Tatanga eyed the sleeping brunette, a look of disapproval on his face. The princess had improved cosmetically in his opinion, but he could tell just by the way she slept, dressed, and carried herself now that she had traded her bratty kind of tomboyish personality for a full out tomboyish one, and with his plans for her that just wasn't going to work. Luckily he had planned for this, once he got everything he wanted and deserved Princess Daisy would stand beside him as new woman.
"Awake." He commanded, his voice naturally booming through the room. Daisy jumped up instantly, and began looking around her unfamiliar surroundings until she laid eyes on him. Unfortunately for her this time, he saw her too. "We're meeting with someone soon," He said turning away. "So get ready quickly."
"Wait! Where am I?" She mumbled the last part of question since Tatanga had already left her room. She didn't see the point in trying to keep her one step behind if that's what he was trying to do, she had no choice but to go along with his stupid plan no matter how much she wanted to resist.
A meeting? With who? She thought. Thinking back to what she was told in her dream, was this one of those times where he needed her to act as his queen would? She shrugged, and went off to do as he wished.
"Princess!" A maid knocked on the door, interrupting her as she struggled to put on her new red heels. "Tatanga needs you right now."
"Wait a minute!" She yelled, though she was pretty much ready to come out. The outfit that she was now in resembled the one that her 'future' self was wearing in her dream. It was uncomfortable, but what really made her not want to come out was she began to realize this was the beginning. The beginning of her being completely under the control and watchful eye of Tatanga. Her life as she knew it seemed to be over. She really didn't want to be as saddened as her future self seemed to be, but what exactly could she do to change her fate?
The door knob wiggled, and in came the maid. "I'm sorry princess, but Tatanga really needs you at the moment."
"I-" She didn't even get a word out the maid grabbed her, and practically pulled her out of the door. The maids in her castle were never this aggressive when someone wanted to see her. Did Tatanga say something to shake her up like this? She didn't doubt it.
"What does he need me for?" She asked, trying to slip her hand through the koopas scaly hands, but no luck.
"You and him are meeting with his nastiness." She replied quickly.
His nastiness? She repeated in her head. That title seemed vaguely familiar to her, but she couldn't exactly remember where she had heard it. Her thought process was abruptly interrupted when she was practically thrown into a room by the maid that was escorting her. She started to yell, but luckily she noticed Tatanga sitting in the room and quickly closed her mouth.
"I'm glad you finally found the time to join me, princess." Tatanga said, though as calm as he said it, Daisy knew didn't mean it.
"Well I wasn't really given a specific time so-"
He held up his hand to stop her, "What ever excuses you use on King Richard will not work on me. If I request for you to be somewhere I expect you to get there in a timely manner." He said, and even though he didn't raise his voice, he could tell his tone struck the tiniest bit of fear in Daisy's heart. The way he saw it as her fear of him grew, so would her obedience. "You should be glad King Bowser himself is running late, or you'd regret disregarding my wishes. Take your seat." The alien pointed to the seat beside him, waiting for the princess to do as she was told.
King Bowser? What was Tatanga doing meeting with Bowser? It all seemed to make sense though, the unfamiliar castle, the Koopa maids, and the title His nastiness, they were staying at Bowser's castle. And whatever him and Bowser were planning , couldn't be good. She would have frowned, but she didn't exactly know what he meant by 'making her regret disregarding his wishes' and she didn't want to find out. Taking the seat next to him, she sat quietly while they both awaited Bowser's arrival.
Hearing the Koopa King's loud voice, the flower princess knew he was close. "Sit up straight, and only speak when spoken to." Tatanga had said, just in time before the Koopa King had entered the room. Taking a seat in front of them, Bowser eyed Daisy, but her eyes willed him to stay quiet. She was already stuck with Tatanga the last thing she needed was Bowser patronizing her.
Clearing his throat Tatanga spoke up, "This is my partner the Princess of Sarasaland, Daisy, and she is honored to be here in the presence of such a great king such as yourself, isn't that right, Daisy?"
