Ch 7

Rafiki smiled gently as the lionesses of Pride Rock formed lines on the rocky ramp that led to the grassy lands. Simba and Nala followed stopping at the end, awaiting their daughter. Sarabi and Hakika were last to follow as they took their places on either side of the King.

"Kiara." Rafiki said kindly, as the golden furred princess began down the stone ramp. As she passed the others she received compliments which she politely ignored. Her mind focused on her goal, it was now her time to prove that she could be useful.

"You'll be wonderful." Nala said gently nuzzling her daughter

"Do you promise to let me do this on my own, Daddy?" Kiara asked her voice strained with pleading

Simba sighed, as Nala raised an eyebrow at his late response, finally he nodded his head with a sad smile. His little girl was almost grown up and he wanted her to remain young forever.

"Thank you Daddy." Kiara squealed before skipping past her parents with determination in her eyes. Standing proudly she looked across the land that she would someday reign. With a quick look back at the pride, Kiara darted away.

Simba let out another sigh, as he watched his daughter become nothing more than a speck on the land.

"She'll be fine." Nala said as she and the other lionesses departed, heading to the top rocks to sun themselves while they could.

Simba, turned when he heard a yawn, Hakika sat beside him blinking sleepily. She had been so quiet he forgot she was there. He chuckled at her exhausted expression as she yawned again.

"Tired?" he asked with amusement

Hakika glared lazily at her older brother "I don't understand how you manage to sleep comfortably on rocks." She complained

"You slept on the ground for many moons and you're complaining about the den."

"The ground has soft grass, to sleep on." She snapped before yawning again.

"Why, don't you take a nap before the feast." Sarabi said, for fear that with another argument between her cubs would cause trouble.

Hakika, sleepily nodded remembering when she was living at the baobab tree she took many naps during the day. Sarabi smiled as she began led her youngest back up the ramp.

"You're still just a cub." Simba teased, Hakika stuck her tongue at her brother for his remark which caused him to chuckle louder.

Once the two lionesses were out of earshot, he looked around to make sure no one else was watching him. Before he quickly and quietly called over Timon and Pumbaa. The merkat and warthog were quick to answer his call.

"Keep an, eye on Kiara for me." Simba whispered to the two before heading up to where the rest of the pride rested. Timon, and Pumbaa smiled at their friend before sneaking away to follow the youngest member of the royal family.
