. His face was covered in road rash as well as most off his body blood was spilling out and pooling on the ground. He was struggling to breathe. I bit back the scream that was growing in my chest and ran to the back of the truck hoping in vain that I could get the chain off.

My efforts caused him more pain as he cried out. I gave up on the chain and instead tried to get him free. I grabbed him under the arms and tried to pull him off the chain. He cried out in pain and I lowered him to the ground in defeat. I sat down on my knees next to him.

"I'll get you help." I chocked out through my tears. His voice came out broken and dry.

"Kill me please" he begged in a whisper for me to put him out of his misery. I shook my head I couldn't do that.

"I love you." He whispered struggling to pull his cross off and place it around my neck.

"Please." he begged again. He offered me his hand. I took his hand and put the gun between his eyes not wanting to hurt him and make him suffer.

"I love you too." I whispered through my tears and pulled the trigger.

The bang echoed through the silence broken only by the roar of thunder.

I pulled myself close to him letting the tears fall as the rain started. His blood soaked my shirt as I held onto him letting my tears mix with the blood and the rain. I opened my phone and blindly searched for the speed dial. My brother answered the phone.

"Roland.. Help." I whimpered barely hearing myself of the thunder and the rain.

I let the phone fall out of hand as I buried my face into Carlos and continued to cry. The sounds of sirens pierced the air. Their too late their always too late. I thought to myself as the welcomed darkness clouded my vision.