He doesn't know... We know each other? This seemed like this was a situation she could take advantage of. That is if Bowser was willing to play along. "A-ah, Yes. Its a pleasure to meet you, King Bowser." She said, her eyes still willing him to stay quiet.
"She's just here to listen, but feel free to ask anything of her if you need to."
Bowser chuckled a little. He had never seen Daisy this quiet, or dressed this nicely either. She looked absolutely miserable and he felt like making her squirm a little more. "Well, Daisy, I'm sure I don't have to tell you how generous Lord Tatanga her is, right?"
Daisy's eyes bugged, she wasn't exactly sure where Bowser was going with this, but she didn't like it. She looked briefly over at the space man before answering, "I suppose you don't have to tell me, I am already aware." If you call generous taking someone's life from them, then he's pretty generous. Is what she had wanted to say, but the answer she gave would do.
"He's sooo generous that he's actually brought me The Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom as a gift, you know her right? Don't you agree she's absolutely wonderful?"
Daisy clenched her fists, when she said getting her friend to safety she didn't mean handing her over to her kidnapper even though she knew Bowser wouldn't lay a hand on her, She needed time to recover from what she had been through. "Yes, I know her..." She said her voice shaking a little before turning to Tatanga, "And I was told she would be brought to safety." Her anger had gotten the best of her.
Idiot, was Tatanga's only thought as Bowser revealed Princess Peach's location to her. Not that he cared Daisy found out she was lied to, but it did make things with her a little more difficult. "Compose yourself, Daisy, we'll talk about this later." He said, not even looking her way. Which meant he'd have to teach her later, that her outbursts toward him weren't exactly accepted in public. "Now Bowser, I think the Princess has had her fill of questions, how about we move on to more important matters?"
Before Bowser could even answer, the door was opened and one of the Koopa's who worked in the castle came in. "I-I'm sorry to interrupt your meeting King Bowser and Lord Tatanga, but we have word from Tatanga's hide out that King Richard's men have found it and are trying to break in and search f-for princess Daisy."
Daisy turned her back to look at the koopa then looked up at Tatanga for his reaction. He seemed to be only amused by the information, which is unfortunately what she expected. Even if her father's men found her there, they wouldn't be able to bring her home. Her place was with Tatanga until a loophole could be found, or unless he decided to let her go, the latter didn't seem like an option though.
"I see. I guess I'll have to let them and their king know their princess isn't coming home." He smiled down at Daisy before standing up and starting to head out. "I have to go take care of this, Daisy, but don't worry I won't harm them too much if they cooperate." He gave her a wicked smile, and she instantly looked away. "And King Bowser I hate ask this of you, but please make sure she doesn't get herself into trouble." Walking out behind the koopa who delivered the information, he shut the door behind him.
Turning around she frowned at Bowser, who had a big toothy grin on his face. She smacked him before saying "What was all that about?"
Needless to say the grin he had was gone, "Sorry Daisy, but I just couldn't resist! What's with the new get up anyway?"
She scoffed and started to leave, but he took hold of her shoulder. "Uh uh uh. Not so fast, Tatanga asked me to look after you and you're not going anywhere."
She pushed his hand off her shoulder. "Oh cut the crap, Bowser. You and I both know you don't want to watch me all day. Unless you're actually afraid of Tatanga..."
He ignored her last statement. "I'm serious, Daisy, besides I'm curious about why decided to join the dark side. Did the two plumb scums finally get under your skin?" He laughed. "I knew if any of you goody two shoes would see it my way it would be you. Though joining Tatanga is a little extreme for you, don't you think? Evil seems to run through that guy's veins. None of my servants seem to want to go near him!"
She rolled her eyes ignoring his comment about the two plumbers. She didn't exactly hate Bowser the way everyone else did, but she wouldn't ever be apart of one of his schemes willingly, and the fact that he thought she would made her smile a little. "I don't exactly have a choice, Bowser. I had to get Peach out of there, and she owed her life to him."
"That's the reason she's upset, huh?"
"That, and I'm sure he wasn't exactly kind to her... He doesn't take to kindly to you if you show any kind of weakness."
"Did he hurt my Peachy? If he did I ought to-"
Daisy almost wanted to laugh at Bowser's protective nature over Peach, but she kept it to herself. "Not physically, Bowser."
"Still, he told me when he had her that she was safe with him, and he didn't mention any of this life owing stuff. Why did she owe her life to him?"
"All I know is that he saved her, I'm hoping to get more information out of him, so I can possibly get myself back home."
"Why does he want you anyway? Seems like anybody could be his partner in whatever he's got cooked up."
"He's kidnapped me once before and took control of my kingdom..." She said that part quietly, a little embarrassed to be admitting it to Bowser. "I think he wants to control it again, and marry me..."
"Looks like strong, independent Daisy can be kidnapped too Gwa hah! You should be glad someone besides green 'stache wants to marry you."
"Shut it, Bowser. This is serious Tatanga's dangerous, you should be trying to get rid of him too. He's only using you and your resources to get whatever it is he wants, I'm sure of it."
"Is Daisy worried about me?" He grinned and she sighed, could he be serious about anything? "I can handle this, Tatanga is powerless to do anything without my army, who only takes orders from me. Whatever few men he has would not stand a chance against them if he was planning a takeover."
"Whatever, don't say I didn't warn you. Anyway would you mind letting me see Peach for awhile? I think she'd feel better after I talk to her."
"I guess you could get better results than me or my maids, but what if Tatanga comes looking for you? I don't want him anywhere near Peachy now that I know what's been going on."
"We'll have to take the chance, Bowser. I have to see her."
"Alright..." She watched as Bowser stood up, and she followed him out of the room.
Bowser opened a door to a very pink room, and Daisy couldn't help but smile a little. If she had to bet, this room probably wasn't like this before Bowser took interest in the mushroom princess. It seemed like he tried so hard to make Peach feel home here but it never seemed to work. She stepped in the room and waved good bye to Bowser, he gave her a confused look and she shut the door in his face to get her point across. She heard him grumble, and then loud footsteps until they gradually got quieter.
Looking around, she saw no sign of her friend. "Peach, do you feel like coming out? It's me, Daisy." At first there was no response, but after a couple of seconds her friend emerged from the bathroom in a robe. She couldn't really tell if she had been crying, her face was completely wet, probably from a shower.
"Daisy? Why-How-"
She interrupted her by stepping in for a hug. "Bowser and Tatanga are sort of working together, but we can talk about it later." She let go of her before continuing, "How are you feeling?"
"Daisy your whole life is practically gone because of me, and you still ask how I'm doing..."
"Peach I wish you wouldn't blame yourself for all of this, I want you to know even if you had said something I wouldn't have changed my answer. You would have suffered even more than I'm going to." Which was the truth, Daisy could tell by the way he spoke of Peach he didn't like her very much.
"No matter how you put it, Daisy, this is still my fault. I should have done something to try and help you... "
Daisy started to argue that it was Tatanga's fault that all this happened, but she decided to try a different approach at getting Peach in a better mood. "If it makes you feel better there's a way you can help me now."
Peach's eyes shot up, whatever Daisy wanted, she'd do. It actually would make her feel a little better to know she could actually help her friend out of this since she couldn't shake the feeling that Daisy at least resented her a little bit because of the predicament she had gotten them in. "I'll do whatever you need, Daisy! Please just ask."
Daisy grinned at her friends enthusiasm, and at the fact that her request had made her feel at least a little better. "Can you act as a messenger for me? I want my father to know how I'm doing and that I'm okay, and that he shouldn't come looking for me until he finds a loophole."
"Of course I will, dear. I was going to make a statement about all this anyway considering I had a big part in it... After Mario saves me I'll probably be back here pretty soon, so just come here anytime you need me to deliver a message."
"Thanks, I knew I could count on you. I think my father will have gotten the news before you even get back, though. They've already come looking for me at Tatanga's lair, and he went to take care of it. Just be sure to let him know I'm safe for now."
"Anything else?"
"Can you tell me what exactly Tatanga saved you from?" She asked, she could probably get it out of Peach easier than she could get it out of Tatanga.
Her expression instantly darkened. "I-I'd rather not re-live it at the moment, Daisy. B-but it was probably the most dangerous situation I-I've ever been in... I'm sorry I just can't talk about right now."
Even though she was not even more curious, Daisy gave a silent nod. That was all she needed to hear to develop her first idea on how she was to escape. Dangerous sounded right up Tatanga's alley. Him setting this up wasn't a possibility she had thought of before, probably because she felt her situation was hopeless, but she definitely wasn't going to rule it out now. She'd try to get some evidence when Tatanga got back.
Peach's face lit up again. "Oh there's another thing I can do for you!" She smiled. "I'll ask Bowser to make absolute sure you're safe as long as you're here." She knew him and the flower princess seemed to have some sort of rivalry going on and he'd be a little hard to convince at first, but eventually get through. Whatever made her happy, he could deal with.
"Ugh, Peach, I'll be fine..."
Her eyes pleaded for Daisy to agree. "Please let me help you Daisy, I'd feel a lot better that way."
Daisy didn't like the idea, but didn't argue. She didn't want Peach to waste anymore tears or guilt on this. Peach came in for another hug, and Daisy accepted.
Pulling out of the hug Peach looked down and up. She didn't seem to notice before, but it looked like Daisy had switched from her normal dress to a much more simple, and proper look. "By the way, you look wonderful, Daisy! I don't suppose you did this by choice, though, did you?" Daisy shook her head, a little disgusted that Peach would find anything she knew Tatanga picked out wonderful. "I'm going to go get dressed, but I'll be back in a few moments. Feel free to take a seat on the bed while you wait."
"Do you mind helping me with my zipper, dear?" Peach said finally coming out of the bathroom. Getting up Daisy went over to help the princess. It seemed a little stuck, but with a strong pull she was able to get it almost all the way up.
She was about to pull again when she heard rattling coming from the door. "It's not locked come right in!" She said, before pulling it all the way up.
"Thank you, D-" She wanted to finish, but the door swung open to reveal Tatanga himself. Peach grabbed hold of Daisy's arm and put a stern look on her face. "If you're here for Daisy, please excuse us, but we aren't quite finished yet." She noticed out of the corner of her eye that Daisy gave her a look like, 'What are you doing' but she didn't look back. She still didn't feel comfortable leaving her friend with him, and she was going to buy her as much time away from him as she could.
"It looks to me like you two are just about done here, and I'm sure princess Daisy agrees." He seemed annoyed rather than amused like he usually would be by a comment like this.
"I-I'm sorry Peach, but I have to go." She pulled her into one last hug, using it to whisper that she should remember to not worry, and she'd try to come back later.
Once she was close enough Tatanga grabbed her, and escorted her out of the room.
"I expected you to stay with King Bowser, not seek her out."
"He's the one who brought me-" Suddenly, as if out of no where, she was shoved into a wall, and met with the angry face of Tatanga.
"You must think I'm going to take pity on you, princess? This was your choice and you will not disobey me because you think your excuse is good enough."
Her breathing heavied and her eyes showed true terror. "I don't know what I was thinking, I'm sorry." Though she wasn't the least bit sincere.
Noticing her fear he laughed. "I would accept your apology but you have not only disobeyed me, but you also mouthed off at me in front of Bowser, I think a small punishment is in order..." He took a moment to think, and then continued, "Yes, I think I'll play a little mind game with you."
She had forgotten all about his hypnotic powers, and she didn't really want to find out what more he had learned after all these years. "Why haven't you just hypnotized me to obey you? Then you wouldn't have to punish me..."
"As much as I'd like to at times, it would benefit me more if you learned to obey me of your own free will." He took hold of her face and positioned her eyes so that the would look directly in his. "Your eyes are now locked with mine." He said, and let go of her head. As he expected, she couldn't look away. "Your good conscious will now take a back seat, as thoughts like mine begin to corrupt your mind. You will watch yourself become more and more like me, until I feel like you've actually learned something." He looked away, his mind game had begun.
